Irish Ministry of Community - End of Term Report

End of Term Report

I was delighted when Marcus Suridius accepted my application for Minister of Community last term. I felt it was time that I took on a role within the game. This ministry was one I felt passionate about and I felt that it was well within my ability to succeed at the job. Little did I know the commitment that would be needed to make a success of the role.

Since I took the role 19 days ago, I've published 15 articles (including this one) but in my first I outlined 4 key objectives for the term:

1) To encourage participation from New Players in The Irish Community
2) To welcome our new friends to the Irish Community, we are honoured to have you amongst us.
3) To remain transparent, open-minded, unbiased and impartial, during my tenure.
4) To have at least 2 Competitions per week (1 Lotto and 1 other) open to all Irish Citizens.

Its not up to me to determine whether or not I achieved any of these objectives (that's for you the community to evaluate), they were lofty goals at the time but as I said "It aint going to be easy, but you gotta aim for the stars".

During my term, I brought back the Lotto, making it a weekly event of which there have been 3 so far and another will be launched in the next 24 hours. Ticket sales increased, with each lotto campaign, showing greater participation, but most noteworthy was the increased participation from Younger Citizens.

The Greek Themed Quiz was a huge success in my opinion. The article was the highest voted Irish Community Article of all time (116 Votes in Ireland) and it was also published in Greece (38 Votes). In my humble opinion the Quiz helped to welcome our Greek Brothers to these shores and many of them have made remarkable donations to the Irish Community ever since.

That brings us onto donations. It was a remarkable term for the Irish Community with record levels of donations received for Irish Citizens and other friends of the Irish Community. It meant that the Irish Community actually turned over a profit for the period. The IEP balance has increased from 624 to 4,781 and the Gold Balance has increased from 1.33 to 21. There has also been significant Food and Weapons donations for the "Food and Weapons Drive!" A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the Irish Community, it wouldn't exist without your donations.

The Irish Community has also been helping out younger players and those who were struggling, by providing food and weapons to help them on their way. Again a huge thanks goes out to everyone who donated food and weapons to me during the period. These donations helped many Irish Fighters to keep their heads above the water.

Well, what can I say? They weren’t very magical in May! It was the one blip of my term. I don’t want to start a huge hullabaloo here again so I will just make this point:
I ran the Awards with the utmost of impartiality and fairness. The ballot counting was 100% clean. I removed the original article of my own volition, not to cover up any wrong-doings by others, but out of pure disappointment that the article was only serving to divide the very community that I was commissioned to protect. I should have thought that action through before removing the article, but what's done is done. You live and learn. I would appreciate if you could all refrain from commenting on the Awards below, I don’t want that repeated here. This is neither the time nor the place in my opinion.

There were other activities during the month as well, the rude Anagram Game (results to be announced shortly) and the Free House for young Citizen game. It was a busy but enjoyable term nonetheless. I would like to thank everyone who helped me on my way; it was a pleasure working with you all. eIreland has some amazing players, who continue to donate to the community, and who look to enjoy the game. Working as Minister of Community has opened my eyes to that in a big way.
