How Your Government Should Run

11 Day 539, 19:35 United Kingdom
So, firstly, apparently you have to be controversial to get votes here, so I'll begin by saying "You Suck!" or some melodramatic saying like that. Not that it applies nor matters, but there you go.

Now, onto the beef of the article.

I may be a controversial figure, in any country, alliance, or otherwise. I may be an ass, cause drama, problems, or so on, but I get results. I always have. Causing drama is one thing that actually gets people off their asses and tells them "Hey, we actually have a bit of a problem here, we might want to try and fix it. It stirs emotion, and eventually raises energy and contribution levels. You can see my last article to show you that.

However, one thing I've done as well as anyone in Erepublik is know how to get results. I don't think I've found more than a handful of people who didn't agree with my Government style. Foregoing all the names, stereotypes, types of possible Government, and so on, frankly I don't care what it's called. I don't care whether you want to call the Government a Democracy (which it isn't, but thats another argument for another time), Republic, Dictatorship, or so on. The bottom line is no matter which form you choose to implement, there are various ways to get things done. There are plenty of people that are going to come at you during elections of all kinds, throwing about terms like "Unconstitutional", "Undemocratic", "Elitist", or so on. The fact is people use these sayings to merely mask their own attempt to install their own brand of each form. Someone claiming to be "Anti-Elitist" just happens to not be part of the "in crowd". That's it. There's no ground breaking revelation there. They just aren't cool enough to play on the monkey bars with the others.

There are three main keys to Effective Government Organisation. You can take these will all the grain of salt, not believe me, or not care if you're not willing to put the required time in, but if you really want to be successful, here are your most effective ways of doing it:

1. Knowing how "Large" you really want the "Government" to be.

It's all nice to want everyone involved, but eventually the larger your Government becomes, the more out of touch it will be. Having multiple forms of legislative branches or committees, ninety Ministries/Departments, and/or one job for each responsibility of the Government is too large, and in translation ineffective. There are only really certain key roles that a Government needs to have any say in:

a. Currency Regulation
b. Communication
c. Military
d. Market oversight (making sure there are required products available in each industry and quality, and at reasonable prices).

That's it. There's no mystery there. Other programs like National Forums and Unemployment schemes can be added, but creating programs for the sake of creating them is merely making your Government too hard to control.

2. Communication is the Key to Understanding.

Each Government Department should communicate regularly with it's citizens. Each one normally has it's own Org, and it's own newspaper, but yet they're rarely used. For example, I personally feel like Count Drakula is doing a fairly good job in the Ministry of Trade (my Old Home), however, I rarely see any communication, market analysis, or otherwise to tell us what programs and/or options it has to give me. I see the same thing for about every other Ministry, with the one exception being the Ministry of Home Affairs, which I largely see as a spin-off anyhow. The MoFA has done so in the past with regularity, but seeing as it's now the PM's paper, it doesn't count anymore. The Prime Minister's newsbriefs are good, but each Minister should keep seamless communication so the public has confidence it in's abilities.

And right now, that isn't happening. Just because people are in the forums does not mean those who are not there are not citizens. You must, as a Minister, operate with the understanding that not all people are going to read your stuff at the forums.

3. Consistency is the Key to Success

Being consistent in your operations, having your self surrounded by people who were obviously the best choice for the job, follow through, and making sure you can accomplish what you can set out to do.

For those who don't understand those concepts, that means not setting unrealitic campaigns just to get votes, and making sure that if you're going to support one principle, you must do so in all aspects, not just where it happens to favor your ideas.

So, for those aspiring to lead a country, Alliance, or otherwise, those are things are pretty damn electable. If you want success, follow those and you should at least end up giving people an honest candidate that actually does the things you say. They'll see, through the process of earning your stripes so to speak, that you're the best candidate for the job, and put you in it.
