Tempers flare after mayoral elections

Tempers in eIreland rose significantly in the wake of the mayoral election, after the successful Galway candidate for Ireland First [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-91742.html]switched parties[/a] immediately after being elected.

Gunnar H won the Galway poll despite tying in votes with the then Fianna Fail candidate Vyse. This was because Gunnar H was a member of the bigger party, which tips the balance under eRepublik rules.

Defending his move, Gunnar H said that he was switching parties in support of patton and intended to do so before the election but put the move off so he could stand for election. At no point did Gunnar announce his intention to switch party after the vote and neither patton nor Vyse seem to have been aware of his plans.

Many complained that the lack of a pre-election announcement meant that the electorate were misled by Gunnar H, as they thought they were voting for a candidate that supported Ireland First's policies when the opposite was true. In an attempt to defend Gunnar, patton published a [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-93032.html]statement[/a] saying Gunnar only decided to switch party after the election - however this contradicted what Gunnar himself had already said.

From this contentious issue the debate then moved to [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-94001.html]questions surrounding patton[/a] himself and grants he received from hattrick when he was Irish President. Corruption accusations were levelled at patton which he has tried to defend himself against.

In light of the intense scrutiny placed upon him, patton decided to [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/article-95281.html]hand control[/a] of the national bank to another individual - he also asked his party for [a url=http://www.erepublik.com/press_release-7451.html]their support[/a] and suggested he would resign if they were unwilling to give it.

It is unlikely that the Fianna Fail party will fail to support patton, however, as the party largely comprises of some of patton's strongest allies.
