Absolute power...

Day 1,895, 01:33 Published in United Kingdom Australia by Send love to Plato

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Something a great man once said, very poignant. The man who I have quoted from was a singer, songwriter and peace activist. Of course eRepublik is just a game but I think it is about time we laid down a few home truths down and humbly acknowledged some more.

Yesterday New Era emerged from the January congress elections in first place, it was an emphatic day for everyone at New Era. A lot of hard work, a lot of shouts and nail biting but we did it...well, this is where the cold truths come into play. New Era and PCP did it, a combined campaign that gave us the edge over our friends at UKPP which truth be told without that election alliance would have seen us in third...not first. Facts remain that UKPP are the largest party in the eUK and have the largest support, I hope they haven't seen our celebration as New Era looking to rub their noses into the dirt. That couldn't be further from the truth and we hope you understand the jubilation and high spirits that some of our members have right now. To us eRepublik history will always show that in January 2012 we achieved something very special in such a short space of time, but I will work to make sure we move forward with our feet on the ground as history shows in this game how quickly a party can fall from grace..

Which brings me to my next observation - The usually strong TUP/UKRP vote was down which was very surprising, those two long established parties you normally expect to have a good turnout. This month must be seen as a one off with regards to their turnout and we at New Era must not become complacent after one result.

Now we should be looking to secure future support from PCP for next month and acknowledge that they offer just as much to our image as we offer them via an election platform. PCP have the freedom to cosy up to whichever party offers them a platform which is why we must not publicly take their core membership for granted and work for a better future for us both. So again thank you PCP, I hope we can again work together in next months Congress elections for the good of both parties.

Now then, Lets try something different...below I am going to write something Positive about each major party in the eUK, if you are not included please do not see it as an insult. Why not break the mould and do the same in the comment box below?

TUP - A party that has achieved so much, and has so many statesmen in their ranks that you do have to applaud just how long they held on to the title of the biggest party in the eUK. The fact they established a strong and longstanding Military Unit is something you also have to admire.

ESO - Some of us can claim to promote new players and help smaller parties, but my first party was the British Tea Party and we had a very small membership. ESO allowed me to stand under their banner and directed quite a few ESO votes my way that swept me into Congress for the first time. That was a very noble and caring gesture that installed in myself a belief as to why all the top ranking parties should look to offer a helping hand to the parties outside the top five.

UKPP - A party that I have seen grow and nurture into the eUK's biggest party. They have some incredibly likeable members and are fiercely loyal and very hard working, I have no doubts their reign at the top will last for a long time to come.

UKRP - Another long standing party in the eUK, despite their recent fall out of the top five they have a core membership that you have to admire because you know they will never leave, its a true friendship over a political acquaintance with their members.

PCP - Our brothers in arms. Same can be said of PCP with regards to the bonds their members share, their plight is concerning than UKRP's because unlike UKRP they are more out of reach from the top five which is not something I believe they deserve. Friendly, approachable and always willing to give you their time but you know that, like UKRP's core membership, they will always be around fighting the good fight.

OV - I see a party of battlers here who will prove many wrong who believe that Alfagrem is the ''bee all and end all'' of One Vision. I see a bright future for some of the guys there and their rise into the top five is testament to their dedication.

And now the shameless plugs which are a copy and paste but who the hell cares eh? -

We would like to take this opportunity to remind all New Era members about our Young Players Media Fund. Details can be found HERE. To offer a brief explanation - New Era are proud to help players young and old as much as possible and we want to see you express yourselves with establishing your own newspapers and writing your own articles...about whatever you wish. Your articles could be about your experiences, how you think the country could improve, about a hobby you enjoy, something you are passionate about...anything. Your article, your newspaper, your choice.
With the economy being as fragile as it is, and funds being as tight as they are, we at New Era, would like to help by paying the costs of purchasing your newspaper. To apply please send a PM to Klurr and happy writing.

New Era are also proud to announce we have our own party section on the eRepublik forums. The New Era section will be self moderated and only viewed by members of New Era and so far we have a dozen members already approved with access, the choice is yours as always if you want to use this form of communication...but it is there and already set up and can be found by clicking THIS link. So far we have withheld using sub forums etc etc so It is all in one section, once we know that the members are using the section then we will include sub forums and look to build upon it. Baby steps.
The New Era section already contains (amongst other things) links to graphics for your articles if you wish to use them, a record of all the eUK Congress elections New Era has participated in and a thread with links to articles by all New Era members.
Again this is your choice and the party will not expect anybody to sign up unless they fully wanted to, if you want access please send me a PM in game or on the forums - Dr Hugh Jardon

To join the revolution of the eUK you can join New Era by clicking this link and get involved. You can also get in touch with us via visiting our brand new website here. Of course our New Era IRC channel can be found HERE where you can drop by for a chat with other members, we hope to see you there.

We also are happy to provide you with a New Era avatar border if you so wish, the vast majority of our members have the New Era border on their avatar and if you send me a PM with either a link to an image or a brief description of what you want in your avatar then I will be more than happy to make you one. We also provide a pink New Era version for our female members if that is what you prefer.

And finally, If you are a new player in the eUK you are entitled to free food from the Government in the eUK's NHS scheme which is designed to make your early stages in the game run as smooth as possible. The food comes from donations from members of the public so please do not be afraid to apply as at the beginning of everyone's eRepublik life we all needed a little help. You can apply for the NHS here by filling out this very simple form.
