ILP – Building the party

Day 1,793, 02:31 Published in Ireland Ireland by Comrade Lovely

Comrades and citizens of eIreland,

This is my first article on eRepublik. I am motivated to write after reading WHS's call to arms and for the investment of trust he has placed in me by making me Gen Sec of the ILP, despite my relative inexperience. I completely support his initiative to rebuild the ILP so that we not only remain the largest party in eIreland, but that we compete for every congressional seat. We can't be complacent about our third of the vote. Every day other parties are messaging our new members trying to lure them to the other side. In my first week in eRepublik I received two recruitment messages from Saoirse inviting me to join them, even after I had joined ILP. I didn't receive one from the ILP, not even a welcome to the party. This has to change. Getting a structure in place to bring our natural supporters into the ILP and keeping them informed and active will be my first goal in my term as Gen Sec.

A further point of illustration concerning the size of our challenge: in the recent PP elections, Saoirse, our nearest and bitterest competitor, managed to turn out 50 votes across all their candidates, including 5 for their planted candidate in the ILP and 19 in their attempted PTO of the IFP. We managed 46 across all our legitimate candidates. This means they managed to mobilise nearly their entire base. If this was a congressional election, they would have more seats despite our having a sizeably bigger membership. Now, we are disadvantaged because we fight fair. We all know that our rivals use multis and largely get away with it. But that means we have to double down on our efforts to build an organisation that will lock-in our natural advantage as being the party of inclusion that offers opportunities to everybody, not just some old guard who think they have a natural right to rule. As such, building an electoral machine that preps our base and makes inroads into the large number of swing voters will be mine and the ILP's second major task. We have already made a start in addressing that. WHS has made clear: congressional seats will be allocated on the basis of honesty, activity, newness of players and crucially, the efforts invested in rebuilding the ILP. Nobody can rest on their laurels. All is to play for.

I hope that ILP members who share our goals and other eIreland citizens will take part in this conversation by messaging either myself or WHS ingame, so that we can build the broadest, most inclusive party in eIreland.

Fraternally,

CL
