First Congressional report: House of mirrors
People of eOregon --
Thank you again for the privilege of serving you in Congress. This is my first report to you on how I voted in the early chaotic days of the 16th Congress.
Committee appointment
I am delighted to report my appointment to the Congressional Budget Committee (CBC). From this post, I expect to provide eUS taxpayers with both accountability & maximum cost-effectiveness for their USD. It will complement my role on the Economic Council (EC).
Chaotic session beginnings
'Teh House of Representin,' as it's called in the eUS forum, is sort of a House of Mirrors. There are forums and subforums. Some forums have the same names as other forums. Some threads are meant to be proposals, others are discussions of the proposals, and yet others are for voting on the proposals. They are often scattered about in the forums and subforums.
Some votes are conducted 'in game' as shown on the eUS administration page. Other votes are conducted 'in forum' because the type of proposal is not supported as a feature in game.
Some 'in-forum' measures were proposed late on election day, so that new representative like me had to find them to vote on them. I was disappointed to miss several opportunities to represeint the People of eOregon.
Such 'in forum' proposals apparently have a chronic problem with low turnout among members, so the rules specify that only 20 votes -- or 39% of all representatives -- must be cast within 24 hours for the measure to reach 'quorum' and be considered passed or failed. Without quorum, the measure fails. The rules committee is thinking of lowering the 'quorum' number again -- this time to 15 -- or a mere 29% of all reps.
I suggested at least two ways to improve turnout for these important votes -- such as approving 350 GOLD payment to Mexico in exchange for a peace treaty -- but so far have made no headway. I intend to suggest two other ways later today. And if necessary, I'll repeat the suggestions until they are implemented.
Voting record
OK, enough procedural minutia. Here is how I voted on proposals:
MPP with Germany - Yes
MPP with Israel - Yes
MPP with Greece - Yes
Min wage from $1 to $10 - No
Min wage from $1 to $1.01 - No
Constitutional convention - No
Send 27,500 USD to Ft Korbin (govt run weapons factories) - Yes
Print 20,000 USD for the cost of 100 GOLD - Yes
In-forum votes I did not find in time to vote
Creation of the Congressional Budget Office - Would have voted yes
75,000 USD donation to Ft Knox - Would have voted yes
350 GOLD peace proposal with Mexico - Inclined to vote yes. Did not read full text of treaty.
Thank you eOregon. God bless you & may God bless eAmerica!

I've been reading other papers from freshmen congress-people. There seems to be a common thread. Check out the others as well. Perhaps the freshmen can get together and reform that body. I would urge you to do so - for the sake of the people. Let it get the light of day as you do here - share the news as a coalition - to give credibility (it won't come off to some as self-serving) - and shame those who are into secretive smoke-filled room schemes to build their own power at the expense of the people.
All the best!
I am not at all suggesting any self-service in my comment above and insert this post script after re-reading my comment and realizing it could be interpreted as having that inference. Not at all. I was speaking of the likely dismissal from those who hold power and do not want to lose it. Oftentimes, those with insufficient insights somehow manage to get some authority and then build up and cling to power by controlling the information flow. Those entering in can expose this and make the whole process more transparent and functional - as you are doing. And I commend you for it.
No offense taken Tomma. Thanks for the feedback.
