GameChanger for PP of UKRP!

Day 1,967, 16:46 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by GameChanger

Hello all!

This is my first of two planned articles for my PP campaign. This one will focus on internal issues in the party, and how we should address them. First though, I should introduce myself.

I’ve been active for just about a year now, and for most of that time, I was a member of ESO. In early 2013, Joshua Whelan, the PP of One Vision at the time, persuaded me to join. While I met many new people there, the atmosphere and activity of the party left something to be desired. After about a month, I started inquiring about different parties. Thedarkace talked me into joining UKRP

Best. Decision. Ever

UKRP has been wonderful for me. It is a party of active players, players who talk all night on IRC, do podcasts together, and are supportive and kind at all times. I’ve spent a few months in UKRP, learning, meeting people, being a congressman, and helping grow the party. I’ve also spent several months in government, as a Cabinet Minister and 2x MoHA.

Recruitment:

The challenge with this is not to come up with a good plan, but one that isn’t exactly the same as everybody elses. I think I have accomplished that in this recruitment plan. The goal of my plan is to increase the effectiveness of the recruitment program while making it easier to recruit at the same time.

1. One Letter, One Message:
Something good I saw when I was recruiting under Cyg a few months back was one message that would be sent to any potential recruits. This will allow new players to get a unified viewpoint of our party while giving recruiters more coherence. The recruiters will draft a form letter that shall be used by every recruiter, with alterations based on the player being messaged if needed.

2. One Letter, One Person:
New players often get frustrated when parties spam out their mailboxes repeatedly. I plan on creating a Gdoc where the names of every person we have contacted are held. We will also put whether a person responded or not into the Gdoc as well. People who respond negatively, or don’t respond will be passed over. Players who respind positively or who have questions to ask will be given priority for response, allowing us to keep track of how many people could potentially join.

3. One Team, One Mail
I will set up a recruitment team of voluteers that will have a dedicated PM. The people on the PM will be given access to the Gdoc, and will be able to see which players have already been contacted. The recruitment team will be led by the Secretary General, and will be responsible for drafting a form letter, putting names/responses into the Gdoc, and most importantly, actually recruiting people.

4. One Standard for all
While I want to reach as many people as possible, standards must be put in place to assure we are not poaching or bribing players. As such, we shall not message any players over Level 20 about UKRP. Players before that age may still be looking around and experimenting with parties, and as such should be given a case from any party that wants to contact them. We shall not offer weapons, food, or money to players in exchange for their membership or vote. Such behavior is immoral and undermines the party from its core.

The end goal of all of this is to get the party to at least 120 members. Getting more would be wonderful, but I think realistic goals should be set rather than unattainable, unrealistic ones.

Party Communication:

UKRP has a very active IRC, with people almost always on. However, it is unusual to see new players on our channels. If a player joins, they should be guided towards getting on IRC, registering, and meeting people on the public and private channels. This will improve retention and increase activity. Managing new players will fall under the duties of the Councillor.

Articles:

I will be using my own paper for announcements, but the Spokesman of the party will be in charge of producing official articles for the party. These articles will be recruitment articles mostly, but may have competitions and the like in them as well. This is not a discouragement to players in UKRP who want to write for us. I fully support proactive players going out there and writing. However, having a centralized paper will help in the long run.

There are also a few standards that ANY UKRP member should follow when writing for UKRP or advertising it.
No vote buying. Vote buying floods the media with articles that do not deserve their votes. It pushes out smaller papers from the top 5, reducing their visibility and ability to reach people
No lies or slander. Some parties may exaggerate or falsify claims about us, but that does not give us a license to lie and slander other parties if they are not deserving of it. Respect shall be shown to everyone, regardless of party affiliation.

Here are the positions open for my cabinet:

vPP: Backs me up, helps manage jobs when I am not around. They will also keep an eye on the other departments, filling in for the Councilor if they are on vacation, for example.

Secretary General: Is in charge of the recruitment team. They will be the primary one in charge of the recruitment mail system, the drafting of the form letter, and maintenance of the Gdoc. I will assist the Secretary General in all of this, but it is the primary responsibility of the SG.

Councilor: In charge of players who have just joined the party. The recruitment team will notify the Councilor when a new player joins UKRP. The councilor will then help the players with any questions they have, and will guide the new player to the UKRP IRC and Forums, helping them register if need be. The councilor’s job is to increase activity and retain new players.

Spokesman: In charge of the Party Newspaper. I expect at least one article per week that details the benefits of UKRP, and events in the party that are going on. When UKRP are asked for an interview, and I cannot do the interview for some reason, the Spokesman will step into my place. It is the Spokesman’s job to understand all of our policies, and be able to argue for the party whenever and wherever the opportunity arises.

If any of these seem to be your cup of tea, PM me and inquire about a place! I will update the cabinet situation on Thursday, when I publish my External Affairs article.

Thanks, GameChanger
