Bulgarians did defeated Arab Muslim invaders of Constantinople in 8th century, but not because they were allied with the Byzantines, but because Bulgarians wanted to conquer Constantinople by themselves. They didn't want to see some ragheads taking the biggest booty in the world right in front of their noses...
