A Return to Glory

A Return to Glory
another nauseating title brought to you by your President

I’ve been staring at an empty google docs sheet for about an hour now. I promised articles, but it turns out there isn’t anything to write about. The most interesting thing that happened was Canada pretending to be a big kid. And they left me with blue balls.

So I’m going to give you a quick rundown of what we’ve got going on. And then talk about something more substantial.

Stuff that happened, or is happening
-Sweden invaded UK. They’re a new member of Pacifica, and the alliance is already helping them become more powerful. Awesome.
-We reset some determination in North Korea. Super boring, but necessary. And will help prevent drains in the future, if that something exciting actually happens.
-Basketball. Illiguy, greeling and Evry were all tied for first in the USA Pool, last time I checked.
-We saved a bunch of money on wars by not invading anyone important.
-We raised the USAF budget by a lot. Like, a lot.

About that USAF MU…

They get messed with all the time. It’s done by well intentioned politicos like myself, but all it ends up being in meddling. We feel like we have an obligation to the country. To make sure that the outrageous tax income is being spent as wisely as possible.

So naturally, we mess around with USAF. It’s there. It doesn’t usually give much pushback when you try and make a change. It makes politicians feel like they accomplished something, when all they really did was hurt the MU a little more.

A cut may not kill you. But a thousand of them, will bleed you dry.

We talk about how there are very few high profile Americans in USAF. We talk about how even with a budget, USAF is unable to out hit War Inc and EZC. We talk about their perceived inefficiencies.

But we never seem to talk about what is likely the bigger issue of politicians always interfering with the MU.

The last time I was President (I know I talk about that a lot, but I want you to better understand my perspective), the USAF was a collection of 5 different MUs. Flight Training, Air Force, Rogue Squadron, Ultra Marines and the Special Forces.
Of those 5, two were top tier in the country; UM and SF. They were incredibly well run, and received minimal interference, if they received any at all. Flight Training and Air Force were both pretty solid. They were geared more around new players and low divisions. They had some interference, but usually only when problems popped up. Then there was Rogue Squadron. Oh my goodness. They were plagued with problems. But also plagued with Presidents and Secretaries of Defense that thought they would be the ones to fix those problems.

It’s a very chicken and the egg scenario. Does the MU have problems because the PotUS can’t stop messing with things? Or does the PotUS have to mess with things because there are always problems?

I believe that while problems do crop up within MUs, they can most likely be resolved internally. Not always, but generally speaking. You don’t see the PotUS getting involved in whatever problems EZC or War Inc may be having. And they would tell you that they are stronger for it (and they’re right).

I want to see that for USAF too. I would like to see the President no longer be the ingame commander of USAF. Allow them to be a bit more autonomous. Not completely private, but give them a little bit more freedom to run things like War Inc and EZC do.

I don’t want to get rid of the dictatorship. Just allow the USAF CO to have fuller control over his MU. There are other MUs that could host the dictatorship.

Maybe this isn’t the silver bullet for whatever plagues USAF, if it is sick at all. But I do think that it could go a long way in helping to better establish that unit as a top tier MU.
