Another Day, Another Region
The loss of Texas today hit me particularly hard. True Indonesia had to spend about 1,000 gold (tanking and attacking the region 2x), but Texas had over 1,100 citizens and most of our remaining Oil companies.
Today we are going to lose Wisconsin, and Iowa. Possibly we will lose Arkansas and Maryland. This would leave us with 23-25 Regions, so we are past the half way point.
Canada is gone as Ontario fell.
As my friend Joe DeSamoe pointed out in his article we are not able to counter attack while anyone attacks us. Game mechanics allow for a country to retreat and re-attack, which means they (Indo, Portugal, Russia) will never be on the defensive (unless they run out of money). It is a terrible system and will turn many players away from such a one sided-game.
What does this mean:
Very simply time is running out. Eventually Hungary and Indonesia (with their allies) will have enough money to take us out, even if they have to wait awhile to do it. PEACE has already stated it will attack Ontario and Florida (or New Jersey) at the same time, so we are going to be put in another Texas/Ontario situation. Congress, which I am a member of, is resigned to the role of simply donating money while our President and Chiefs of Staff make all the military decisions. There is little left we can do.
While the situation seems dire there is one thing to consider. After this World War the whole landscape of eRepublik will be changed. Will PEACE pursue its tyrannical path, or will cooler heads prevail? Will their main competition gone will former allies become enemies? What about the disgruntled PEACE nations of Turkey, Russia, Serbia, Australia and Argentina?
Only time will tell.

I hope that not too many eUS citizens get frustrated and quit because they lost for once. But to be honest, losing because of a flawed game mechanic really makes one hate this game. And you can't say "it's how the game works" because a broken system is a broken system, it doesn't matter how many people know how to use it.
Also Sam Bruscamaxxxxxxx!!!
Turkey is not the part of PEACE afaik, and I'm 100% sure that Australia isn't part of PEACE either
"It is a terrible system and will turn many players away from such a one sided-game."
I agree entirely. I can't get my roommate to play eRep with me, because while frequently witnessing the mechanics of the war module as I played, he was laughing at the game and how lopsided it is, especially after seeing Indo pull their usual bullsh** retreat/reattack move. The admins should fix this, but they don't seem to care.
I would not consider quitting because "eUSA lost," but I would consider quitting because we lost not due to any fault in the tactics and spirit of our people, but because the admins refuse to acknowledge the problems in their stupid war module, and they felt "citizen ads" and the "world map" were worth implementing first. They don't deserve the amount of money people are spending on this game trying to keep our country afloat, as we lose due to their game imbalances. I don't know, I think upgrading the war module might have been a bit more important and central to the game.
I imagine we'll also get that upgrade to the war module as soon as the war is over too, just in time for any improvements *not* to help us.
Sad...
"so we are going to be put in another Texas/Ontario situation." this really make me shiver!
@ekszer
I lived in Australia for awhile, and it is definitely PEACE leaning, along with Turkey (which is a nation whom is involved in the current attack on the eUS and refuses to sign any peace agreement).
I think in the long-term, the PEACE alliance will fracture. It almost has to...Russia/Hungary/France/Indo/Portugal will get bored b/c they'll have conquered everyone else. The game is exciting right now, but when there's no war, it can be tedious, especially for non-political types. Hopefully the eUS (if we still have a couple of regions) or the remnants of it can choose a side and, in return, get part of our country back through a retreated RW. Honestly, I'm not sure if there's anything else we can do. Every region PEACE conquers means more tax revenue and a lower probability of running out of money. Losing Texas was devastating, and due to game mechanics, we don't even have a fighting chance to get it back.
Also, we will probably be put in a New Jersey/Florida situation at some point in the near future, too. We may have to move EVERYONE to one region in order to save ourselves.
yep i say new jersey as it has q5 defense and last time i checked florida had only a q4
it makes absolutely no sense, they want this game to be close to authentic, this is bulls t and it should be fixed. didnt i read about gltches in the USA-Candian war that were eventually fixed.

FIX IT NOW ADMINS!
You know what sucks about the situation is the fact that we are losing. Since we're losing, the admins think, "These guys want us to change the mechanics b/c they're getting beat up. They're a bunch of whining babies. But this goes beyond winning or losing. This is in fact about game mechanics, and favoring the attacker is not fair. Regardless of who's getting pelted or not, the mechanics should really be taken a closer look at. We're just going to have to find a way around that and beat PEACE some other way.
Lol @ whining Americans.
The system isn't "broken"; that's just how the rules are. Romania used the same tactics against Indonesia/Hungary back during World Wars I and II. How come no one complained about the system then? Is the system only "broken" when you're losing?
How pathetic. Indo/Hungary were able to adapt to the eRepublik rules and even use them to their advantage to eventually defeat Romania and their ATLANTIS peons. If America can't do the same, then you guys don't deserve a nation.
If you can't take the heat, get out of the cookie jar
Also, eAmericans always whine about the war module favoring the "attacker". And maybe you're right.. But that isn't the reason why America is losing. You are losing because you're military and political systems are disorganized and can do nothing but FAIL! Not to mention the fact that most eAmerican citizens have serious problems with following orders and your leadership has a very poor understanding of military tactics.
Does anyone remember America's attacks on France, Mexico, Russia, etc.? If the war module "favors" the attacker, why wasn't America able to win (when it was the attacker)? It just goes to further prove my point about America's failed systems.
@Civfanatic
First I’m new, but if I was around during ww1 and ww2. I would have said the same thing I am going to say right now. I don’t care what country your from you can not tell me that in any battle a retreat should be treated as a win. To tell me that it should just goes to show how Really dimwitted people really can be. Even on Wiki site for battles it says this "The Battle for (region name) ended because you decided to retreat your troops" There is no need for congress approval, the gold paid for attacking is not refunded when retreating, the effect is an instant ending of the battle and the enemy is considered victorious receiving the control of the region.” So if the Enemy is really and truly considered victorious then the mechanics of the game should truly reflect that. To say anything to the contrary is just stupid. I bet that if you asked every game developer in the world you would get a overwhelmingly response that the mechanics are screwed. Before you just say this is sour grapes I came into this game full well knowing that we were getting are asses handed to us. It has nothing to do with winning or losing but the fairness in which the game operates.
@ Christopher Eller
Retreats aren't treated as "wins". That's not what people are complaining about. People are complaining about the fact that attackers can retreat from a region and then immediately counterattack that region, providing that the attackers have at least one other open battle with the defenders to maintain their initiative.
I see nothing wrong with this tactic. There are many ways to counter this tactic, and if America doesn't know how then they should blame themselves for their stupidity, not the game mechanics.
@Civfanatic
We could counter it, but it would cost us 3 regions or more (depending on how many are being attacked). That is why it is ridiculous.
"Romania conquered 5 out of the 6 regions atacked today, including the former capital and biggest city in Hungary, Budapest. World War I was stopped because of the bugs in the war module, and until the launch of V1, as the admins stated article" a quote from the wiki pages...
<a href="http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/World_War_I" target="_blank">http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Worl[..]War_I</a>
Yes so they could stop the war and fix it, but they refuse to do so.
@Civfanatic: You obviously have no inkling about how MMO game balance works, otherwise you wouldn't make such blatantly ignorant and offensive statements as you did.
The short version is, in a PvP MMO, both sides should have an even chance to win if all in-game factors are equal. But the simple fact is, due to the way Erepublik's war system is set up, the attacking side has a enormous advantage.
The fact that a country can be blocked from attacking by just one country attacking a single one of its regions, no matter how small or outmatched that country is, is broken.
The fact that a country which is being attacked cannot go on the offensive anywhere until it is no longer on the offensive is broken.
The fact that a country which is losing a battle can retreat out of that battle and immediately restart it so long as they're engaged in another battle at the same time is broken.
I don't care that eRomania used these same broken exploits before. I don't care that my country may be led by incompetent leaders who can't properly take advantage of said exploits. The simple fact is that an exploit which allows one side to gain such an advantage breaks the game.
It needs to be fixed. Plain. And. Simple. Arguing that it's fine and that we're just whining because we're losing shows a basic lack of understanding of the reasons we're complaining.
I don't mind losing a battle or a war. It happens. I mind it when the loss is compounded by broken game mechanics, which make it impossible for us to even hope to make a comeback short of your side running out of steam. If I had been around during the time eRomania used those same exploits, I would have spoken about about it then. Because I hate game exploits which give unfair advantages to whoever grabs them first.
That's all there is to it.
