Experiments in Democracy & (No) Royal Writers!

Day 1,918, 12:44 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Mr Woldy

‘iya. For last week’s Royal-Writers, scroll down - don’t think I forgot (though it seems like everyone else did!) As explained previously, I took a week off to frolic last week and I have made a glorious return to talk to you briefly about a scheme that Iain ‘babyeater’ Keers has asked me to take up.

Experiments in Democracy

What-ho, citizens.

It is a concern of many that the ‘in-game’ populace, that meaning those who don’t frequent the forums or IRC, are left out of the political machinery that drives the eUK. This is an obstacle that people have been grappling with in many ways over many years, and is no way one that is exclusive to the eUK.

In the late-Nineteenth Century, the German scholar Leopold von Ranke institutionalised the modern-day seminar in Universities across Germany, and they quickly spread (WHAT A DICK). It is in the form of ‘seminars’ that one of the eUK’s more recent experiments in Democracy has manifested itself.

Keersy Weersy, as the Party President of TUP, has begun this initiative as a means of getting in touch with wide sectors of society in the form of think-tanks. Beginning with TUP members as a guinea-pig, he has asked me to create several think-tanks consisting of people from across the ‘player spectrum’, whether they be in-gamers, forumers, IRC’ers, congressmen, presidents and so on and so forth. Several think-tanks will be created and ran ingame in order to get an idea of the needs and wants of society at large.

What I find exciting about this idea is that in a way it really takes the game to the people, rather than waiting for people to find us. Taking think-tanks populated by a diverse cross-section of society operating in a encouraging and helpful manner towards the players should produce promising results and such an approach is quite unique. Even more exciting, is that if it proves successful, -which in many ways is inevitable, seeing as even if only a handful of people participate, it is a handful more than would otherwise be doing so- then the scheme shall be expanded to nationwide think tanks, forming various focus groups made from citizens of all walks in elife functioning as a mouthpiece to the executive wings of government. It is ambitious, and in many ways it is educational and egalitarian, which is the reason why when I was approached to help get this idea going, I accepted.

So, if over the next few days you find a message in your inbox introducing you to a bunch of people you don’t know and asking you on your opinions of our tiny island-Nation, fear not, have a say, have some fun, have some cake.

The Royal-Writers Project

‘iya again. As mentioned, last week I was afk so I asked you to submit your articles to the illustrious google form. The following are those articles published last week that have been nominated and deemed worthy of mention:

Minecrafting Instead, for his CP Debate Logs, I felt this worthy of a mention as the CP debates and what goes on when they happens may be a point of interest for many!

FightandProduce, for his eRepublik implicated in horsemeat Scandal.

(More to come!?)

Unfortunately, pixies broke my gdocs (or no one nominated anyone) and so unfortunately there are as of yet few cash prizes to be given out, which is why shouting etc is very important. So that people know they win get cash for articles! If you wrote an article last week, or know someone who did, PM or comment with the link and I shall judge whether or not it is worthy of a prize. Your ongoing participation is much appreciated.

I have returned now, so I can keep an eye on the media myself and note down good articles, though contrary to popular belief I am not omnipresent, so, you would be doing me and the media a favour if when you seen a good article, you pop the link here.

Don’t make me mention pluralism again! (This means you Jan)

I will however say that, these past days have illustrated why we need to encourage writers to write, ‘vote buying, vote buying everywhere!’. I leave you with this:

Cheers,
HRH King Woldy I,

OBE, KCVS, MC, HRH.
