A message to Russia - considerations on the Norway/Russia situation [EN]

We've seen a lot of PEACE and ATLANTIS propaganda in the last weeks regarding the situation in Norway and possible solutions for the russian problem. Using real arguments or just the "we're good, you're bad" approach, those articles and the negociations failed to lead to a real resolution of the existing problem, mostly because of the way the russian-iranian/PEACE coalition understood to manage the situation.
First thing I want to discuss is the "we'll f|_|ck up Norway if you don't give us our land back", which was - from the start - the wrong approach. I was writing in a comment at the original article which had a, let's say, amusing offer for Norway, that eRepublik is designed in a way that doesn't allow you to keep the power on an unlimited period of time. Basically, my comment stated that Russia should settle down with the threats and start real negociations if they want to obtain something. The reasoning was simple : they have the majority, but they don't have the power to impeach the president; without a president, all they can do is steal the money and cause the norwegians to move to other countries for ~1 month.
And it seems I was right. The presidential elections demonstrated once again the power to act of the ATLANTIS countries, especially Romania. To the best of my knowledge, around 150-200 romanians moved to Norway in order to defend the rightful president of the country; and it wasn't even a big effort, as we had over 1200 people voting in the country. Right next to them, the other ATLANTIS allies and norwegians, leading to a total of over 420 votes for the Norwegian president.
On the other side, a combined effort of the PEACE countries which included articles promoted in the local press, free moving tickets, and so on, managed to draw around 100 people (+ the russians). That's how much, dear Russians, PEACE cares about Russia. You had ONE CHANCE, and a good one too, to get some of your lands back, and PEACE did almost nothing to help you. You'll probably think this is still more propaganda, and it partially is
. But think it over - Indonesia had a difference of over 300 votes between the two candidates; in Iran, the difference was around 100 votes; in Brazil, again, around 100. If part of those votes went to you in Norway, now you would have a Russian president. You don't, and you know why ? Because when it comes to articles and "Free Russia" comments, everybody's around to write and vote on your side. When it comes to actually doing something, you're almost all alone.
What can you do now ? Well, maybe now, more than ever, it's time to sit down, leave aside all the threats, and negociate some FAIR terms while you still have something to negociate upon. In around two weeks, the same people (maybe more) will come to Norway and you will also lose the majority in the Congres. We did a mistake once, we won't do it again. Norway will belong to the norwegians once again, the people will be back in their country and the economy will slowly get back to normal. You will be, at that point, in the same situation as before January 25th - without a country. Yes, you can go on conquering some small, new country, but this is how you want to continue your existence in eRepublik ? Yes, you have some money and some gold that you've gained, but the real purpose of your occupation - getting teritories - was not fulfilled (not to mention that you didn't get that much gold either, as over 5000 gold was transfered by the norwegians before the elections).
To continue on that, getting the taxes up was probably the worse thing you could do. A threat to do harm stops being a threat the moment you actually do the harm - that's why hostage takers don't shoot all the hostages from the first minute ; not to mention the economical side, where you could've gained some nice gold leaving the taxes at 10-15% (now you're getting 99% out of ...well, almost nothing).
Last, you lost a part of the public sympathy you gained after our takeover in Russia. If you could, until now, to just point at us and say "they're the bad guys", now we can point back and say "they're the bad guys too". That, indeed, doesn't make us "the good guys", but it puts you pretty much on the same position.
So, dear Russians, continuing the occupation in Norway and trying to impose your offer is simply wrong, due to all the points from above. With each day that passes, you're closer and closer to losing the small grip on the situation that you presently have. Change that attitude now, meaning in the next 1-2 days, and show interest in some real negociations, or continue like this and in a few days, everybody's going to be more willing to wait for another week than give you something back.
And for God's sake, stop bragging about the takeover as if it was the greatest thing that ever happened in e-Republik. It was great in the first week, you had all the cards in your hand, you tried to bluf, you failed; now it's turning, with each day that passes, into a defeat, and nobody will remember it in 3 months.
Good luck, and hopefully you'll make the right choice for you and for Norway.

Considering that the vast majority of Russians aren't even communist in erepublik, I still have plenty of sympathy for them. Romania has already taken over countries governments on countless occasions, and they have no respect for national integrity.

The FRP, which is leading the eRussian negotiations in eNorway, is NOT Communist. The vast majority of eRussian citizens are NOT Communist. The Communist Party-Soviet Union lost Congress and President elections just before the eRomanian invasion.
There is a fundamental difference between the eRomanian political takeover of eRussia and the eRussian takeover of eNorway. The eRomanian takeover was an imperialist action involving the invasion of an independent nation by another.
The eRussian takeover is solely aimed at achieving liberation. As far as I know, the FRP has not made any demand to take another nation's sovereign territory. This is a significant eRussian moral advantage. Of course, Iexpect imperialist eRomania to deny this fact.
Why PEACE didn't help out that much?
1. Because PEACE doesn't like takeovers.
2. Because PEACE had to defend other countries from takeovers.
Oh, and Russia still deserves a lot more sympathy than the country that backstabbed them.
I agree that the FRP handled the negotiations badly, and I understand that eNorway would be angry about "terrorist" actions. But eNorway and eRomania must also understand that eRussians are angry about the occupation of our country.

Why you think that reprisals have concerned only your family?
I'm sorry for your family's suffering, but Russia was forced into communism by a few as well and several million Russians paid with their lives as well. I was pointing out that not all Russians or Romanians for that matter can be categorized as many people so glibly do.

But, Romania allied w/ Germany and invaded Russia. Many atrocities were committed by Romanian and German forces. Russia extracted revenge after Germany was forced into submission. Many innocents were hurt by the Russian reprisals. There are no saints in war.

@ubermutant - Yes, Romania (like u know I think) ally with Germany because was the only way to regain Basarabia (romanian territory) which Ribbentrop-Mollotov pact give it to Russia. And u know also that in 23 august 1944 we broke the alliance (funny - helped by the russian army who didn't even need to fight in Romania) and that result in the minimize the war with OVER ONE YEAR. Without that, the ally never dreams to manage to keep the foothold in Normandy. Was a lot of promises from the ally for us to convince to doing that. But never finalized. Only promises. PS: Tell me ONE atrocity committed by Romanian Army. And do not mention jewish please. They was taken by SS not by romanian forces. And we managed to help thousands to escape.

@ Bogdan: I didn't mean that Romanians and Russians comment literally. It was a joke aimed at those who think that all people of nation can fit into one category. (I.E. all Romanians are imperialist pigs, all Russians are commie pigs, all Americans are lazy pigs, etc, etc, ad nauseum)
I don't deny that the US screwed over Eastern Europe after WWII.
As for atrocities, what about the Iasi Pogrom? Even if it was SS it was still Romanian. And I do realize that Romania didn't have much choice of allies in WWII and I know that Russia had a history of screwing over Romania.

I'd really like to see some evidence for that "sold China to commies" statement. The only thing I can think of is when the Kuomintang(sp?) and commies declared a cease-fire to expel the occupying Japanese forces.
Finally something not completely ****stained by propaganda. Still, we eRussians do know that the eNorwegian president will not negotiate since he is fed by the eRomanian belief that eRussia should be treated as a state due to something that happened 70 years ago IRL.
And now remnants of Kuomitang are on Taiwan and China was "blessed" a communist reign. Pro-western forces were left alone like in Europe, maybe not with any evidence but USA also didn't do anything to support Kuomitang which directly lead to next great "victory" in Vietnam.
I thought this was supposed to be a game? What point is a game except to win? For some winning equals gaining wealth, for others it might be political power --- why are those who view eRepublik as a war game and view winning as defeating other countries excluded as a legitimate viewpoint?
