Editorial | Dangers and Implications of Citizenship

PHILIPPINE PASSPORT
The new citizenship module that admin plans to introduce poses new dangers to us. But, if we cooperate with and help each other, we can avoid these dangers and use the citizenship feature to our advantage.
According to admin's official press release, "if you are let's say an Italian and want to become an American, you will have to move to the USA and request American citizenship. Your request will then be added to a list, along with those requests of others, which will then be at the disposal of Congress. There's a formula which limits the maximum number of granted citizenships to 10 % of country's population. "
(Source: The citizenship is on its way)
Based from this, when citizenship becomes available, each Filipino congressman will be able to grant approximately one citizenship per month considering our current population. But our population continues to grow, and the amount of citizenships our congressmen may grant every month may very well increase dramatically over the next few weeks.
Potential Danger
DANGER!
Imagine: what if a handful of hostile players get elected into Congress and start granting Filipino citizenship to their friends. They could conceivably build up their voter base in preparation for a complete takeover of the following month's Congress.
What We Need
Of course, political takeovers (PTOs) are not as easy to pull off as one might think. And, if we support each other and join forces, we can avoid these kinds of things from happening again.
Currently, to effectively prevent PTOs and protect the country, I believe we need three things:
1. Strong party leaders
2. Loyal congressmen
3. A larger active population
Strong Party Leaders
STRONG LEADER?
I believe that political parties are at the very core of eRepublik's politics module. Without parties, no congressmen may be elected. No one can become country president without their party's official support. Without strong, loyal, capable, popular and principled party presidents, our indigenous parties can be easily stolen by hostile players wishing to take over a country's Congress.
I challenge our current party presidents, including myself, and aspiring party leaders to rise to the occasion.
We need strong and popular party leaders who can unite party members under a common goal and withstand takeovers from within.
We need capable party leaders who can organize his party well and get his candidates voted into Congress.
We need principled party leaders who can set partisan politics aside and band with other party presidents in times of nationwide trouble.
Loyal Congressmen
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Collectively, Congress is one of the most powerful forces in eRepublik. Many of us were witnesses to the havoc wreaked by the evil Secta del Guru Varnish when they successfully took over our Congress some months ago and nearly tanked our economy with malicious legislation.
As voters, it is our responsibility to ensure the victory of Congress candidates who have nothing but desire to better the plight of our country. We must vote people who are known for their experience and have proved their allegiance to the country, as well as newcomers who exhibit enthusiasm, potential and willingness to help the nation.
As congressmen, it our responsibility to protect our people and honor their trust in us by being active, questioning the validity of proposals before voting on them, joining the National Forums to participate in debate and discussion, and other such Congress-like things.
A Larger Active Population
PEOPLE POWER
I believe that the most important asset a country can possess is its population.
I support all drives and programs currently undertaken or being planned by the government and private individuals to increase our active population and attract players, both old and new, to come to the Philippines.
Newly-created government departments like the Department of Education and the Department of Fun aim to increase player retention rates by empowering the population through keeping them informed and educated, and providing them with miscellaneous and entertaining activities beyond the monotonous 2-click nature of eRepublik.
Private endeavors such as the Alay Kay Juan Foundation and the Baby Boom Project aim to attract new players to the game by "word-of-mouth" recruiting from external community sites and discussion forums.
In the days ahead, this will be my political mantra: Strong party leaders. Loyal congressmen. A larger active population. I hope you make it yours, too.

Good article here.
nice article sir.
Yes, I totally agree! A strong leader, with cooperative members. Luckily we have ours 😉
Great article. Citizenship allows for a stronger defense to combat PTOs but if the guard is asleep at the gate than the criminals will scurry their way into the place. Keep active tabs on who is and is not let in. It can ultimately mean the survival or downfall of small countries like ours, Philippines and Thailand.
I strongly agree with this article. Voting for the right leader is one key to making this country a great nation.
Vote Awul for congressman(Mindanao). 🙂
Great article Ariel. You certainly have a great understanding of the game. This could be our most crucial elections yet!
ok... you're putting too much "complimentary photos" on your article... haha...
nice article, though... really... 🙂
Well-written article. It struck the patriotic fervor of the eFilipinos. Mabuhay Ariel!

This is a good article, and it was naturally voted and subbed.
However I have some remarks on this bit:
"Imagine: what if a handful of hostile players get elected into Congress and start granting Filipino citizenship to their friends. They could conceivably build up their voter base in preparation for a complete takeover of the following month's Congress."
I've thought this through, and talked to several people about it, and apparently this is not a very realistic scenario.
Those 1-3-5 congress people would have to work for 5-6-8 months to let their friends into the country one by one, and those friends would not be able to carry out their tasks elsewhere. On the one hand this would require quite a lot of work and dedication from these people for a really extended period of time, so I think it's safe to assume that they will all go native by the end, contributing a lot to the welfare of the target country. Therefore even if they get elected in the end - well, probably they deserve it, and noone would have any qualms about it.
On the other hand, if a hostile TO is planned, it is rarely done like this even now, since it requires lots of coordination and planning. It's much easier to just register an army of fakes in the target country for the citizenship just in time for them to be able to vote, and then sweep the country clean. 😒
That is the worst danger, and there is very little one can do against this with or without citizenship.
The rest of the article is spot on and well written, totally agree with it.
