Join the new world

There are three serious contenders in tomorrows presidential election. CheetahCurtis, Aaron Mark Daniels, and Frixios2000.

The current term has been served by Sir Humphrey Appleby, who this newspaper backed for the July election.

The July election was very different from the August one, since there was a candidate who had to be stopped at all costs, King William the Great. This necessitated everyone backing the same candidate. This time round, there is more flexibility, since William is not on the candidate list.

Sir Humphrey Appleby has been accused, justifiably, of somewhat opaque behaviour regarding a deal with the Argentine government. This involved handing over a sum of money in return for the release of a region. This was done with little consultation with the unofficial Congress. To his credit, no government funds were used, since Sir Humphrey Appleby used his own money. Giving a large sum of money to the enemy in a war is, however, something that should only be done with parliamentary (Congress) approval.

Aaron Mark Daniels is promising a clean break from opaque behaviour, with a more transparent style of government. This would be a good development for the United Kingdom.

Both Frixios2000 and Aaron Mark Daniels have a set of sensible policies, although Frixios2000's work tax rise could have a detrimental effect to many players. Given that there are so few serious revenue streams in this game it would be a good idea to keep work taxes as low as possible.

Another thing to remember is that Frixios2000 is a former President of the Peoples Communist Party. There's a huge difference between Socialism, which is largely benign, and Communism, which is really dangerous (although, in eRepublik, only serial multis and treasury thieves are dangerous). In real life, however, Communist parties have been behind some of the worst events of the twentieth century, such as the cultural revolution in China. It would be a bad idea to have Communists in charge of the eUK.

CheetahCurtis has not published a manifesto, so it is hard to judge what kind of president he would make.
