Defence Shield - Repost

As there have been new shields installed yesterday, I think it is a good moment to repost this article again.

What is a Defence shield?
A defence shield helps you defend your current regions against foreign takeovers. It basicly adds a set amount of damage to your side of the bar to give the defending country an advantage in the battle.

How is the added damage calculated?
On the military page of a country you can find the current shield capacity.

This is the total shield capacity and it will be divided over the total region’s that the country owns.

Once the campaign is started, the damage will deducted from the total shield capacity. That amount will then be equally divided over the first 5 battles. In those battles, the division of the bonus damage will look like this:
- Division 1: 5%
- Division 2: 10%
- Division 3: 15%
- Division 4: 70%

What happens after the fifth battle?
After the first five battles, it is possible that the shield is not entirely wiped. If in a battle the attacker does less damage than the shield capacity, the leftovers will be added to a designated fund. The shield capacity for the sixth round will be deducted out of that fund and will divided over the divisions just like the previous rounds. The amount of damage used for the sixth round will never be more than one of the previous rounds. If there are once again leftovers, they will be put back in the fund. This process will carry on until the fund is empty.

How do I know whether the shield is broken or not?

In this example you see a resistance war by Mexico against Spain. On the left you see the proportion of the total damage that is there because of the shield. It is also indicated by a little shield icon. To make it simple: Once the red line on the attacking side is longer than the red line on the defending side, the shield is broken. If this is not the case, the difference will be added to the fund.

What happens when campaign is over and there is still damage left in the fund?
If there is still a part of the shield left, it will be added back to the countries total shield capacity.

What are the possibilities for the shield capacity per region to happen?
The shield capacity per region will drop when you conquer a new region or when you successfully defend a region. Your shield capacity will remain the same however when you lose a region after a campaign.

Is it possible to lose a battle while there is still a small part of your shield left?
It is theoretically possible if you only win D1/D2/D3 during the first thirteen rounds and D2/D3 in the fourteenth round. If there is no damage done in the lost battles that leaves you with 17% of the shield. In practice it is not possible to abstain from fighting due to the battle hero gold.
