“This is just a game.”

I’ve been hearing this for months. It was actually something, at one point, some of us had to stop and think about every once in a while. We got so involved in what we were doing that our thoughts were here 24/7, no kidding. I still remember the day I wrote my first (and only, if I’m not wrong) article being really angry. So frustrated to see that everybody complained so easily but no one actually had anything helpful to say. Knowing this was just a game didn’t solve that.

I’m fully aware of this being a game. Actually, that was never the issue. Of course it is a game. Why do we then say it as if we don’t understand it? It has become the trolls excuse to make fun of the rest. Someone has decided that having fun without being stupid isn’t playing. That if you can’t take a joke you should leave.

With this I just want to make clear the fact that I play too. Erepublik is my playground too. But, opposite to some others, I play respecting everyone’s view of this. Understand it or not, I have fun taking this seriously when I think I have to and laughing when I it’s time for it.

I would never step on someone else’s “work” and justify it by saying: “don’t take this too seriously, it’s just a game”. It is. But Respect is first rule in every game. Respect for the rules and respect for the playmates. RESPECT.

I basically just wanted to say “don’t let anyone tell you how to play. This is a game and we are all part of it. No one decides how you are supposed to have fun. Don’t let them convince you of anything different.”

“Esto es solo un juego.”

He estado escuchando eso durante meses. La verdad es que, en su momento, algunos de nosotros teníamos que pararnos a recordarlo de vez en cuando. Nos involucramos tanto en lo que hacíamos que nuestros pensamientos estaban aquí 24 horas al día, fuera coñas. Aun recuerdo el primer (y único, si no me equivoco) articulo que escribí estando realmente enfadada. Estaba tan frustrada de ver que la gente se quejaba con tanta facilidad sin tener realmente nada constructivo que aportar. Saber que esto era “solo un juego” no solventaba eso.

Soy perfectamente consciente de que esto es un juego. La verdad es que eso no fue nunca la cuestión. Por supuesto que es un juego. Entonces… ¿Por qué lo decimos como si no lo supiéramos ya? Se ha convertido en la excusa de los trolls para reírse del resto. Alguien ha decidido que divertirse sin ser entupido no es jugar. Que si no vas a aguantar una broma no tienes nada que hacer aquí.

Con esto solo quiero dejar claro que yo juego también. Erepublik es mi lugar de juego también. Pero, a diferencia de algunos, yo juego respetando los diferentes puntos de vista que hay sobre esto. Se comprenda o no, yo me divierto siendo seria cuando lo creo necesario y riéndome cuando toca.

Nunca pisaría el “trabajo” de nadie justificándolo con “no te lo tomes tan en serio, esto es solo un juego”. Es un juego. Pero el Respeto es la regla numero uno en todo juego. Respeto a las reglas y respeto a los compañeros de juego. RESPETO.

Básicamente solo quiero decir: “No dejes que nadie te diga como jugar. Esto es un juego y todos somos parte de el. Nadie puede decidir por ti como divertirte. No dejes que nadie te diga algo diferente.”
