Building the Next Generation

Building the Next Generation

It is with great pleasure that I establish the official mentor program of the Libertarian Party, the Liberty University. It was on a normal September day that I came across a little known game called eRepublik. On that day, September 18, 2008, I became a citizen of the New World. When I first joined, I was of course confused and out of my element. I expected to lose interest after the first day. However, when I signed in the next day, I received a message from the Party President of the America’s Advancement Party, Evan Bayh, inviting me to join the community and see what really makes this game so great. And so I did, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made because I would not have made it three years if I hadn’t.

I think it’s a powerful and effective thing ,when someone who’s been around pulls a newer player deeper into the game by offering them advise, information, and friendship. Getting a generic, vague mass message with basic info can only go so far. The vast majority of us play this game for the community that exists in the meta game. Whether it be our party, our military unit, or just having eccentric conversations on IRC, it’s the community that makes the New World go round and round.

I know that many people view political parties as useless, irrelevant, and a waste of time. And I know there are many who view parties as simply a tool to meet their own personal ambitions. I don’t subscribe to either of these opinions. I view parties as the breeding grounds of the future leaders of our country. It is my view that the primary goal of a party should not be to win as many seats in Congress as possible, or elect as many Presidents as possible, or have as many members as possible. It is my view that the primary goal of a party is to focus on developing new party members into active, engaged, and balanced players, who will not only benefit their party, but the country as a whole. I know most people care more about, and determine success, by how "many" members a party has. I care about the content of the players that make up that party, and the leaders who are tasked to guide them forward. I could care less about how many members a party has, because I know that it means nothing if the party is not actively getting them involved and giving them a reason to stick around. Parties should consistently be at the forefront of building the Next Generation.

And that is why I decided to create the Liberty University. Although this is a Libertarian Party endeavor, I won’t discriminate against any Feds, Zombies, Socialists, or Independents who can’t resist my Libertarian charm.
