One of my favorite movies is Groundhog Day,it's an 20 year old-movie with Bill Murray. Most of you have probably seen it. Basically, the story is about a egotistical, bitter weather man, sent to a small town to film a news piece about the tradition of the groundhog, coming out of it's winter hibernation and depending on if it sees it shadow or not, predicts how much longer winter will last. The character Phil Connors, through some unknown magic, begins to relive the same day over and over again. At first he is tormented by his situation, but after many repetitions and several suicide attempts, he accepts his fate and begins the arduous task of trying to win the heart of a woman. She rejects him at first, but through his incredible efforts to become a better person, he gets the girl and so the curse is broken.
How ironic it is, that we are all reliving the same day, over and over. We work, train and fight. We battle our enemies, to try to advance out skill levels and our countries resource bonuses. We battle within our own country, politically, to have the chance to lead the nation. We compete in the marketplace, well sort of. That's pretty much a wasted effort, now though.
Point is, it's the same cycle, over and over.
The game changes slightly, but not enough to matter. The game will never really change enough to rise to imagined expectations. This is the bitter reality.
What has to change is how we, how you, how I approach the game.
We can do better, a little bit every day. Realizing the tasks at hand, and working toward them.
Political co-operation across party lines.
Media cultivation and promotion
Nobody gets out of erep alive, let's work together and stop making the same mistakes, stop fighting over how and start working on now!
