Department of Education: Two Ways of Mass PMing v1.0

Day 435, 17:39 Published in USA USA by Department of Citizen Affairs

We at the DoE know how some players send out ridiculous amounts of messages per day on a regular basis using a technique called Mass PMing. I can assure you that both the members of the AAP and the citizens of New Jersey know that I am a master at this particular feature of eRepublik. (It's me, Ian John Locke IV Party President of the AAP and Second Term Congressman of New Jersey.)

So as I said in the title of this article there are two ways (that I know of/use) to "Mass PM" large groups of people. There's an easy way, and there's a hard way.

I'll go over the hard way first, since it is longer to explain, and after all patience is a virtue (as we are all learning with the new eRepublik load times 😛 )

[The Hard Way]

So what are you looking to Mass PM? Well I will go over States and Political Parties as I cannot think of a third group of people you would want to Mass PM (unless you hold the particular title of President of the United States, POTUS).

Mass PMing a State
Go to your top panel, move your mouse over Info and select Rankings.

Now move down to where you see the mostly blue globe and click on it and select the USA from the bottom of the third column.

To find your state click on the box that says "All regions" next to the USA flag.

The states are listed alphabetically from Alabama starting the first column, to Wyoming at the bottom of the third column.

(Note: These are rankings based upon Experience Points. )

If you were going to Mass PM the State of New Jersey you would see the following:
Ian John Locke IV
W.S Hong
Alex Righte
etc.

Now that you have a list of the citizens in your state, middle click on each of their names to open the link to their profile in the same window but different tabs.

Once you have a reasonable amount of tabs open, compose your message and copy it. Go through to each tab and click "Send message" so that each profile is ready to send a message to.

Copy and paste the message into each message box and (assuming you use Firefox) you type the first few letters of your message subject and select it from the list of saved entries.

And send the message.

Now clearly this is boring, time consuming and well, annoying as heck. But there is another way!

[The Easy Way]

Someone, and I seriously cannot find out who, wrote a python script that allows you to compile a list of names in a .txt file. (One name per line) You then edit the script by right clicking on it and typing "EDIT WITH IDLE". You then enter your log-in information and password and the title of the message as well as the message you wish to send and the name of the .txt file (i.e. MembersList.txt).

You then save the script and (if you're using Windows) double click the script and watch it as it opens up a DOS Prompt and shows you who it just sent to. When the list is finished, the script will terminate and the DOS Prompt will disappear.

If you're running the script in a Linux system (my personal experience is Slackware (12.1) ) you edit the script with some Editor (Kate, VI, pico, etc.) and save it. Then go to a terminal and cd to where you have both the script and .txt file. Then type "python massmailer.py" and it will go showing you the same output in the terminal as it would have in the DOS Prompt.

To receive a version of this mass mailer, please contact me personally with your email. I will send you a copy of the script.

[My Next Article...]

The next article I plan to write for the eUS DoE will be a Guide on How to Write Articles and Messages Using Proper English.

I get so many private messages and see so many newspaper articles written by people who either do not know proper English or refuse to use it and it is has finally reached the point where I want to go out and hunt all of them down. Yes this is a game, but using proper English helps.
