Around the world, day 2388

Day 2,388, 13:27 Published in Finland Finland by TheJuliusCaesar
The sun is shining. That means I am to set myself laying horizontally, opening my laptop and starting to write an article while casually sipping a cold drink. Summer is good. By the way, I just noticed it has gone exactly 936 days since my eBirth. What does this mean, then? First of all, these numbers are divisible by 3. When you add 3 and 6 you get 9, that makes two of them! Oh well, this isn’t getting anywhere. Let’s just get started with the main thing.

The biggest debate and a maelstrom of differing opinions during the last week were raised by the USA's quarrelsome departure from the Sirius alliance. You can form your own opinion on the matter by reading the articles and perspectives by WildOwl, Derphoof and the Secretary General of the Sirius alliance, Iain Keers. I myself wrote a piece regarding the matter too. Regardless of the reasons for the event, it damaged seriously the image, the power and the self-determination of both counterparts. USA has now been left without an alliance, while Sirius lost its second member (other being Brazil) within a relatively short period of time. The expulsion of the US also leaves Sirius without its only source of night-time damage, effectively leaving the Polish-led alliance extremely vulnerable to especially Argentina- and Chile-led operations by both Asteria and Aurora. USA isn't safe either, far from it.

Another move raising few eyebrows was Brazil's decision to align tightly with Asteria. Former Sirius-member Brazil left the alliance after being wiped for nine long months, not saying this was the exact reason for the exit, though. Now Brazil has signed MPP's with Slovenia and Greece, both members of the Asteria alliance. Earlier Brazil made a NAP and later signed a MPP with their former conqueror, Argentina who also is a member of Asteria. Sirius looks to be heading towards deep waters as its enemies are gaining the momentum and some vital allies.

Our beloved Plato has conducted also a strategic update worth mentioning for. While earlier one had to had a continuous land route from the capital to the newly acquired colony in order to achieve the +20 % bonus for either food or weapon production, that is no longer needed. Of course one still gets the +20 % bonus in case the connection between the capital and the colony has been maintained, but if not, one still gets +10 % bonus for the production. This effectively means that the major powers no longer need to suffer from the continuous "must win" RW's on bottleneck regions in order to maintain their bonuses. For example the Polish (German) region of Saxony can no longer be used as efficiently to pressure Poland as before.

In other news, Aurora has selected a new HQ to guide their way through the darkness. They also managed to win a key battle for Macedonia (FYROM) against Greece.

Germark, UK, Belgium and the Netherlands have recently signed a North Sea Protection Pact. The pact forbids the participating countries from attacking eachother via NE laws, airstrikes or declaration of wars. Furthermore the pact promotes military cooperation among the member nations. In case one gets attacked, the others are obliged to defend the member under attack by a foreigner. In the northern hemisphere, this might have certain effects to the foreign policy of Asgard, as they now have a coordinated group of nations at their southern borders.

And now the sun sets to the west while I'm writing these last sentences. This must be some kind of symbolism. I guess that's all for today, see you again next week!
