Fed up of war, war, war?

Endless, Perpetual War... This is the reality of eRepublik today, and I'm sure I'm not the only person being put off by this.

I'm exhausted. This game is non-stop war. With the NE function on the game, it is no longer exorbitant to to start a fight. With the automatic activation of all MPPs, there is much less strategy to the game, much less fear of consequence when a war is started.

Now I know that this will sound very King Canute - because the Admins will not make a change to the game that might lose them profit, even if it improves the quality of the game. But even for my own piece of mind, I'm going to say it anyway...

Let's bring back some realism to global politics and alliances.

I propose the following:

Mutual Protection Pacts - become just that: They are activated when you are attacked. They are no longer activated for aggressive actions.

Bring back the cost of starting a war. NE can allow a bonus in fights, but take away the 'free war' element. It's wholly unrealistic for the act of war to be such a cost-free endeavour.

Introduce a new concept of Permanent Alliance. This is something that is brought in at much higher cost than MPP, but it does not need to be renewed. It must be cancelled by vote of congress. There is an automatic renewal cost which is less than the cost of signing a new deal. Permanent allies can participate in aggressive actions. Let's make the cost of such an alliance proportionate to the population of a country that is over level 15, this helps smaller countries afford alliances and removes the prospect of penalising countries that go on babyboom drives.

Also let us bring in a regional factor to alliances. Its hardly realistic that New Zealand can attack Australia and benefit from the full and immediate firepower of Serbia, so let's add in a factor to show the benefit of allies in your neighbourhood. So if you have an MPP or Permanent Alliance with a country with a region that is connected to its capital that is in the same travel zone as you, you get a regional bonus to your hit score (like the NE bonus). If you are distant from your ally, then get a penalty to your ally's hit score.

And finally, let's bring in the concept of conscription / community labour projects. I.e. that the efforts of many of your citizens in community projects can build benefits for the entire community. For example the president could establish a community project (or mission?) to build defences. If enough citizens complete a daily exercise then a Q5 DS is built on a specified region. Presidents could incentivise such activity by offering a CC reward to each citizen that contributes to a project.

What do you think?
