February Polling Results

10 Day 1,535, 12:38 Austria Political debates and analysis Political debates and analysis

The results of the February Presidential Polling are in - and it reveals a very close race so far. Below I will take a look at the results, as well as divide the numbers a bit, but first we can take a look at the approval rating numbers for A.Emmerich in this month.

A.Emmerich receives support from a majority of Austrians, with 53.57% expressing approval, while 23.21% express disapproval, and the same number are undecided. But interesting results are revealed when these numbers are divided by party.

He receives his strongest support from the PHP, RPO, and ACoP, each giving 80% or higher. The ÖIP gives him similarly healthy support, at 68.18%. Where he begins to find strong opposition is in those who are unaffiliated with a party: only 16.16% approve compared to 50% who disapprove. The strongest disapproval comes from the ASM, who cast no votes in approval and 45.45% in disapproval (the rest were undecided). Needless to say, the ASM does not give strong support.

Next, we will look at the poll results on the issue of the Presidential campaign itself.

Consistent with previous months, approval of a president has not directly translated into support for re-election, and in fact polls slightly lower. 42.86% expressed support for A.Emmerich’s re-election bid at this stage, while 41.07% expressed support for Vreath. Significantly, neither has majority support: 16.07% are undecided, enough to swing support to either side. Again we can divide this by party.

A.Emmerich receives his strongest support once again from the RPO, PHP, and ACoP, receiving between 60% and 80% support. But the ÖIP, significantly, is almost completely divided, with 50% expressing support for the incumbent, and 40.9% expressing support for Vreath - someone with significant ties to the ÖIP.

As with the previous poll, Emmerich finds his weakest support from unaffiliated voters, and members of the ASM. Conversely, Vreath finds his strongest support from the ASM - 90.9% - and second strongest from unaffiliated voters, with 50%. Along with the 40.9% already mentioned in the ÖIP, he also receives 20% from the ACoP.

While it has been a very busy month with several wars and invasions, the biggest issue in the comments was by far the Kuroc issue. Many expressed concerns about how it was handled, likely being an explanation for many of the divisions. Along with this was a call for more openness and communication expressed by some quarters.

As always, these results are not scientific. However, it gives at least an interesting look into the race, and some of the issues people are concerned about. Below is the final poll showing the results for the party question.
