Elections dawn - a guide to elections for "newbies"

Day 380, 12:24 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by CV James

Tomorrow, as on the 5th of every month, all citizens with an in-game experience level of 6 or over will be able to vote for a list of candidates to become President (or "Prime Minister") of eUK. The candidate with the most votes at the end of the day will win. The reason for the experience restriction is to prevent political parties from creating hundreds of fake accounts to ensure they win, which in the past caused effective "dictatorships" in countries such as Pakistan.

A banner will appear on the eRepublik homepage - clicking on it will direct you to the list; (you can only vote for one candidate, you don't put them in order of preference). Remember, you are voting for the CANDIDATE not the party.

A President has many roles they are expected to fulfill, so it is best to check the candidate's manifestos to see what they are offering before coming to a judgement.

The main roles, responsibilities and duties are:
*Head of State - basically the personification of eUK
*Head of the Army -they can propose and sign peace treaties and mutual protection pacts, and decide when an army attacks a region
*Head of Government - a President can propose Trading embargos, decide which regions get defence systems and hospitals, and vote on minimum wage, taxes and new citizen fees.
*Cooperate with Congress - nearly all legislation in the UK requires the approval of Congress (the in-game parliament) and the House of Commons (which is found on the UK forums)
*Communicate with citizens - a leader must have the ability to communicate with the public to keep them informed of the latest news from the executive.

You can find the candidate's manifestos here...

Tommy Tomassino (from the Movement for Democratic Unity)
Bremer (from the People's Communist Party)
Dishmcds (from UK Reform) Supported by the UBP, TUP and the Libertarian Party
Squiddy from The Unity Party and Valpiedra from LT-United are running but have not released an official manifesto.
UPDATE The Unity Party will be supporting Dishmcds

And comprehensive comparisons of the candidates here...

I think that's pretty much everything - please feel free to add anything else I have forgotten in comments, or ask any questions that have not been answered here. I hope that helps for anyone who was unsure.

Yours
