International Instability: How to Behave

Day 1,178, 15:06 Published in United Kingdom Croatia by Arrlo

The past few months have been a time of great change in erepublik, but unlike the great upheavals the admins have forced upon the game, this change comes from the community itself. The two great alliances began to fracture and break apart towards the end of last year, and many partnerships which had lasted for years were turned on their heads almost overnight.

?

For some this dynamic atmosphere is both liberating and exciting, with mouldy old alliances being pruned and reshaped, and a chance to break away from the eternal, often stagnant conflicts in Eastern Europe. For others, it is a profoundly confusing and perhaps even sad time, with long standing friends quickly becoming bitter enemies, and new friendships beginning to flourish between old foes. Decisions we make, and how we act now will directly affect the eUK's place in this game, and set us on a path of friendship, or at odds with an entire grouping of countries. With this in mind, I've prepared some simple advice for players to take on board in order to make this uncertain period a little easier to deal with.

1 – Panic!

Things are happening which we have no control over, so it is a great idea to lose your composure and panic. Speculate wildly in the press, make silly assumptions, troll foreign diplomats and be sure to take the big decisions in haste. Those of you who are lucky enough to have a direct say on these things in congress: do not participate in debates, vote exactly as two or three people tell you and quit the game in three to four weeks.

Quick! Let yourselves be rushed into things or all is lost!

2 – Be proactive

While countries are still sorting out their allegiances, it is advisable to attack as many countries as possible, and the surest way to make your mark is to attack all the countries which you share a border with. This has many positive effects for your image abroad. Your current allies will thank you for diverting their damage from important battles (at that time and again in the future during the return fights, in the highly unlikely event that the eUK military is ever bested), and those you are not yet friendly with will be impressed by your aggressive, “go get 'em” attitude towards their friends. As well as this, it has always been good erepublik strategy to make enemies of all your neighbouring countries, providing as many points from which to be wiped, destroyed and occupied, which is the ultimate goal of the game. As such, all congressmen should aim to propose each neighbouring country as Natural Enemy in turn.

It wins friends and influences people

3 – Court both sides

There is nothing quite as attractive in an ally as unreliability. We all look at our real life friends from time to time and take a moment to appreciate just how charmingly inconstant and fickle they are, and these qualities are even more important for your friends in a team game. Characteristics like this will ensure that your country retains a high standing in the international community, and keep the eUK extremely safe from enemy countries who would struggle to forgive us for being despicably trustworthy.

Sounds like one desirable ally!

4 – Now lie back and take it

Once your winningly oafish antics have attracted the attention of potential mates, the leaders of your country will most likely receive offers from interested parties, and my advice to them is to take the very first offer that comes along immediately. If this involves a different alliance to your closest friends, so much the better! Commit yourselves to ideas that are too big for you, and your new friends will admire your pluck, and tousle your hair affectionately when they are forced to clean up the mess you adorably make. Finally, always blindly believe all the promises given to you by countries who want something from you. After all, you may go back on your word, but nobody else playing erepublik ever does.

I know you'll take my advice and do me proud, eUK!
