I came to command the military of Israel shortly after the election of Sam Krakower as President. Our old commander and Minister of Defense fled the country, leaving our forces unorganized, unfunded, and undisciplined. We had two Alufs and a handful of Serens, one of which was me, active at the time. Neither Aluf, the legitimate next-in-line for Commander of the Israeli Defense Forces, accepted the position. The officers present in cooperation with the new President, decided on me and K0munista.

We repaired the military for about a month before a new set of rules came about. Those, and the resignation of Stationary Division Aluf Beagle Boy prompted a brand-new reorganization of the military.

That prompted a renaissance in our armed forces and let to some of the platoons you are now familiar with – Tavor, Zealots, Samson, and Armageddon.

You may have also noticed around this time that new leaders starting rising through the ranks or falling out of the officer corps. Our military, as it should be, became a meritocracy. No one was promoted or demoted based on who his friends were. Membership in one political party or another was not a qualification to lead a platoon or a division. Every officer serving got where he was by proving his abilities, not by schmoozing.

A military is not like a Congress or the political elite of a country. Through the Krakower, Knight, and von Phalz months, even the junta, stability took hold. Elsewhere in eRepublik you can find national armies that have maintained continuity of operations and functionality for the better part of two years. I never planned to be in this position for two years, but the military should been able to operate for at least that long.

Under our leadership and with the thankless dedication of many officers, the military grew into something respectable. It’s not perfect. It’s not the best in the world. Its leaders are not infallible. Still, it became respectable.

I am not going to say anything negative about anyone in this article. If you were expecting juicy fuel for Israel’s internal drama, please look elsewhere. The military is now an organization of over 100 people, a handful of companies and supplies, and about fourteen officers. It arguably does as much for national retention as the Interior Department – maybe more. Such an organization should have a say in how it operates and manage its own internal affairs. Trying to change aspects of a working system that don’t need it is not leadership.

Balance of Power and the Nation

I’ll tell you the relationship between the military, the President, and Knesset right now. This isn’t a discussion; it is a lecture. This has nothing to do with whether or not this is Israel, the United States, Serbia, or elsewhere; it is common sense:

The President sets foreign policy, which includes the strategic goals of the country’s military and the basics of its deployments. The President is elected each month, and his powers are checked by Knesset.

Knesset controls funding for the President and has the option to impeach a President. Military and mutual protection pact fundings are controlled by Knesset, and Knesset is also elected by the people each month.

The military receives its funding from Knesset and its objectives from the President. A good President decides what a military should do but not how a military should do it. Ordering your military to deploy to and defend Bulgaria is well within a President’s purview, but micromanaging every aspect of it is not. The military has officers who, as I’ve said, got where they are by ability, not politics, and does not want to be dictated to by a politician.

The Clairvoyant

I will not say anything negative about The Clairvoyant. I’m sure he is quite a mature individual with many accomplishments during his eLife. However, I need to clarify some times from an objective standpoint. He has not served as an officer in the Israeli Defense Forces before. Whatever his plans for the military are, they were not communicated to me or anyone in the chain-of-command that I am aware of. It is difficult accept the manner in which his appointment took place and to have his first position in our organization be overall leader. I sincerely think he can probably do the job fine, but why spit on the officers working their way up the chain the traditional way?

K0munista

I do not fully understand K0munista’s political beliefs. Why a Polish Catholic should associate himself with a party that seems to dislike all all-Hebrews is not something I can speak to. That being said, I don’t really discuss politics with him very much. A similar situation involving me and danielmorad – you might say we are on opposite sides of the “political fence.” Has this been a problem before? Maybe personally, but not the slightest bit in the military. All inquiries into breaches of professional conduct during Knesset elections turned up negative, and no troops until either mans’ command has spoken up to me. To summarize, political beliefs are kept separate from military duties. Everyone expects political appointments in Cabinet, but this is not the way things are done in the military.

Me

I fully admit that right now I don’t know what’s going on. I clarified to the new President many times that this is not how things are done. That was met with a deaf ear. The current drama and disarray in the military could be drastically exaggerated if I was feeding it as well. Even after his ill-fated announcement, I offered two possible solutions to the young President.

This morning Beagle asked me what my position in IDF is right now. That’s the thousand-gold question. At this point whether or not I continue to have any responsibilities in the military is not my biggest concern. I’m sure my detractors will paint this as me trying to grasp the last vestiges of power slipping from my grasp. I said my piece about that once before the military when I said, “It would be easy to yield into retirement, but such would implicitly grant pardon to great evil.” If I just left now without another word, I’d be leaving behind a country where the next President could just say, “Ender is the new Rav Aluf. I am the President; just go with it.” I care about this country a bit too much to let that happen.

Expect a systematic attempt at assassinating my character. You will probably hear fabrications about stolen supplies or deleted documents. I just heard some of these today, but in actuality the military roster and supplies are exactly where they were 24 hours ago unmolested. Trust no one trying to manipulate public opinion.

After the conclusion of my second Presidential term I had plenty of energy to bring some exciting new plans to realization for the military. We were working on a system to loan soldiers gold to use larger training boosters, a consolidated system of decorations, and exercises with our new Luna allies. Right now, honestly, my motivation is being severely drained by this internal strife. With how few people this country has willing to do this much work, do we really need to go out of our way to make people even less motivated?

A Couple Solutions

What I’ve proposed in private I might as well make public.

A President in eRepublik has historically been able to appoint whomever he wants as a Minister without Knesset approval. A Minister of Defense is what you’re looking for – a Presidential appointment who has the authority to discuss (keyword there) with the military leadership about implementation of new policies.



The next, more long-term solution, is a constitution. Israel is not really a country without one – it is a roving band of gangs and egos. We should have something objective to fall back on governing these kinds of disputes. It should lay out the role of the President, Knesset, ministers, and the military (as a governmental institution). Other state-sponsored things like forum administration and Order of Israel would fall under constitutional purview as well.

Bulgaria

Israeli forces deployed to Bulgaria two days ago, and now our station in Burgas has been overrun by Serbian forces. I was going to write an article yesterday or the day before about the deployment, as a new deployment is usually cause for an article, but the President wanted to write the article, so I yielded that. Instead he published his new appointment.

Bulgaria, after a string of other EDEN nations, has suffered a full-scale invasion that reminds me of the opening scene of Red Alert 2.





I don’t think our present state of disorganization and confusion had anything to do with Bulgaria’s defeat, but right now we are in a less-than-ideal situation. If I am still in command, my next step would be to contact my EDEN or Bulgarian counterparts and either redeploy in preparation for resistance wars or fall back to another EDEN-controlled territory. Now we have the President, two newly-appointed Rav Alufs, and me potentially giving orders.

I think we probably could have picked a better time for this…

Saudi Arabian Liberation

The rest of this article will be less depressing. My last acts as President of Israel included asking Knesset to natural enemy Saudi Arabia after they came back into existence with Eastern Province (given up by Greece to end their war with United Arab Emirates) and attack. The battle was hard-fought, but Israel’s forces started to wear down sooner than Serbia’s. Many thanks to our allies in Greece and Romania and deployed forces from Philippines, the region came into Israel’s hands during the six-hour post-election vote-check. That wiped the election, which is partially unfortunate because it was funny seeing Spanish and FYROMian candidates on the ballot in Saudi Arabia for some reason, but it did successfully deny the Saudi dictator another Country President medal.



Follow that up with a successful impeachment proposal and currently Saudi Arabia may be without a President. I hope this means the political grip on Saudi Arabia will be gone when it reappears on the map, but that is far from certain.

Media Mogul Campaign

Ladies, look at your newspaper. Now look at mine. Now back at yours. Is your newspaper like mine? No. But it can become like mine!



I’ve been contacted by the Greek Press Ministry about participating in their media mogul program. Smaller countries have difficulty generating their own media moguls because there are fewer potential readers and subscribers, and now we cannot publish in other nations. Greece has this program to help newspapers approaching the 1000 subscribers mark, and Israelis can participate!

Visit this article (which is only in Greek) to see the current list of newspapers. Subscribe to those and, if you are close to a media mogul yourself and need some help, write to their org to be included. Make sure you subscribe to the newspaper because they publish every other day or so.

In Conclusion

There’s no reason we can’t solve our problems together. We should work on building a respectable nation that men are proud to serve – one that honors its many contributors. I will be here still fighting for you on the battlefield and in public discourse with honorable conduct.

תיקנו את הצבא במשך חודש בדיוק כאשר יצאו חוקים חדשים.אלה בנוסף להתפטרותו של מפקד הדיויזיה הנייחת האלוף בייגל בוי הביאו לתהליך ארגון מחדש של הצבא.

אני מאמין שגם שמתם לב לכך שבזמן זה התחילו לצמוח מנהיגים חדשים מן השורות או כאלה שנשרו ממערך הקצינים. הצבא שלנו, הפך למריטוקרטיה(שלטון בו אנשים נבחרים לפי כישוריהם ולא יחוסם
אף אחד לא קודם או הודח בהתבססות על קשריו ומי היו חבריו בזמן זה. חברות במפלגה אחת מסויימת או אחרת לא היוותה שום קריטריון להוביל פלוגה או חטיבה. כל קצין הגיע לאן שהגיע בהתבסס על יכולותיו ולא יכולת ההתחנפות שלו.

הנשיא קובע את מדיניות החוץ אשר כוללת את היעדים האסטרטגים של המדינה ואת הבסיס המבצעי שלה. הנשיא נבחר כל חודש ופעולותיו וכוחו נבדקים על ידי הכנסת.

הכנסת מנהלת את המימון לנשיא ויש באפשרותה להדיח את הנשיא. צבא ומימון בריתות הגנה נשלטים על ידי הכנסת,והכנסת גם נבחרת בכל חודש על ידי העם.

הצבא מקבל את המימון מהכנסת ואת מטרותיו מהנשיא. נשיא טוב קובע מה הצבא צריך לעשות אך לא איך הוא יעשה את זה. לתת פקודה להיערך בבולגריה זוהי הסמכות של הנשיא,אך ניהול כל צד של המבצע הוא לא. לצבא יש קצינים שכפי שהזכרתי לפני,הגיעו לאן שהגיעו בעזרת כישוריהם,לא פוליטיקה והם לא רוצים שפוליטקאי יכתיב להם מה לעשות

אחרי סיום הכהונה השניה שלי כנשיא היה לי מספיק מרץ כדי להביא רעיונות מלהבים חדשים ליישום בצבא. עבדנו על תוכנית להלוות לחיילים זהב כדי להשתמש בבוסטרים טובים יותר,מערכת עיטור מסודרת, ואימונים משותפים עם הברית החדשה שלנו לונה. כרגע,בכנות,המוטיבציה שלי הושפעה לרעה מהמתחים הפנימיים. אם כמות האנשים במדינה שבאמת רוצים לעשות עבודה,האם אנחנו צריכים לגרום לאנשים להיות עוד יותר פחות בעלי מוטיבציה?

מספר פתרונות

אלו הם פתרונות אשר הצעתי באופן פרטי ועכשיו אשתף אותם בציבור.

נשיא באירפליק באופן היסטורי יכל למנות שר ללא אישור הכנסת. שר הביטחון הוא האדם שאנחנו מחפשים – מינוי נשיאוטי ובעל המסכות לדבר עם הנהגת הצבא לגבי
הנהגת עמדות חדשות.



הרעיון הבא שיותר קשור לטווח הארוך הוא חוקה. ישראל היא לא באמת מדינה בלי חוקה היא פשוט חבורה של כנופייות ואגואים. אנחנו צריכים משהו אובייקטיבי כדי להשתלט על מריבות מסוג זה. החוקה צריכה לתאר את תפקיד הנשיא,הכנסת,השרים והצבא(כארגון ממשלתי) ודברים אחרים אשר ממומנים על ידי המדינה כמו ניהול הפורום והמסדר של ישראל צריכים ליפול גם תחת מה שיתואר בחוקה.

בולגריה


כוחות ישראליים הוצבו בבולגריה לפני יומיים,ועכשיו המחנה שלנו בורגס נכבש על ידי כוחות סרביים. התכוונתי לכתוב מאמר יום לפני או ביום התזוזה כי בדרך כלל מבצע מסוג זה הוא עילה מספיק טובה למאמר,אך הנשיא החליט שהוא רוצה לכתוב את המאמר,אז העברתי לו את המאמר. אך במקום זאת הוא החליט לפרסם את המינוי החדש שלו.

שחרור ערב הסעודית

החלק הבא של המאמר יהיה פחות מדכא. הפעולות האחרונות שלי כנשיא המדינה היו להכריז על ערב הסעודית כאויב טבעי לאחר שהם חזרו להתקיים עם הפרובינציה המזרחית אשר ניתנה להם על ידי יוון כדי לסיים את המלחמה עם האמירויות הערביות המאוחדות. הקרב היה קשה אך הכוחות של ישראל הדלדלו יותר מוקדם מאלה של סרביה. תודות רבות לאנשי בריתנו ביוון,רומניה וכוחות מוצבים מהפיליפנים. לאחר שש שעות האזור הפך לאזור ישראלי בזמן ספירת הקולות מה שמחק את תוצאות הבחירות ומנע מהדיקטטור הסעודי עוד מדליית נשיא מדינה.
