[Just a Thought] Floating in Public Discussion

Day 1,124, 11:49 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Connor West

Welcome to the second issue of “Just a Thought.” Before I begin, I would just like to say to the citizens of the eUnited Kingdom that you are absolutely without a doubt the most amazing people on the whole eplanet! See the picture below to see what I mean.

I was like, “HOLY MOTHER!” when I saw this!

Now, on to business. Today I was browsing through the eUK forums and I saw, in the public discussion forum, a proposal to do away with the advisors in the House of Commons as an amendment to the House of Commons Act.

Before we go any further….
It’s definition time for newbies!

House of Commons – British-speak for Congress (HoC)

Prime Minister – British-speak for President (PM)

Advisors – People in the House of Commons (see above) who were not elected, have no voting rights, but generally have a lot to offer in the way of experience and wisdom. They are considered for the position after being sponsored by the PM, HoC member, or MoLA (Minister of Legislative Affairs). There is a 24-hour discussion, followed by a 24-hour vote by the HoC in which a simple majority is required to admit the candidate as an advisor.

Now, what I think about this:
Personally, I am opposed to the idea (although not to the point that my mind can’t be changed). The main argument that I notice the author, lap12345, uses is, “All that advisors do is advise. Ministers have access to the House of Commons and can advise just as well, so why do we need ‘advisors’?” (This is not a direct quote from lap12345, it’s just a summation by me of his main argument). This would be a valid point if it weren’t for one thing. You see, the advisors to the House of Commons have been traditionally people in the eUK with enormous respect from just about everyone and game experience that very few of us who play have. For example, this month’s advisors are: Iain Keers (Secretary General of Phoenix), Jamesw (former Prime Minister [although, he won’t be doing much since he’s left eRepublik]), Mr. Woldy (former Prime Minister), GGRyan (former Prime Minister), and Frerk (former Secretary General of Phoenix). My main point is, “Why would we want to deny the House of Commons easy access to these people’s experience and advice?” (This is a direct quote from me. You can find the original text in the previous sentence). It was also mentioned in the discussion that the members of Cabinet are not noobs who don’t know anything, which is quite true. But many are still not Mr. Woldy, Iain Keers, Frerk, etc. who have a lot of experience not only in the eUK, but throughout the eworld.
---Also, I would like to extend a shout-out to Tomazim who’s renown sarcasm made reading this discussion thread quite enjoyable.

There is another piece of legislation floating around in the public discussion forum involving crime and punishment within the eUK. It addresses such issues as stealing, leaking information, treason (fighting against eUK in battles), and more. Overall, I feel like it’s an excellent piece of legislation; however some of the punishments need to be amended. For example, theft from an organization will result in 3 months on the blacklist and all money must be paid back to the organization before being un-blacklisted. Under this particular rule, if someone steals all the gold in the BoE (Bank of England) they are banned from congress and the forum for three months and are expected to pay back all the stolen GOLD. However, they probably would have bought a moving ticket and applied for citizenship elsewhere and intend to spend the rest of their edays living in luxury on the eUK’s expense. (brought to you in part by Joachim von Bremen, a comedic reference to something he said on the discussion thread) So, as stated before, I feel like, after some work, this could be a fantastic bill that passes in the House of Commons.

Now, to discuss my special project. Were these ideas discussed in a friendly and productive way? Well, for the most part I thought so. There was an instance or two (I won’t name any names) of things like “Such and such hates such and such which is why he/she is supporting/proposing this.” (This is not a direct quote from Such and such, it’s just a summation by me). And there was an instance where a certain eUK citizen (whose first name is that of a Dragon Ball Z Character…. Hint hint, nudge nudge) was a little rude and non-constructive, but the majority of discussion involving these topics I felt was done in a positive way. Good job, eUK!

So, vote and subscribe, please. I hope you enjoyed my article. Oh yeah, and if you don’t subscribe I’ll get Captain America to head over to your house, fly through your ceiling, and eat all your cookies (that was a comedic reference to my being a real-life American).

Sincerely,
Connor West
