A Voice for the Common Man in Congress
Joe DaSmoe
Hello America DaSmoe Here,
I wanted to take the time to restate some of my opinions about this game and current affairs. As I've been told I cannot win in West Virginia. Im a member of the Nationalist party and I am actively recruiting for our party. I work, train and fight everyday just like the average joe and am looking to give politics a shot. If I cant win in West Virginia, so be it but I gotta get this off my chest.
1. Just because I am new doesn't mean my points or questions are irrelevant. I believe the older members should reach out to the new guys more often, give pointers and advice. I believe this would be an effective way to get the lower level players more interested. I know when I first discovered this game I thought it was a pretty amazing concept....a completely virtual society. After a while though I started to lose interest, eventually, after pretty much figuring it out on my own, my interest returned. The USA has over 9000 citizens and I bet most of them are barely active, if at all.
This is a shame and I think congress should be actively communicating with new guys (I refuse to refer to new guys like myself as noobs, what a dumbass nickname). If Im elected congress I will routinely answer any PMs I get from new guys and help if I can. BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE.
2. Communication in this game needs improvement. the forums are hard to decipher sometimes and its a pain to have to log in and out of them. I believe a homepage chat area for friends, and political parties are the solution. In congress I would routinely bring this up and hopefully get something added to the experience of eRepublik. This would also spur the interest of the newcomer more.
3.War is an essential part of this world. If ran correctly and transparently(unlike our current debacle with the French), War can benefit our economy, which in turn means more money to push a drive for a better Hospital and a defense system for our small but patriotic, frontiersman's state, or any state in our union for that matter. It also spurs company growth and creation. Personally I aspire to own an affordable weapons company. Without fighting it is pretty difficult to maintain wellness at high levels. Yea you can trudge through without fighting but it sucks. Shortly after starting(about 1 month in I think) I was fired because of my low wellness level. Fighting is the only effective way to raise your wellness, especially when you are at lower levels and cant afford housing or quality food.
That being said, We need to pick our fights wisely. Our current administration wasted a ton of gold in France, only to turn around and lose the territory we won back to the French. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!. Frankly is just a stupid move, gold can be hard to come by in this game.
4. The US has the most members of any nation in this computer.lol Can anyone explain to me why we are not working harder to aid our citizens advancement? We need to have open war games going on in order to bolster our economy and raise our citizens levels. We could discuss this with our neighbors. Our citizen average is 10. The rest of the world is 12. WE SHOULD TRY TO FIX THIS WE ARE THE STRONGEST. This is America man.
5. I also have issues with way weapons and gifting programs are ran. Personally, I hardly ever get either, even though Ive taken the time to fill out the forms. You never get a straight answer either. Every once in awhile someone will write an article about this but most of them are just BS and nothing ever changes. If and when I eventually get elected, I will take Pms from th e citizens I represent and try to get answers to problems, whether it be through research or osmosis lol.
It seems to me that most of the current members of our government are just absentee landlords, kept in power just by being a member of the old clique. This makes me sick especially since it pretty much echoes RL. Come on you guys aren't we smarter than that?
Finally,(man my fingers hurt lol) I will add a voice-able opinion about the way things are viewed by people like us, just a guy who works his butt off at work(construction.ow my back, lol) in RL, then plays this game for fun a couple hours a night after the woman and kids are asleep.
Thanks for Your time,
Joe DaSmoe WV 08

PERTAMAX!!!! Just kidding. 🙂
These are some good points Joe. I think that communication is always a great way to improve most anything. The eUSA Forums (erepublikusa.com/forums) are a great way to increase involvement with eRep. It was suggested to me when I first started the game and it really was my jumping off point in getting to know people and to know how government worked in the game.
What the game really needs are level headed people who will speak their minds but will keep a level of civility in the Congressional threads and the other threads discussing game mechanics, citizen wellness, and other aspects of eRep that make the game fun to play. Sure, war is fun, but that's not all the game is about. I like the idea of building a company, seeing it grow, working with a political party, sharing ideas, helping each other out. I know that I'm always asking my employees if they need anything and I've encouraged my constitutents (the few active players in WV that we have) to let me know if they need anything so that I can hook them up with the folks who can best help them.
The saddest thing to me is how many people you can see who start the thing and play for a week and then quit. There are so many layers to this game with the military, work, government, politics, business, and the various discussion forums that go with these things. Every citizen should be encouraged to explore these things and we should certainly make them aware of them so that we don't lose them so quickly.
Anyway, good article. Voted!
And if you don't win the election then I want you to help me out with seeing that more of these things get done next month. If you do win the election I hope that you'll let me help you with these things. They are good ideas.
Scrabman may the best man win and either way I will work to better the game.
You say the same thing I basically say.
I would love to work with you in Congress, you are what this country needs, a man with brain's your points are just like mine.

Nice article Joe.
you didnt say anything about food prices will lowed
jonaska
gifting programs could help wellness and lower demand for Q2 and higher food.
"I also have issues with way weapons and gifting programs are ran."
Well, maybe when/if you are elected into Congress you'll help expand and fund the Quartermaster program. And if you don't get into Congress, perhaps you'll volunteer your time as a distributor instead of just bitching and moaning when your orders aren't filled within 3 minutes of submitting them.
@ Chank
i will. such negative attitudes never help. Im new and those issues are important especially for new guys. They need to be addressed, thats all Im not bitching or moaning I know its difficult to run such programs, being that there is no way of mass gifting and it all has to be done individually. I just want to open the discussion back up, before untold masses of new citizens die or lose interest and quit.
AMERICA UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no problem with how the OQMG will be run. I did have a problem with how it was run before, and that's why I went for the job. My goal is to have orders filled within 3 or 4 hours, but that's a lofty goal.
R u in the military when you fill out those forms?
Good platform Joe. Keep up the good work.
I'm not old but I'm not new to the game but I agree that everyone should deserve a fair shot at any and all political positions.
voted...!
huh?
you told me you trade gift and food here?
I need gift/food right now, I'm going to be dead!
