End-of-Year Brawl Underway
29 December 2009, Day 770 of the New World. After a worldwide inability to fight, the nations of the two major alliances appear to have released their frustrations onto the world stage, particularly in Europe. At least thirteen engagements have begun in the last 24 hours in Europe alone with both power blocs playing offense and defense. An important battle ended earlier with the American conquest of Jharkhand from Iran.
The only prior fight in the war between the United States and Iran, neither of which has activated mutual protection pacts, was in Liaoning. Through a series of region swaps, the United States invaded Liaoning from Shandong and took Iran’s high-iron region. Iran’s high-wood region was Jharkhand, which also fell. Iran now holds no foreign territories, only existing in its original borders and separated from China, India, and the United States by Pakistan.

Now that the situation in Asia has simplified slightly, the situation in Europe is complete chaos. Seven different wars have active conflicts with core territories, occupied regions, EDEN, and Phoenix all under attack.

Slovenia joined Hungary and Serbia to launch a three-front assault against Croatia. Croatia and many EDEN allies, including the United States, repelled all three attacks, and all those mutual protection pacts persisted and were renewed. It has long been speculated that Croatia could roll over Slovenia with the many alliances the Slovenes foolishly activated, and that appears to be happening now. Croatia armed with twelve mutual protection pacts is attacking four regions of Slovenia – Lower Carniola, Inner Carniola, Slovenian Littoral, and Styria and Carinthia. The Slovene region of Prekmurje, which has a Q5 hospital and borders Northwest Croatia, is not under attack yet, likely so Croatia can maintain initiative if it must.
The Spanish invasion of France halted with a wave of attacks that saw Limousin, Auvergne, Languedoc Roussillon, and wood-rich Rhone Alps conquered. Additional French mutual protection pacts made the frontlines considerably more silent. The war between France and Spain is once again hot as Spain is attacking Loire Valley and Franche-comte. The mutual protection pact between Italy and France provided Spain a war with Italy, and the Spanish have invaded Sardinia and Piedmont.
Three German regions are held by Poland presently, but the war between Poland and Germany has not seen any engagements in more than eight days. That tranquility was shattered as Germany invaded Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. These regions are not originally Polish territory, so EDEN alliances are not activated for Poland. Brandenburg and Berlin, a German region under Polish control, is not under attack now, allowing Germany to maintain the initiative and continue to avoid Polish alliances.
The Romanian campaign into Asia went through Bulgaria without completely conquering the country, keeping four mutual protection pacts against Romania open. Bulgaria has invaded Dobrogea, running into Romania and ten allies. The United States is not included in this list because land-swapping through China, which is a Romania ally, has ended the United States-Romania mutual protection pact. While Romania is not necessarily too threatened by Bulgaria, especially now that mutual protection pacts are involved, it is threatened in another region by Hungary. The Hungarians are invading Crisana, which is seeing the possibility of Hungarian conquest despite no mutual protection pacts helping Hungary.
The Romanian campaign saw Greece helping by blocking Turkey. Greece alternated attacks on core Turkish regions in a war that saw a Turkish invasion of Greece previously. Turkey is now invading Greece, and both countries have a considerable list of mutual protection pacts behind them. The attack came in the Aegean Islands.

Turkey is also invading Israel at the Haifa district. Turkey has a considerable list of mutual protection pacts behind them here while Israel is only defended by an alliance with the United States. Turkish conquest of the region is considered imminent. Bulgaria is blocking Greece in Macedonia and likely drawing away some damage but leaving Bulgaria to a future scenario similar to the one facing Slovenia now; Greece has a long list of mutual protection pacts open against Bulgaria now.
Indonesia is renewing its quest to conquer Malaysia by invading Sarawak.
Similar situations in the past also featured Russia and Latvia invading Finland. As Russia currently has no president, it is unable to engage in offensive action.
