The Sausage Wars

Germany does the unpredictable, invades Poland

Warsaw, Poland- War has broken out yet again in Europe this time with Germany and Poland. The declaration of war came as a bit of surprise to most but really there is a whole lot of under the table dealing going on here. As you may know Germany has just come off a defeat in their war with Sweden but an agreement was reached upon there that would allow the Germans to remain a governing nation in exchange for most of their territory and for the most part become a satellite nation of Sweden.

When I first saw this war my original thought was that because of Germany's new relations with the Scandinavian alliance I thought that this would just be a ploy by the Swedes to somehow take over more land either by having it gained by satellite Germany or by softening up the polish people for a later war. Germany was split up into two different parts after the war giving them an advantage in that in order for another nation to completely take over them that nation would have to either conquer Northern Italy and Austria or go through Sweden to reach the other side. Imagine Sweden as a wall and in order for someone to take over the whole region they would have to either get around that wall or go through it.

Now it appears that their has been a lack of backing for this war from the Scandinavian alliance so I was wrong in assuming that this was a method of them expanding their satellite nation but I am not sold that it was an independent action by Germany. When you look at the situation either way Sweden benefits. The longer the war lasts the more beat up the defenders of Poland get and if Poland wins (which is what is likely to happen) they will take the German territories acting as a buffer between Poland and Sweden thus opening up a gate for the swedes to take Poland and the territories that they gave back to Germany. If Poland were to win Sweden could send in their fresh armies to swiftly take over a beat up Poland and then meet up with Norway at the old Poland-Russian border.

It is possible that Sweden did not have any plans in this war and that Germany independently declared war on Poland. The reason I have a hard time believing that happened was because Germany would be consciously bringing a knife to a gun fight. Poland may have a much weaker military then Germany but Poland's MPPs with the U.S. and the Czech republic are keeping them in the fight. The U.S. for example is doing most of the fighting for Poland with both the U.S. and Germany having 75 victories. Poland has about half that and is using it to tip the balance in their favor.

When the war shifts back over to Germany however this may become a stalemate. Despite the alliances Poland has they can not take a large lead in their defending territories and without the defensive bonus the battles would likely be close with the edge going to the defender. In conclusion even if this was an independent action by Germany it was one of the biggest military blunders in Erepublik and Sweden will be the benificiary.
