Congressional elections improvements
Dear citizens,
Quick info: We are sorry for yesterday’s downtime, there were some severe issues that affected some European hosting providers and unfortunately both our providers were affected.
After receiving your feedback about the congressional elections system and based on your requests regarding the political module, we've focused on finding solutions to the following challenges:
1. Easier access for the elections results and voting page.
2. The congressional elections should be region related.
3. The voters should not have to choose among hundreds of candidates.
4. Candidates should have an easy way to present themselves and their program.
Solutions
1. In the main menu, after accessing the 'Community' tab, a button named 'Elections' will be displayed for all citizens. This way, during your navigation in the New World you will only be at a one click distance to see what's new in the eRepublik elections.
2. The mayor position was missed after the V1 launch and we've focused on bringing back the citizens that represent the interests of the communities in their regions. Therefore, if you are a member of one of the top five parties in your country and you have at least 100 EP, you have the possibility to run for a congressional seat in your region between the 16th and 23rd of each month. On the 24th the list for congressional candidates will be closed and the party president will have the ability to manage the position of the members on these lists. We wonder how this phrase will sound - “Hello mister congressman of Alabama”.
3. The number of congressional seats will be determined by taking into consideration the number of regions in each country and it will vary between one and ten congressional members per region. This way a citizen will not have to place a vote among a list of 200 candidates.
4. When you decide to run for a congressional position, you'll have the ability to provide a link to a presentation for your potential voters.
We'll do our best to implement these improvements before the next congressional elections take place on the 25th of November.

In regions that have for example 10 congressional seats people should be able to vote for 10 persons.

Change the Top 5 parties rule. Don't exclude all other parties from the beginning. If you really don't want to have more than 5 parties in congress, give the seats to the 5 parties which perform best in the elections. This way smaller parties have at least the possibility to compete with the bigger ones and it would decrease the influence of big parties that have lots of people who are almost or completely inactive.

Secret voting is a must.
The limit of top 5 parties is discriminating, since a lot of dead citizens are counted in many parties.

What is the criterion for number of congressional members per region ?
(40/number of regions) or (40*region population / country population) ?
Can you PLEASE implement a veto function? I know I'm tired of stupid proposals every day blocking real ones! If some new congressperson makes a tax proposal, a real congressperson can't make one until the next day.
What are the benefits of regional voting? Don't say it's different regions have different needs, because they don't. No one is tied to their own region like IRL, since you can buy a moving ticket for 2 days pay and move away. Even if you do, it doesn't change anything, because everything is exactly the same in every region.
Also, if you don't implement this AT LEAST 10 days in advance, you have to wait until the next elections. We need time to adjust and organize our party (in a way not related to actual campaigning, which shouldn't be necessary for an election).
Erepublik is changing in a fast pace now. Feels a bit ad hoc but now you listen to critics and they implement a new system for a but trial and error.
A step in the right direction I would say.

If someone run for congressional elections and has got no vote by his region citizen but is the 2nd on the party list... will he have a seat or not ?
If he doesn't, it means that's a regional election and that region-elected citizen are although congressmen... What if party members and party leaders change residence to the one or two regions most populated to be elected ?
Are we growing from proportional representation to election by majority vote ?

Could it be possible to allow different countries' congress to choose their preferred voting system? I don't refer to how it is presented so much as the uninominal system of voting; where some people get in because they have an overwhelming amount of votes, while others get in from only 1 (or 0?) vote. Many votes are "wasted".
How about allowing congress to also select the following options while in office: "Party-list proportional representation" (in beta), "single transferrable vote" (solves a few people getting massive votes and others only 1 and still getting in) "mixed member proportional representation"(sort of a mix between the two above). Anyway these an more are all on wikipedia (the main one).

I really like V1 now. I hated it when it came out but now I love it, it's way better than BETA.

But again, if election results are shown in live then many people will travel to other regions to vote and to get other congressman.
The best way to avoid cheating is not showing results until the end of the elections, but if you think that this is not acceptable then you could not allow to vote a guy who has moved to a region the same election day, or something like that.
So you have decided to stick with the cult of personality elections instead of party elections? The only thing we really complained about?
Why can't you make it so that you count the votes given to the electees in the party to determine how many seats the party gets and THEN give the seats to those who gained the most votes in the party? You still haven't fixed that, as far as I am aware.

I would love to see each country choosing their own electing system but I guess that's a lot to ask when the control of elections isn't country based and there are still a lot of other things to focus on.
What I don't like is the congress based on regions. Never liked it in real life and don't think it's a good idea here when there's nothing different in from one region to another (excepto for RM now) and we're still so few.
This also means that someone can get one vote in a region and become congressman and one can get 50 in another and don't. Is that representative?
Removing mayors and implementing this is not compensating one thing with another. What if I want to be represented by someone located in another point of my contry? do I have to move? will I be able to vote then?
Congress shouldn't be about regions here... there are not enough differences to make that necessary. I want congress to represent me no matter where I am.
I think congress should be a two steps elections:
first the list in every party voted by it's members and second the congress elections itself.
Still, it's getting better and I really appreciate the work done. ^^
Also, I want to see the results during the 24 hours the elections are held. Otherwise it would be a day like any other and that's not "fun". And FUN is the key word.
Btw, nationalities is a must. PLEASE. I'm spanish in Norway and don't know if I can vote the 5th and I don't think it's right. (Someone stole my passport on the airport? xD )

1. Who will gain seats? The first 1-10 (depends on region) candidates with the BIGGEST number of votes? OR Proportionally to number of votes on parties?
2. If we have 10 seats in region, we can vote on 1 candidate or 10 candidates?
This system sounds much better. Although, like Modu Shanyu, I wonder what your mathematical formula is that you will use to determine how many congressmen come from each region.

To me, this article has some very bad news- "top five parties in your country"
My party, America First Party, was growing; but not near the top five yet. How can we every expect to be in the top five, if people won't join the party because it now has NO affect on politics in eUSA whatsoever!

And not a single word about being able to actually see the candidates on the list, or implementing representative democracy. I believe regional voting will just be another step further away from a voting system where every vote counts equally. I've got a very bad feeling about this!

Admin: Can you hold new October elections please, in countries that were affected by bugs in this election? eThailand has become a dictatorship due to the bugs, and the bugs will have lasting consequences into November once the unelected supermajority impeaches the new president after the next election. This country is in dire need of admin intervention, or at least a way to sue the living daylights out of the ruling party.

@Cristi badea: If only votes of each candidate counts... we well have the same problem. A region with 10 congressmen, one congressmen with 40 votes other nine with 1 vote only.
Or we make a region for every congressmen(buy population) or we make a repartition of congressmen by the % of votes.

Probably I'm stupid, I don't know, but I don't understand very well the new voting system you want to implement.
So: people will be able to run for Congress from the region they are coming from. And the voters can only vote for the candidates in their region or they can also vote for people in other regions? If they can only vote for people in their region, how will the seats (percentage)in Congress will be divided amoung parties? I mean in one region party 1 can have x% and in other y%. How will you divide the seats in congress for all parties?

Regional elections for congress will be a huge improvement. That should help cut down the number of candidates voters have to look through and will ensure that each state's interests are being represented.

Congressional elections should be open to all parties and not just the top 5.
Otherwise great work admins, looking forward to it.
Make sure the number of congressmen per region is proportional to the population in that region.
Don't make the stupid mistake of giving a high population region the same representation as a tiny one.
I'm somewhat surprised that the admins haven't put up a super-referendum throughout the whole of erepublik so that the entire system; the actual game, is democratic to an intrinsic and integral level. This would ensure that the admins provided a game that the players actually wanted to play and would also ensure a tighter, more efficient way of directing development rather than just squawking on the shout box/forum/pming the admins. There should be a link in the info tab to a page where current version modifications could be suggested and voted on (subject to the admins approval of course!). That's just my two cents anyway.

You should change the voting system for congress.
No there is this 24 hour voting time. It is stupid to wait 12 to 16 hours when you can already see that it will accepted or rejected.
Change this so that when 21 out of 40 have voted the law is either accepted or rejected. This way the covernmet will work more effectively and still maintain the democratic principle as the majority is ruling.
I do not understand why the system what was in the Wiki is not used. It is very good, you vote for party, party get seats than inside party you can choose your best candidate. Party shpould make the list they like, but voters vote for the ones they like. The regioanal system has no real use either than say from which region a candidate is comming. In the eNetherlands we have 4 regions, with nice names (North, East, South and West). No one will have any connection to these names.
And all parties should be included. Maybe that only after the elections the top 5 parties would have seats as a compromise.
And indeed, why Erepublik tells me I am a Mr. President, I really do not know.
But admins, I hope you can improve the system, do not experiment.

Bug strikes back on wellness. Yesterday I had 90 wellness (think I remember this right), and decided to buy 5 Q5 food. Today I have 100 wellness, and I've eaten no food. Good for me, bad for erepublik.

I know that an organization cannot be party involved, but if we want a way to keep all parties' communications in one place... we don't have any. The president can always make the press releases on his own newspaper, but if the president changes?

VaReTas: many nations already use organisations as Ministries. The part about not allowed to take part in politics purely means that they cannot vote nor apply for seats in the congress, run for presidency or party president.
I see no reason why your party could not have its own organisation. It's not forbidden anywhere.
I really have a problem with the top 5 party rule. This effectively eliminates smaller parties from having any influence, including the influence of there own sub-region where they may be actually be the dominant party.
What about implementing REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY instead of these strange malfunctioning systems? Two steps - first choose party, next choose candidate. There you go. The solution that will work. Local representatives are not needed.
