Dear citizens,
On the 9th and 10th of December, eRepublik will participate in the '08 edition of Le Web, the #1 Internet event in Europe. Therefore, Alexis Bonte, George Lemnaru and Cristi Badea will be in Paris next week. They will arrive on Monday and will stay in France until Thursday. It would be great to have an eRepublik meeting in Paris during one of those days. If you wish to attend, please submit your proposals concerning the setup of a gathering. Further details about the meeting will be given in a future Insider article.
Meanwhile, we want to announce that your citizen can now use its gained experience to go beyond level 14. More details regarding this improvement can be found on the eRepublik UPDATES forum topic.
Keep an eye on this one as this is where new features or updates will be announced in the future.
Newly added notice: Today (December 3, 2008), between 05:00 and 05:30 (eRepublik time), the avatars/pictures from the website will not be available. There is no need to worry if you see that problem.
Mutual Protection Pacts
Over time Mutual Protection Pacts have changed and evolved. As a result, an updated description of an MPP is now necessary.
A Mutual Protection Pact (MPP) is an agreement between two countries. If one county in the pact is attacked, the other country automatically becomes an ally in the war. This agreement is favorable as you can count on your partners to come to your defense in case you are attacked. On the other hand, you will be forced to fight against any attacker of the countries linked to this agreement - even if that attacker is a partner of your country in another Mutual Protection Pact. (Example: If countries A and B both have an MPP with country C and country A decides to attack country B, the MPP between countries A and C will be canceled.)
MPPs can be proposed by the president of any given country. If accepted by Congress, it will be valid starting the day it was accepted for one month. After one month the MPP is disabled automatically. Before being disabled, the president can propose another MPP with the same country and, if approved by Congress, the end date is delayed for 30 days.
MPPs work only for the regions that have always belonged to a given country (a region in which a resistance war is impossible to start). If the country that is being attacked tries to conquer one of the original regions of the attacker country, attackers' MPPs are active and all its' allies can fight in defending those regions.
A special case is encountered when your country borders the attacker that declared war on an MPP allied country of yours. In this situation, a war is automatically opened between your country and the attacker. No MPP will be activated for this secondary war.

The cost for a MPP, they are still 30 gold?
Strange that if A & B have a MPP. C have borders with A & B. C attacks A. War will start also between C & B. But B cannot be helped by soldiers in the land A. I think this should be changed.

Ahh, when I read about you going to France, I was seriously considering going, I then realised I don't have a passport, which is a nightmare and very expensive to get in the UK..

I asked you about this so many times and at the moment I still have no answer.
Admins: You should limit the number of times a region can start a resistence war. Limit or make them more expensive.
It has no sense the fact that Portugal could start for less than 100 gold a resistence war in Campeche every day.

I have to disagree with the rules of the MPPs. This is a world mirroring the real world. People do not want peace here. They want war. The community only actives during wartime. At peacetime they remain in coma. MPPs are far too efficient in stopping wars from occurring.
I would suggest that instead of allowing the MPP nations to teleport or make orbital insertions to warring countries while still remaining comfortably in their homes, you only give the MPP nations a free war against the invading nation (if they indeed border the invading country) as well as allow the citizens of the MPP nation to move into the defending country without expenses. Naturally, this movement should be one-use-only but also covers the return trip.
I find it to be really unrealistic that a whole nation can fight in a country that is thousands of kilometers away without ever leaving their home country. Also that ruins many potentially entertaining wars, such as the wars in South America.

Give a reasonable explanation why in a RL war a country should not be able to send troops to the attacked allied country to fight even if bordering with attackers.

You are not supposed to built empires on erepublik jondalar.
All real life empires have falled because of internal strife and rebellions. I do not see why this normal development should be forbidden in eRepublik. If you really, really want to build an empire, then you need to recruit some 20 000 players to this game. Then your country can't be ruined by political takeovers and you have enough strength to fight the partisans. Do not invade countries unless you are prepared to face the consequences.

This new way of MPP's is strange real strange, It is in my belief totally wrong. I understand the fact that if someone declares ware on your ally that you declare war on them, but why declare your own war instead of supporting your ally with troops. Its not like every ally is going to attack war on the same region, and have a fight over that region with 10 country's all trying to win that region. So just give us our normal MPP's back but keep the thing of braking up MPP's when country A has an MPP with country B & C, and country B attacks country C, the MPP between A & B is canceled.
I think the new method of "forcing" neighbouring countries of hostile nation to get dragged into the war is brilliant. It's just silly that you can fight on the defending side without actually being in war with the invading country. Naturally that should lead to a war and MPPs should provide that. At least now nations have to think carefully when making MPPs if they are ready to be attacked as well.

@Erwin I gotta disagree with you. At least let the allied countries with borders and MPP's attack without trigering the attacking nation's MPP's.
This way Spain only declared war to Portugal and now, countries that are kilometers away can help us but countries close to us can't and are now endagered, risking being attacked by spain as well. You think this is fair ? Well I don't.

Whatever makes the MPPs less useful is fine by me. It was wrong that this ruling was not told before the war, but in the future you have to think twice if you really want that MPP. If you are not ready to fight and place your own country at risk, then you better not sign any MPPs if there's a hostile country next to you attacking your ally.
It might be wrong in this case that Spain got free wars, but it's just a sign of weakness from your allies if they are not willing to start an offensive war against them in order to take the pressure of your back. MPPs are protection pacts, and it should not mean that you are able to sit safely on your home sofa and fire couple of shots each day into the air that then land thousands of kilometers away and hit some bricks in a foreign country. That's even more insane than forcing them to join in a real war that actually threatens their country.
This system still needs development and its far from perfect, but I at least like the direction where this is going. The MPPs are still too strong, but at least now you have to think of the possible consequences when you sign one. No more free riding during wars.
This is all fine and dandy, but, when are you going to fix the achievements in Beta? I still haven't gotten my super soldier medal and the gold that comes with it.

There is a problem with the erepublik map. We can't see Germany, Finland, Russia and so on... The map isn't updated. Admins, please fix this bug!
germany invade poland... French and english MPP wioth the Polish is activated and they are in war against Germany.
UK and France can attack germany, and germany can attack UK and France (they did it some time after).

Replace the word "until" with "starting from". I doubt that sentence actually means that admins will pay gold for old levelings, but only from the future ones.

And can't allies fight in that war without having to move there? Spain declared war on Portugal, which opened other wars. Now they are attacking France and Portuguese soldiers cannot defend without moving there.
Is this a good way of starting multiple wars for the price of 1 and only that main one does have the "remote fighting" possibility?

Irralistic is that an indonesian mpp activates if someone attack austria at other side of world.
If two nations want figth, must have a frontier.
this is random war, random mpp, random game : no strategy at all, if you want to be the winner, you just need to cheat to get gold, that's all.

In RL cross world alliances are not unusual. The Vietnam war (North vs South + USA) for instance is quite a good example of what you said

@punta: When Campeche was under Portuguese protection, Spain was at war with Mexico without any borders with them.
Regarding declaring war with countries without borders, why not? Make it more expensive and possibly create structures such has Harbours and Airfields (which will be similar to the Defence System) so that people from a region with those structures can participate in remote attacks and defence.
This whole MPP design decision has made MPPs completely lose their value. It's just a way of attackers to have N free wars for the price of 1, where N = number of countries with MPP with the originally attacked one.
Countries with less advanced economies and few people won't be able to make good alliances since big countries will not want to have free wars declared on them.
As suchs, MPP as worthless, taking into account the game context

The previous Spanish government were working on re-writing this article in the new French language (Spanish), I don't know if the new government will countinue this job.
