Day 3094 of the New World
May 10, 2016
Here we are just four days into Resource Wars. It certainly took a few days to figure out what the hay Plato was thinking. I still don’t like it very much, but it’s probably slightly less complicated than I originally complained it was.
But today I want to address the eWorld with a challenge:
There have already been several instances of International chicanery.
As you probably already know, the “race” to get resources involves a very tenuous balancing act across multiple battle campaigns and across every division. The difference between accumulating 250 Domination points per minute and 260 can mean losing out on a resource entirely. It’s micromanagement in its highest form.
And so when, in the final critical minutes leading up to a resource drop, some rogue element from another (probably antagonistic) nation scrambles your masterpiece by flipping walls, it is frustrating.
You’ve probably already seen some of the rage articles. One of them even asked if it was “dirty” or “foul play”.
As I commented in that article, I don’t believe it is “dirty” or “foul play”. In a war game, there really isn’t such a thing as dirty or foul so long as the terms of service are not being violated.
So I do think it is “fair play” for one nation to screw with another nation’s careful balancing act as they attempt to accumulate the same resources we’re all shooting for.
Yes. It’s fair.
But I also think it’s a dick move.
Actually, I think it is a foolish move. Here’s why:
Everyone is watching every battle. If you start screwing with, oh let’s just say Pakistan for example, Pakistan will know who screwed with them. You may have generated for yourself a lovely temporary trollface laugh, but you’ve also just bought yourself a month-long fly in your own ointment. Does anyone think for a moment that proverbial Pakistan isn’t going to start screwing with your nation’s battles?
Of course they would. Who wouldn’t?
Good job trollface, you've just created a problem for your own national leaders and strategists as they work their asses off FOR YOU so that you can have that extra 15% on Weapons.
And so I am publishing this very brief bulletin, hoping it gets worldwide readership, asking us all to agree on just a couple of things during May.
1 - There are no enemies except Plato.
2 - Mind your own battles. Let every Nation have a level shot at success. There are already enough reasons to quit this game, let’s not become a reason for each other. Not during Resource Wars anyway.
3 - Save your nationalistic hatred of enemies for June. Believe me, it will be much jucier if your enemy scores a resource that you can now attempt to conquer. If your enemy has no resources, they’re a crap enemy and you’ve just devalued the game.
Remember, I’m not complaining that it’s cheating or foul play.
I just don’t want to see eRepublik become a Town with No Cheer at all.
And that is what I fear will happen unless we simply respect one another for a few short weeks.

Calling All Nations:

It's a dick move to do it to your allies, it's idiotic not to do it to your enemies.
It's part of the game to plan and defend against sabotage. If you fail, it is on you not the saboteur, he's playing the game, as he should. Without it you practically take all the fun out of it. It's supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be work. Maybe everybody got too used to doing nothing and just chasing BHs. There is nothing to do on this game, ever. Nobody cares about anything, there is nothing to care about. Losing a resource in the last minute is more fun that getting it without doing much at all.
Any gov that doesn't have sabotage teams, is not doing their job properly. Don't mess with your friends but it's your job to mess with your enemies.
I respect your opinion.
I just disagree.
Losing today was the most fun i had in years on erep and i knew Serbia is likely to lose it since it started slowing down the fights way late. It was much better than watching paint dry, that's pretty much what everybody is doing every day on erep.
What you want is to make the game boring for no reason. Dumb it down and take any fun out of it. You make a plugin that computes the ETA in real time, you adjust the fights a bit way ahead of time and you just watch how you win the res. Where the hell is the glory in that? That would be just terrible, why even play?
Not exactly,
My opinion is that the resource wars mechanics are already "fun" enough. They present a decent challenge for each Nation, essentially fighting against Plato's mechanics. Sabotage just "spoils" it IMO.
The fun, I hope, will continue when the Resource Wars are over and there is a new map and your nation needs a resource and a war to go get it.
It could be that Serbia's "fun" problem has to do with Serbia dominating the game for so long. Other nations have not had that problem to deal with. Know what I mean? Now suddenly a smaller nation has a basically equal opportunity, a way for them to be rewarded for having good coordination and participation.
Again, it's just my opinion.
You are looking at it from your point of view , you are always busy leading w/e but 99% of players just dump dmg every day and couldn't care less about anything. Even wars are pointless since the economy doesn't really exist. Back in the Kitty Kat days, wars did matter but now it's all a big nothing.
Here it's difficult to plan without any software tools and most can't seem to be able to do it but that's no reason to make it boring.
As for what's after , the rules are so unreasonable that many might just quit when they figure out what just happened. ight make wars more fun but that will depend on the prod formula, how big the new industry is and if it has work as manager.
"Losing a resource in the last minute is more fun that getting it without doing much at all."
I cannot make sense of this. If I click a bunch of times and out of no where somebody clicks once (using a bomb, which I have none of) and takes BH, I just had more fun, than if somebody hadn't clicked???
So you argue that getting a BH is fun? Clicking a bunch of times, then waiting 90 minutes is fun for you? I am truly sorry for any human that calls that fun. And yes someone trying to take it from me would be fun, because i'm not gonna let him get it and that challenge makes it fun.
Maybe you should Google the term fun. just to be sure you get what fun means.
have fun with yourself...
Writing is fun, meeting people from around the world is fun, having fun defined for me ain't so fun...
can you have self-respect without mutual respect?
The problem is people LOVE pissing other people off. It is human nature and the 'trolls' wont let it pass when it is this easy.
hmm, the problem is distance, for example if usa miss rubber it is not big deal because you will get it for sure in the future because it is impossible to put all 16 rubber on the map ... but if some european country miss rubber it could be her last attempt and this is one reason why you "must" screw up the neighbors 😉
The problem is the mechanics actually punishing you for hitting more, if people keep with this pace they will notice not now but in 2 weeks that they spent everything as Plato expected. Maybe it will be a good time to reveal what new industry is.
The game has always been about giving yourself an advantage. When a country x attacks country y, it always makes sure that the damage of country y is drained and/or divided(RWs, liberation/dictatorship coups, multiple fronts etc.). Would you consider those things dirty? Why would/should this event be any different? If you and your neighbor are in the race for the resource you both desire, it would be borderline retarded to not mess up their battles(or any other nations) if you have a chance to get it. Things like these were also present during last resource wars, nobody cared back then, why anyone would care now?
If a third party is aiming for the resource and is not paying attention, do they really deserve the resource? This event is not Resource LOTO, where you hope that you will gather just enough domination points smoothly and in time, this thing is called Resource WARS.
I agree with you. But there are far bigger problems with these resource wars. For example, some countries (USA for example) have thousands of kilometres and lots of regions, therefore they can safely coast this event and get all resources at the end without even trying. Had admin revised the number of regions per country to a fixed constant and revised the distance to be measured not in kilometres, but in number of regions in the shortest path between two regions with resources, game would have been fair.
I agree with you. number of paths between regions would have been the wisest. Why Plato suddenly introduces RL distances as a game mechanic is beyond my understanding. It's totally ridiculous.
It would have been out of character for him to do something not stupid, so ...
>without even trying
You should see how much stress doing this gives me.
Then you are doing it wrong. With 51 core regions, and large distances between resources, there is absolutely no chance you will not get all the resources if you are able to pull out 30k dom.points several times in the last 10 days when everybody either already has resources or can't install new ones because of the distances (like rubber in europe currently, for example).
LET ME STRESS MYSELF OUT IN PEACE
Yeah, sorry for trying to make you stressless 😉

Although I like this sabotaging thing (maybe too complicated, but still fun for me), but even if i wouldn't...
Such a cooperation could never happen. Everyone would disregard it, if needed to win a bonus, and later claim that it was only some terrorists or the political opposition.
We are at the kosing side
Couldn't agree more with the bulletin Gnil.
four days is already too much, 3 weeks from now we will all be happily playing solitaire
"What if the crisis really goes bad?" (quote from old eRepublik)
Getting along is probably a bad idea if you want this game to become more interesting. If countries get what they want, it'll just be as stagnant as ever.
its easy to say this in an isolated country with 2 smaller nations bordering them. europe is nothing but a choatic gangbang. if you look at the map serbia the country that will wipe the usa forever(jk but maybe ?) dont have the ability to get rubber, saltpeter, deer or grain anymore. a very peeved off serbia (after they get rid of their useless (cp) will be coming for that resources in june. this is a nerf a lowering of production. we are yet to see whether this will have an impact on prizes.
