Brainstorm: How do we get a baby boom?

Yesterday's election showed a terrible trend for our country that has nothing to do with Jewitt, Woxan or any other candidate.
Total votes in USA, January 5, 2010: 4068
Total votes in USA, December 5, 2009: 4460
Our active population is shrinking, not growing. That's a 9% drop.
If we don't get a baby boom soon and we continue losing citizens at this rate, our power in the world will decrease significantly.
How do we get our own Polish-style baby boom?
I don't have the answer, if I did, I wouldn't be asking us to brainstorm.
Some ideas:
1) Try to get a feature/story/article about eRepublik in a major media outlet. I know people on the eUS forums have tried this with CNN and The Colbert Report, but neither effort has worked. There are tons of major media outlets out there, and I'm not just talking about TV. There's this thing called the Internets, even newspapers and radio could work too.
We'd have to figure out who to contact at whatever outlet we target, and have a really good pitch to sell. Make it newsworthy to them, either political simulation or World War.
2) Target niche gaming/military/economic/political websites, message boards and blogs. A bonus if we can all post on there ourselves (and not just look like we're spamming it, ideally).
The only games I play other than this one are Monopoly and fantasy baseball. I'm not much help here, any suggestions?
3) Go viral? Use Twitter or YouTube? This could be tough but be wildly successful if we got lucky and did it right.
OK, enough of me talking. Start brainstorming people, we need our own baby boom to stay on top. Feel free to post in the comments below, in a thread I'm about to make on the eUS forums or send me a message.

Some people voted in India doing anti-PTO work. Also, the American government is run by the same 20 or so people regardless of who is officially "president" so it doesn't really matter to vote at home as long as one of our top guys is in.

2. I don't know how to find people for the game. I joined from an ad on cracked.com but every friend I've asked hasn't really gotten into the game. They pretty much play the game because I asked them to and don't like/get it. So my only suggestion might be more ads on failblog and cracked or similiar sites...you have too much free time if you are on those anyway 🙂

Go to other browser games and invite people. That's what I would do.
Also ligtreb, remember that there is a large number of people who are now on vacation, you may have seen employees not work for a couple days at a time, I know I have. This isn't the best time of the year irl to make assumptions about true population growth based on activity.

This may be the first time the number of votes has dropped month to month.
I think getting on TV would be huge, but def. invite friends in the mean time. Give them advice and offer to help a day or two after they register. Pretend you have an "in" with the government, and hook your buddy up with free stuff from Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army.
We need to get Erepublik on Xbox Live and that would be the number one source, if you could play on xbox live, id even play more.

Its not even about a baby boom, we need to retain the 300+ citizens who start in the US every single day.

Well the real problem I think is, is the fact that some people just don't like text-based games. Also, about ads, remember the admins are money lovers.
Some people have tried the Colbert Report? Well, you probably didn't try hard enough! For christ sakes Colbert is the President of eAmerica!! He loves to talk about stuff like that on his show.

Well, some might remember that Maxx Johnson and I posted add on many voting game website. We have seen days with over 500 new player joining usa. We mailed all these new player with link to us forum and more like welcom, mow.. dod .. I personally have over 70 peoples that still playe the game on the 450++ that joined in the first week .. But this is a HUGE work to do ..
But Im quite confident that is a good way to attrack some more people to our cause!

Getting RL newspaper ads would not be as expensive as say Facebook, and they could potentially attract large numbers. Other large gaming communities may be better since they have people interested in this sort of thing anyway.

I advertise on Facebook, but it is expensive. And so far for me, only about one-tenth of the people that signup stay to Level 6. Not effective for a mass baby-boom.
Ads in college newspapers? Should be not so expensive and targets a good demographic.

If any of you have ever seen ads for another online game called Evony, you probably have noticed that they attract your attention. they portray beautiful women with quotes like "come my lord, rule you nation" i have to say thats the only reason i joined. if we could get ads like that i would expect an decent increase of population.
Try to get IGN to focus on us, or get Machinima to help put us in the spotlight. Machinima can be found on Youtube. Please tell me if this works

I doubt XBox Live would attract many active players. I think going Viral would be a better choice.
I have pulled in 22 lv 6's at least...all real life connections. I still think that is the best way to do it short of financial (Rmoney) advertising which isn't going to happen on our end...that's the admins job. If they are smart spending real money on getting new players will pay them back when people buy gold. Maybe if the eUS govt sponsors a challenge for society medals. Gold for those who can pull in a certain amount of lv 6 eUS citizens? Has that ever been tried?
Other than Colbert (seriously, mass message him, I'm sending one now), attacking a RL adversary seems to do the trick. The eUK could be spun as a virtual war for independence, or Russia as the Cold War gone wrong. Not that these are good ideas for the US or EDEN, but they could certainly bring in some zealous patriots looking to fight for their nation.
Facebook ads can be bought on a daily budget (they work a lot like eRep citizen ads) and if you can actually retain people who click it might be a cheaper way to get gold (from people reaching level 6 and you getting a small bonus) than actually buying gold.
invite as many personal friends as posible. If you play xbox of computer online and have clans or groups invite those people to erepublik and keep them happy wiht the game and active.

We need to get Erepublik on Xbox Live and that would be the number one source, if you could play on xbox live, id even play more.
I think this is a very good idea. Like we can just try and set up an organization where all we do is get people that have xbox live to just go on in game chat to just talk about erepublik even if its like your talking to yourself, people will still hear.
Also one problem i think with this is how do we get these people to keep playing. We need to make sure that they get to level 6 and beyond. Whats their use if they dont do anything??
Digg could be a huge help. I urge every citizen in eRepublik to get a digg account and digg anything about the game. The cite is widely used and the stuff that gets dugg a lot is seen by most digg members.
Someone needs to create a list of browser game list where you vote for game and get eRepublik on those list...that is how I found it.

Fer christ sakes - as many have mentioned, retention is the issue. I have contacted relative newbies (look by state to find those not in FL/CA) and offered assistance. Each of us can only help a few (presumably), but take a look at the citizens of the state or your choice (who are close to being able to fight), and trust yourself to recognize a few who might be keepers, given a few gifts, or maybe just a little moral support.
I seriously believe Retention IS the key... working this last week for Great Ape Wood, I watched as I went from 0 land skill to now 2.2... people were dropping like flies... so many red Xs
I wrote to encourage about ten people. I could see with a little help/guidance they could get past that threshold of level 5. Start to fight/heal etc, then 6 and vote...
No response...
Some stratagy of befriending needs to be thought out that will work large scale !!
