In Focus: Malaysia

8 Day 517, 08:32 Singapore
Recently (well, to be precise yesterday) I moved to Malaysia, partly because I had become completely fed up of my sweat-shop wages and exorbitant food prices - I am earning over 4 times more than before and am not having to spend it all on my Q3 food - and partly because I want to travel a bit before I settle down.

Trying to immerse myself in Malaysian (lack of) society I read a number of local articles as well as some Singaporean and Australian publications. Out of all of these articles one from Singapore and another from Malaysia really caught my eye. The Malaysian article is from aLpin's (the Malay Minister of Defence) newspaper "Biasa Bukan Berita" and was entiled "( MoD ) Future plans" (it is currently the 2nd favourite article with a grand total of seven votes) and the Singaporean one was in Glade's (originally named) "The G Newspaper" and was (more flamboyantly, he's gonna killl me for saying that, entitled) "Shafer? Malaysia? WHAT THE HELL?" - yes, what the hell indeed I said to myself. The latter article has stolen my debut article's rightful place (I forgive you) at number one with 17 votes (my own has one less, by the way, vote for me).

Ironically, both their articles had the same clunky structure of title, bullet point, bullet point, repeat (as needed) with aLpin's fractured English and Glade's, well, more eloquent language... But, obviously you are not reading for its striking analysis on the intricacies of the English languages but on these two politicians wrote...

Glade's piece weighed up the pros and cons of "expand[ing] Singapore's borders" and ended his article, not trying to be radical, by calling himself "a neutral person inclining towards expansion" (meaning in my eyes: "I wanna nuke these #%?!*& but still wanna keep my political aspirations so I'll wait for things to unfold."). Our aRbbit-loving friend however declared "in this eWorld I have choose Romania, Indonesia, [&] Italy, we can get war from that nation [sic]". Uh-oh, I thought to myself these guys are s-c-r-e-w-e-d if they try and take on these big boys and (I thought appropriately asked if he was mentally instable. He confirmed my suspicisions when he stated: "I think they'll not attack us [back]".

My point in this article is that if Singapore invades/unites/TOs Malaysia will it stabilise the faultering economy, lack of man-power complete power vacuum (the current president has been permanently banned) or if they don't will Malaysia become the Kamikaze of the New World. Just some food for thought.

We actually have pretty cheap prices, you simply had the misfortune of going into the raw material sector in SG.

Singapore is good for manufacturing. Our economy is geared towards that.

Sorry Tabi but the land tech wages in Singapore aren't competitive. Try out Manufacturing here and you would be much more satisfied. Every nation has its specialties just like Malaysia has High Oil they can offer better wages in that field.

Plus you must also remember the value of 1 SGD is about 2.5 times greater then that of 1 MYR. In this regard you must equate Gold value of both our strengths to compare wages which I am unsure if you did as it did not specify. MYR land wages vs SGD Manuf wages I would be inclined to believe we actually pay better on average as we simply have more business and stability.

As far as the Sg/Malay unification (in any regard) that many people continually bring up. It is impractical in any way/shape/form any time soon so to continually be talking about this is rather moot for anyone involved to be honest.
