People who announce their retirement—from Uncle Sam to Harrison Richardson to Daphne Lilac—make me laugh out loud every time. They never actually quit. They always come back unless they're banned

In Sam's case, he wanted to be banned. Then, when he was un-banned by admin, he continued to play... until he was justifiably banned yet again. You can be sure the child once known as Uncle Sam is prowling around eRepublik the same way Teacher did as the aforementioned Harrison Richardson (full disclosure: HR is an adult).

I just saw Daphne's announcement, which prompted this article. Daphne is a beta giant who likes to get eMarried. And, someone once told me she is the head of her own religion. I suppose it's somewhere on the level with RL Zoroastrianism.

No, but seriously... I'm sick of beta giants (they're always beta giants) who announce their "retirement" from eRepublik. It's a joke to announce that you're quitting. It's nothing more than a cry for attention and an intense session of fishing for compliments—both of which are usually fulfilled—causing the quitter to, you guessed it... come back. Those who actually quit, like ProggyPop or Korbin King, do so without making a big farewell parade out of it.

Spare all of us the self-indulgent "farewell tour." Because, just like Cher, Streisand, and Jay-Z... when you're more than willing to make your departure known, you're more than willing to return.

With that said, I announce my retirement from eRepublik. To paraphrase Richard Nixon when he lost the 1962 California gubernatorial race and vowed to quit politics forever: "You won't have Longbaugh to kick around anymore!"
