Fun time in the New World
It was a chilly Sunday afternoon in the northern hemisphere of the eRepublik world. The researchers were checking a few political statistics concerning the latest congress elections. When suddenly the economic analyst from the team received a notification. One of his tools that is used on a frequently (every 6 hours) base to check the status upon major economic indicators provided some interesting information. There was 8% more gold in the market!
Knowing that the amount of gold usually increases by less than 1.5%, it was pretty sure that something went bad in the last 6 hours. The analyst quickly shared this news with the rest of the researchers and the team started applying the actions planned for these type of cases:
- find out the weak spot, close the module until it will be fixed;
- find out the snakes (that's the name he gave to people that were using exploits), restrict their access to the New World and take away their wealth.
- check the snakes transactions, donations, actions and any connection that they might have with other citizens (others might have gained a part of that undeserved wealth and these types of transactions are canceled).
The analyst and his colleagues managed that night to take out 90% of the gold created. The rest was blocked in the accounts or companies of the banned snakes. Further investigations are to be done, as tomorrow will be a really busy day.

All the actions realized in this time-frame were analyzed and most of them were reverted. Other transactions involving large amounts of Gold that occurred in past were already analyzed and actions were taken against the snakes back then. Also, the team of researchers consider resetting eRepublik the same as pressing the nuclear bomb button, which isn't fun at all.

Oh, it happened only this weekend? It was discoverd only because some people started testing and overusing it to prove it's existing, that's my understanding of this subject (or it just got out of hands, too many knew how to do it).
To fix this the whole world would need to be reshaped to something it was long time ago.

Reset the game. Fake gold was used to make it unfair. Removing the gold changes nothing that was accomplished with it already.

Just admit it... this bug has been there since day 1 of V1. And you just discovered it because the knowledge got wider spread and people started over abusing it. Just removing gold from accounts wont do it. This fake gold have funded company, payed for rank, changed the outcome of wars etc. Will be very hard to just 'fix' that.
And to have a system where the check if the account have enough money is done before the actual commit button is pressed is just incompetent programming.
Admin: There are rumours that fake gold did a big influence in the recent wars. How about that?

Kovacskoko: We're still analyzing this, but as an early statement in this huge investigations those transactions were not related to this issue that occurred today.
What about all wars who have been using all the extra gold, people has been cheating with? I hvae been told that this has been since the V1 came out. Its not that funny to play this game when people just cheating and not playing fair all the time.
And what about all people who having this extra gold and have been buying guns and wellnessboxes in war? Countries who has no chance to win a war because the other country using the extra gold the have been getting from this bug?

after many massive ban actions with unbanning almost all, you've took money from accounts. and then gave it back not to everyone. it was right after v1 started. reasons? I don't know.

There's always some one who won't get baned, because all those search programs aren't perfect. And besides all that damage has already being done.
What you have to do is this:
At this point all we can do is reset everything. It's the only fair way to deal with the exploiters.
Reset everything that can be bought for gold to zero. Ranks, companies, money, inventory items, organizations, everything. Otherwise the exploiters still stay ahead of everyone else unfairly. Everyone goes to no inventory and just the default citizen fee. Strength and Job skills (can't be exploited with gold) can stay.
After zeroing everyone, Give people their gold back for things that are legit in-game - levels, hard worker metals, elections - so enough people should have some gold to start all-new companies with. Give people their gold if they bought it for real money, too. But all other gold should be gone, zeroed.
Restore all nations to original borders, since wars were won and lost by gold-exploiting tanks.
To me, that's the MINIMUM reset feasible. It leaves strength and job skills (and gold earned legitimately through game mechanics) but everything else should be gone. Otherwise, zero everything literally, and start us all as newbs. That's the range of fair solutions to this failure.
It's the only reasonable solution, otherwise, a lot of people, included me, will fell very ofended of your actions, because this kinds of bugs cannot happen on a V1 game, its ridiculous. Imagine how people who actualy paid feels.

not unfixable, prolly bad checks somwhere, but i think a reset would be the only fair way. Its not just about all the gold that's been masively spent, think about it on a lower scale, companies can slowly use up that money to have a better price on the market, basicaly washing the money while beiing an unfair competition to others.
maybe reset the game but give people only the money they earned from lvl's and achievements.
I have been playing this game 1 year today exaktly! Don´t do a rollback from day one. Have been given my soul into this game and have been working hard to get me were I am right now. I have been using my real money so I could afford to get into war because it was fun. Please don´t give that away by a rollback. Many people who has been playing this game will stop playing it if you are doing it.

not a full reset, just partial reset in some areas, both ways ppl would leave, but try to reduce that.
Admins this is an old problem, there's a lot of people with thousand of gold. This problem will not be fixed just deleting the gold from the monetary market. There are Orgs with thousand of golds, there are tanks who received a lot of money for the wars.
It's not so simple as you think, you need to ban and reset the game. There are regions who was taken with this bug, there are companies who get super rich with the bug, there are tanks who reached their status with the bug.
You know that is a huge problem and you are trying to show us as a minor bug. Come on guys, the game can crash if you dont reset the game and ban all the cheaters.
It's an opportunity to improve the game or go to the bankrupt.

Just in case any of you intend to badger the admins for a refund if they do, in fact, restart the game.
90% of the existing Gold is legit. 99% of the citizens are legit. Some used real money, some worked a lot for their achievements, some did both.
A total reset would be a mockery and a disrespect for EVERYBODY WHO INVESTED SOMETHING IN THIS GAME, AT ANY POINT.
Erepublik needs to do its part of he bargain and insure that the World is fair and balanced again. If that takes a lot of work, well, success! We did our end of the bargain.

That's just stupid, i have never cheated in this game i played this game fairly, i maybe just a captain but i put a lot of effort into getting there and i have an org and a business that i am running which i managed to make with my own money, so what do you expect to happen to that?

You cant just reset the game for some stupid people, they already said that 90% of the gold has been recovered and with the game architecture they can see who has cheated and donated gold about and upgraded companies and export licenses have been bought. So there's nothing to worry about.
i agree with Chuck. That way most of game and user acc. would be back to normal, but it will be hard to fix all damage that has been done. But i think that reset is needed, sadly.

This transactions were for a bug in the monetary market that admins fixed near two months ago (finals of November). All of this GOLD was deleted less than one day after.
So all Indonesian e-citizen will be banned then..

@ricardoORG: the "big-cheater-spanish-too" is the one who did the donation to the President, and the massive exploit in order to get attention of the real problem, which is "some" or "a lot of" users getting advantage of the bug for months. Don't try to distract.
Also, a possible solution to the problem with the donations, if the admins care enough to give refunds:
Upon restart, give all those who bought gold their first purchase free of charge, and keep giving them gold in one month increments in order of their previous purchases. It would keep people from having obscene amounts of gold in the beginning.
