Day 1,842, 23:49 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

So, how has the week passed in the New World? Who has made progress? Who has been dealt the scent of defeat? Find out in this week's edition of Around the World!

MAJOR WARS

The Iberian Split
Start

End

Belligerents: Portugal vs. Spain
Results: So much for a war. Portugal had managed to reach all but one of its former regions on the mainland (two if you count island Azores), but quickly felt the wrath of the founder of new alliance TWO, and soon found their lands disappearing one by one into thin air. Within days, Portugal was without lands once again, wiped by a simply superior Spanish army. All it took was the snap of a finger for Spain to lasso Portugal back into its influence. Now there is once again only one nation in Iberia. If Portugal wants to secure its independence, it'll have to bring all of their friends along for the ride.

Winner (campaign): Spain (devastating)

The Polish Unification War
Start

End

Belligerents: France, Italy vs. Poland
Results: On the one hand, France got pushed around by the Poles as expected. However, Poland was not interested in a full wipe as some might have expected. Poland proceeded with conquering province after province, occupying the full body of France and proceeding to attack Italian Sardinia (off-map) and quickly capturing the province. However, Poland decided to allow France to return to the map, releasing the three western provinces along the Pyrenees wall, but keeping PAA and Corsica to gain a path down to Sicily, also now in Polish hands. France has capitulated once again, but has stayed on the map once again.

Winner (campaign): Poland

The American-Brazilian Pacific Travels
Start

Belligerents: Taiwan (ROC), Philippines vs. USA, Brazil
Results: A political conflict sparked gunpowder between EDEN Asian power Taiwan and Terra turned CoT Brazil, and dragged the Philippines and America into the war on opposing sides as well. Brazil headed its way up through the Philippines via its Colombian region of Pacifica, since returned to the disgruntled Colombians. Meanwhile, Taiwan engaged in conflict with the Americans, fighting off an invasion of Taiwanese Hokkaido and managing to seize Hawaii before their attack was snuffed out, though Taiwan did give back Hokkaido to the Japanese, thus preventing another invasion attempt. This war is still too close to tell.

Winner (campaign): DRAW

The Chilean Counterattack
Before

After

Belligerents: Argentina vs. Chile
Results: Nothing's gone right for much of EDEN. Tack Argentina onto that list of hard-luck nations, as the Argentinians continued their streak of defeats. Chile was more than happy to leech off of CoT support to gain province after province. By the time a lull in the battle came around, Chile had already retaken all of its old provinces. Securing its other front in Australia (below) was already a solid start, but defeating Argentina where they supposedly had it under control has to hurt both national and alliance-wide pride, as well as give serious credibility to both Chile and CoT.

Winner (this week): Chile
Winner (campaign): Chile (devastating)

The Australian Independence War
Start

After

Belligerents: Australia, Argentina vs. Chile, New Zealand
Results: Chile isn't so much fighting on two fronts anymore as fighting on two continents with a single front. Luckily for the Chileans, they've been successful on both continents. Chile managed to take down Australia's remaining provinces in the region in addition to their gains in South America. Furthermore, they helped out their kiwi friends, freeing out two New Zealander regions while holding onto the southern two regions themselves to connect their nation. Meanwhile, both Australia and Argentina have completely lost any influence in the region. Just another victory for CoT.

Winner (campaign): Chile, New Zealand (devastating)

The Balkan Suppression
Before

After

The Greek Epic
Belligerents: Greece, Albania vs. Bulgaria, FYROM, Serbia
Results: Well, not much Greece can do, huh? Facing a three-front war, Greece ceded province after province, and ultimately lost all its regions in Europe to its three invaders, having to retreat to its Saudi and Egyptian colonies, though they have managed to recapture Central Greece. This may be short-lived, however, as Macedonia appears to be on the verge of capturing the region. Bulgaria has taken it upon themselves to chase Greece into Egypt, borrowing some lands from Cyprus to do so. Albania has also fallen by Macedonia's hand. The Balkans are falling more and more out of EDEN's reach.

Winner (this week): Bulgaria, FYROM, Serbia (devastating)
Winner (campaign): Bulgaria, FYROM, Serbia (devastating)

The War for Ukrainian Independence
Belligerents: Ukraine, Turkey vs. Hungary, Poland
Results: Ukraine was able to capture a region for every other that it lost, for awhile at least. But their success didn't last long, as the Poles came in to give Hungary the support it needed. Ukraine barely held their own against Hungary, but they didn't even bother fighting the vastly superior Polish army, as the ravaged remains of the Ukrainian homeland were torn to shreds by the Poles and, in the last battles, the Hungarians as well. The end of Ukraine also signaled the beginning of a defensive war for the Turks, who find themselves bordering the Poles through the formerly Ukrainian Taurida. Turkey will need a whole lot to avoid looking like its brothers Greece and Ukraine.

Winner (this week): Hungary, Poland (devastating)
Winner (campaign): Hungary, Poland (devastating)

The Battle for Scandinavia
Start

After

The Finnish March South
Belligerents: Finland vs. Estonia, Latvia
Results: Finland has to thank Sweden. With the Finns defeating the Estonians, the Latvians normally would have freed Estonia, declared war on Finland, and pushed them back. While Estonia was able to break free, due to Sweden's interference, the Latvians have not been able to do their normal routine against the Finns. As a result, Estonia may have secured Louna-Eesti, but have been unable to recapture any more land. The Finns have been able to hold onto four regions of Estonia very well, and are poised to lend Sweden a helping hand against the remnants of the former ABC. The Finns are very much in control.

Winner (this week): Finland
Winner (campaign): Finland (devastating)

The Swedish Coastal Barrage
Belligerents: Sweden vs. Latvia, Lithuania
Results: The Swedes have helped distract Latvia from Finland, but they have also benefited from the extra front. Sweden's held Latvia's gains to the puny island of Gotland, holding off major attempts to wipe the Scandinavian nation with ease. Their front with Lithuania has gone even better, at times losing Scania but ultimately keeping the southern province and all others from Lithuanian control. Although the Lithuanians did keep Swedish ally Germark from entering the fray, they've had enough problems with the Swedes alone, so it's nothing worth celebrating. Latvia and Lithuania had enough trouble battling Sweden in ABC, but this is getting more and more disastrous by the moment.

Winner (this week): Sweden
Winner (campaign): Latvia, Lithuania (minor)
