Bulgaria vs Argentina - Pragmatism vs Idealism [EN-ES]
Chabon
The first Air Strike of eRepublik started as a promise. Back in day 1718, before Air Strikes were implemented, one of the candidates for Country President (CP) of Bulgaria wrote this during his campaign:
"Argentina will be wiped off the map" (1)
Without Air Strikes, that promise didn't sound realistic. Back then, that statement seemed more like a declaration of principles than a real plan. There's nothing more idealistic than an impossible promise. And that promise won the election.
Before Air Strikes, Bulgaria wiping Argentina off the map was only wishful thinking
Beware of what you wish for
With only 4 days in office, the new CP of Bulgaria received the blessing from Plato. Air Strikes weren’t cheap. But the cost was within the limits of the CP´s
It took less than 48 hours for the CP to collect all the food and money necessary to launch the war of his dreams. And that cost (over 2000 golds) was only to START the war. Maintaining the dream alive would require more gold and even abandoning some of Bulgaria´s home regions in the hands of their neighbors.
A war so expensive would require a juicy prize to be reasonable. But this wasn’t a reasonable war, remember? This war was an impossible promise that, after Plato's blessing, became an INEVITABLE war. So, the price was irrelevant.
Air Strike: 2000 golds. Your empty threats becoming possible: priceless.
There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there´s
A War from Heaven. A Holy War?
And so the first Air Strike in the history of eRepublik was launched. The goal was clear: to wipe Argentina off the map. The question was: why?.
"For the fun of it", was a good answer. "To get out of the monotony of fighting always the same wars with the same enemies. To do something different."
"For our allies", was another good reason. "To help our smaller friends to get free from the evil occupation of Argentina".
And that’s how the war started.
A very expensive war, made just for the fun of it.
A very costly war, launched in the name of justice.
Just as idealistic as it was conceived in dreams, the real war started as an Ideal War.
Most of the allied countries liberated and Argentina almost wiped off.
Day 1736 looked promising for the Ideal War.
It´s the economy, stupid (2)
Argentina lost 18 regions in the first 8 days of the war. The goal (wiping Argentina off) was not achieved yet, but it seemed it was only a matter of time.
Nevertheless, when one gets what one wants too easily, one usually gets greedy. After liberating its allies and having tons of fun beating Argentina day after day, Bulgarians felt they could go for more.
And so the Ideal War - the war for justice, the war for fun - turned back into the classic war: the war for resources.
The conquest was already done and ongoing. To profit from it, there was only one other thing to do: to move the capital from Europe to South America. And that seemed to be easy, since the abandoned European regions were almost completely conquered by Turkey. So, again, it seemed it was only a matter of time. Sofia would fall and the move would be complete (3).
Day 1735. Europe = 1 resource. South America = between 4 and 6 resources. Easy choice?.
Losing by winning
😉
Guessing each others intentions in eRepublik is as easy as getting “secret logs” (4). As soon as Bulgarians started wishing to lose its own capital, its enemies started wishing to let them keep it. Landing in South America proved to be easier than taking off from Europe. The “inverse wars” started in Europe, with Bulgarians cheering for Turkey in its battles and declaring a new war against Greece, only to get another enemy and speed up their own defeat.
And so the war that had started as an idealistic promise of fun and justice became the Pragmatic War: Bulgarians trying to lose its own battles, just to get more resources.
Day 1741. Resources war: Argentina = 5/10. Bulgaria = 2/10.
The Pragmatic War is not as successful as the Fun & Justice War promised in the campaign.

VERSION EN ESPAÑOL
Bulgaria vs Argentina - Pragmatismo vs Idealismo

vamos chabon!! idolo!!
There are a few glaring problems with your otherwise not bad article:
1. The cost for the airstrike was about 1400 gold equivalent at the time, money that were readily available in Bulgarian National Bank and equal to less then a weeks worth of taxes.
2. The food was collected by the general players and they collected for a second airstrike afterwards too.
3. Don't confuse weak tactics and strategy of a failed president with Bulgarian weakness or vice versa.
Grande CHABON VOTADO!
V
4. Argentina tanked 2 billion in the battle of Pando, which estimated in gold is 20K + gold. So "crying" about a visa while wipping your own is hypocritical.
5. The only reason Bulgaria is in South America is because Argentina is playing a style of game in which it is trying to dominate and destroy the countries around it. It should not be complaining when it gets an equal opponent, but be tankful for making the game interesting unless it is the other that it wishes to pursue to begin with.
6. War is not over, and Bulgaria has another air strike ready if needed, the only exit strategy for Argentina is to find a diplomatic solution with it's neighbors which allows them to exist, choosing instead to start PTO action within Bulgaria is the wrong move right there.
7. All this happened in the middle of summer for Bulgaria, when it is traditionally at 50-60% of it's strength and many of it's best players were not intricately involved.
@eDarkAngel: The article is not as much about Argentina as it is about Bulgaria. There's no complaining here. IT IS FUN having Bulgaria in South America. So, don't get mad. We're just having fun, aren't we?
8. In a couple of months when it is Bulgarian winter and Argentinian summer, the tables will turn very much and if when Bulgaria at it's weakest can cause this to Argentina at it's strongest you should be thinking in terms of what would happen if the roles were reversed.
9. There was a path to Argentina, longer that would have taken a month to realize but it is there and relatively easy to achieve: Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India and so on....
@Chabon
All I'm saying is that there was no pragmatism in the delusional wishes of a president to move our capital to South America and seek resources in South America.
As well the turn in the war is more due to poor tactic and poor organization and communication then anything else, believe it or not you've fought the worst organized Bulgaria in 3 years of game play during it's weakest month.
Otherwise I like your articles, you're one of the better writers, just making some wrong assumptions here, still the article is good and you have a vote from me ; )

DarkAngel, you have a fail of a president. I think everyone agrees on that.
