Congressional Report #7
Sally Willis
If you never bothered voting before, tomorrow, 25th October, is a watershed Congress election for eCanadian politics AND YOU SHOULD VOTE.
"Yes," you say. "But I know nothing about the politics in this game. Why should I bother?"
The present Congress, was the first full-sized such assembly we'd had for months (you DO remember the long months of struggle against Spain?)
So what?
I'll tell you so what. This last Congress has given away eCanada's western reaches to the eDutch and the eSwiss. I would like to able to share with you the details of how these deals were struck, but I hope to continue in Congress for a while longer, and spilling ""secrets"" is forbidden. You can read the guff here (if you have an account on the eCanada forums).
If you don't have an account, click the picture below for a full-sized screenshot of the page.

The eWorld is changing ... it's been doing that since it started, but right now weaker nations like ourselves have to adopt a cautiously conservative stance towards those who would be our friends, and not piss-off those who should be our friends (like eUSA) Likewise we should consider more radical domestic policies aimed at benefiting eCanadian citizens rather than propping up the sick men of eEurope. Charity should begin at home.
So, if you never voted before, vote CPF tomorrow.
If you normally support a smaller party, consider switching your support to CPF. The CPF deserves to be not just the largest party, but the majority party. Give a majority and we shall fix eCanada's problems.

First time offense warrants a punishment up to 6 months
Failure for PP to comply with No Fly List delays Congress masking for 1 week
wow, and you guys thought the CoT vote done by Congress was an injustice towards democracy.
too funny, guys, too funny
Congress screwed the Black List up big time. A great concept; just executed very very poorly
Unfortunately, we'd probably not see results otherwise in this game.
There are no real "laws" for the country to govern by
It puts the onus on the PP to keep those who would betray our interests out of congress.
PP's have the power to keep such undesirables out of congress - or at least, to the bottom of their list of congressional candidates.
And with a requirement of 2/3's agreement among congresscritters to add a name to that list (which means cross party support) should be a sufficient safe guard to making sure congress doesn't just add any name willy nilly to that list.
My problem with the Act is not that it punishes the PP, but that it punishes innocent Congressmen by denying them their seats for something that they have no ability to change. It is unfair, and it is wrong.
My other gripe is with the "second offence=ban for life" Seriously? That's too harsh, at least make it possible for the individual to come off it with 66% of congress like what is written for the first offence.
Once these two issues are fixed I will support the act and I encourage Congress to act.

So the solution is to create an even bigger stick in the forums to threaten people into obeying a player-based add-on to the game?
You guys need carrots to get people more involved. Bringing out the stick is an immature reaction to a problem that requires a more mature solution to get players cooperating together in Congress.
Auk Rest makes a great point about punishing Congressmen unrelated to the offense or the order of candidates. Since when are Party President elections immune to corruption or bugs? So you get a bad election with a trolly PP who puts the worst offender at the top of the list and then the whole Congress line-up gets burned.
Or maybe you can make exceptions to the law when there is a PTO PP vs a genuine PP
Or maybe you can create regulations for appeals that exempt innocent Congressmen from bad PPs.
And maybe add a whole series of clauses that will cover up the unexpected consequences eCanada will go into turmoil over as different factions try to enforce the list or fly in the face of it.
good luck with all that.
FREETEMUNJINBC!!!! Part Duh...
Auk, but it's the party members (which includes congresscritters) who elect the PP. It's thrust is to prevent the party from re-electing such a PP. As to the life time ban, I'm rather ambivalent about it. A month or two down the road, perhaps Congress will be more favourable to an amendment on that issue.
If find myself 5 gold richer on Saturday ....
I'd like to see the new house hit the ground running and take some serious measures. From what I have seen Congress is out of control, even by its own crazy rules.
The CRO needs to revised and combined with punishment scales so everyone can see who is responsible for what, when and how.
The Speaker is given too much freedom. I'd like to an impartial speaker whose role is to carry out the will of the house and not the other way around as at present, where Speaker has a big stick and a few cronies let him use it to beat dissidents into submission, or to crush debate.
Congress also needs to address the issue of "Law" ... it is difficult to impossible to find which acts are current, which are obsolete, and which are plain crazy.
Finally, Congress needs to take control of the nation's finances. The "Treasury" should be safeguarded and taken taken out of the President's hands. What serves as the in-game Treasury should be used as a petty cash box. The real national wealth should be held in organizations under control of a trustworthy apolitical individual. A President who wants to spend cash would then have to go to Congress, cap in hand, and justify the expense.
These are tough jobs. No easy solutions. But filibustering and saying it can't be done is not an answer.
Oh yes, one more reform badly needed. Unregistered visitors should be able to read (not post in) Open Door Congress and other related political forum areas.
ffs take it up with the admins of the site, it isnt a issue for congress
boo hoo
it punishes the "party" for putting shitheads on the ballot and just may stop retarded impeachment proposals that leave us vulnerable should the need arise to actually impeach one
I do agree that perhaps a life ban is a little much but a CP can always EO someones removal and Congress can always amend it in 24 hours should the need ever arise
Sally are you even playing the same game?

Congress has complete control of the nations finances until it donates it to whatever, the CP has no direct control, he can not touch treasury money until congress approves donations and it is FUCKING STUPID to suggest that the nations wealth should be kept in any organization as THAT is when it is vulnerable to theft and misuse, ask around, we have been down that road before
What kind of argument is that? "I don't agree with what Congress is doing, so vote for my party to give it a majority?"
You do realize that a majority of one party would just mean that anything your party says goes, right?
It's better to get a (somewhat) equal representation from every party. That way, different ideas come to the table, and there has to be some kind of consensus from the different ideologies in eCanada.
Vote for a party, but if you do vote CPF, don't do it just because this article asked you to.
theres a reason why your alone on almost everything you propose Sally
