A bit about war, a bit about policy, and a bit about congressional elections

Day 395, 02:06 Published in USA USA by The Libertarian Bulletin

Hello, Libertarians. Well, I was planning to write a nice little manifesto, just outlining our political views to kick off this org and my party presidency, but in the wake of the USWP scandal I think that I should talk about that and the war.

For those of you living under a rock on Mars, President Dover and General Shafer have both written articles attacking the USWP's recent anti-war stance. Shafer posted several quotes from the USWP's forum in his article; the most interesting one was from USWP's new party president, Rocco Baldelli who mentioned that he sent copies of his article to the French president, and other foreign politicians(Roby Petric being one of them, I assume).

I've gotten a lot of pm's asking me what the Libertarian Party's stance is on this war. Honestly, I don't think that we should have an official stance on this, or any war. I don't like parties getting involved in the military at all. I encourage everyone to form their opinion on it, and take into consideration why we invaded, and it's outcome. I just think that parties having official stances on anything involving the military can lead to some sketchy situations. I think that a political party should be just a simple tag on your profile that will tell people at a glance what your general political ideals are. If they want to know more, for instance, if you're running for congress in their state, then they can ask.

In eRepublik, parties mainly have economic stances- that's the easy part. The hard part is where they lie socially. I try to stress to everyone that asks me about our party that we're individualists. That's what I see as our strongest platform. I think that the fact that we're not just a group of people, but more like a collection of individuals speaks mountains about us. To adhere to that principle, I refuse to use the party forum that was made this summer. There's still a link to it under our name in the party forums in the US forum, but you won't see me there. You can find me on the US forum or our IRC channel. I believe that a party forum breeds a certain connection with the party, and disconnect from the country as a whole. Party forums tend to lead to patriotism towards your party, and a feeling of wanting to push your party to win every election. I think that kind of mindset is dangerous for a democratic nation. It leads to more propaganda than true stances, and leaves everyone in the middle scratching their heads, wondering what the hubbub is about. We need to provide smart and regular press releases for members and non-members alike to keep them caught up with what the Libertarian Party is about. That is what this org was designed for.

Congressional Elections
Moving on, we have elections in a few days. It's on Christmas Day actually, which kind of sucks, but try to log on and vote anyways. I want you all to feel free to register to run if you think that you're capable and able to devote at least an hour a day on the US forums reading about and discussing proposals. You should write an article or make a forum topic, outlining your strengths and general beliefs and link it as your presentation. Sign up to run as soon as you can.

Also, I'll be sending everyone who's signed up a short questionnaire(four or five questions) as a competency test by the 21st. By the 23rd, I'll post all the responses in another article here. I haven't decided yet, but I might also rank you. Probably not, though. The questions will be current events and hypotheticals. If you remember back when we used the forums, I did the same thing back then; its teh same thing. The point of this is to give the voters an idea of your competency level, and to weed out Sunter Jr's. If you don't know who Martin Sunter was, he was an idiot who gained political power. We don't want that. Please don't run for office if you don't know what's going on.

Thanks for reading,
