Blueprint for the Future #10

This will be my last major suggestion for a while... at least until V2 is up and running and showing major gaps. I'll run a re-cap next week with some little odds and ends that didn't fit anywhere, and try and get it global. Until then, thanks for reading!

There have been several suggestions to get Sports up and running on eRepublik. Normally any suggestions involve using third party sites or posting first on certain articles, but none have ever been integral to the actual game. So what I am proposing here is how we can get a real injection of sports into eRep.

In the last Insider Admin talked about an entertainment zone where you would go to boost happiness after work and study. They have mentioned cinemas and restaurants and day trips, but what about sports?

So say you set up a company as usual - (but let's call it a team). This team can then compete against other teams in the country. Every couple of days the team has the opportunity to play against another team and both teams can then sell a fixed number of tickets to the match for whatever price they choose. Profits from selling tickets can then be used to pay wages and maybe persuade higher skilled players to join your team. The higher the Q of the team, the more tickets they can sell and the bigger happiness bonus you get from them winning.

The skills of the team's players then decides the outcome of the match (with a healthy dose of randomness to keep it interesting😉. If the team you bought tickets for wins then you get a massive boost of happiness. If the other team wins then you get nothing. It is basically a great big bet on 'your' team winning.

So for instance:

Team A is Q1 has total skill of 100 sells tickets for 35NOK
Team B is Q5 has total skill of 60 sells tickets for 15NOK.

Team A's players have much higher skill than Team B's, so are more likely to win on paper. So spending extra money on Team A's tickets is more likely to get you that happiness bonus. But then again... Team B is Q5 so any happiness bonus you get from them winning will be much bigger. And of course there is that randomness factor that will make the outcome uncertain.

It wouldn't take much organisation to create a national league. Or a international one... the local teams could easily loan their best players out to the national team.

And best of all, it is very flexible for different countries. Norway could set-up a Football league...

...while USA could set-up a baseball or American Football league...

... and Canada could set-up a Ice-Hockey League...

...all using the same framework. Basically any team sport you like.

*Not quite sure how to implement a 'random' factor into it. But I'm sure someone with a better knowledge of computers does.
