Updates and Special Announcement RE: Crown Jewels

Happy Easter everyone, happy secular holiday Citizen-Scientists. I hope your bonnets are full of eggs and your blooms dazzling and moist.

I've got a few updates, rambles and a special announcement to make, so let's begin!

Updates!

The eager feed-peepers amongst you will have seen all sorts of Government and Congressional updates on the National Feed. A handy rundown of some of the feed activity and what it means for you follows:

Firstly and most quickly, shouts about free items - which you can get here. They're eRep's spring break gifts ahead of the incoming event.

Secondly and least quickly the Congress activity - there's increased use of the National Feed for Congress Discussions and votes which is quite nice as it gives you insight into what is going on, and most importantly makes it a bit more accessible to our newer players and shows them that ePolitics is alive and well. Some recent debates have included :

- Discussions and votes initiated by UKRP and TRS around tweaking of the guidelines Congress uses when granting people citizenship (one of the two main guidelines that Congresspeople approve at the start of each term - the discussion has looked at allowing more time for decision making).

- A TUP/WRP proposal to ban congress discussions from the National Feed (there's some fringe groupd who don't like the public nature of the feed, albeit currently optional to use it in order to encourage participation).

- A goats proposal to have Congress choose a Prime Minister (this did not pass but was interesting to discuss, on this occasion most felt there wasn't a clear rationale for Congress involvement as the role is currently selected by the Country President).

- A WRP proposal to replace the current Speaker/run a Speaker election (the increase in transparency following my election as Speaker hasn't been welcomed by all in Congress and so there will be an election, which can be triggered by any Congressperson).

All in all it is an interesting time to feed-peep so if you want to see what people have to say or if you are new and interested in how ePolitik works then take a look. President election!

Before I make a special announcement I thought I'd pay some lip service to the Country President election that took place on the 5th! I was very pleased to see two decent candidates provide manifestos and run an actual election. This is something we haven't really seen in months or even years. It has been a central pillar of TRS thought to ensure that the eUK takes its political module seriously, and creates competition. We were all players sick of the stale state of politics, who came together from across the political spectrum (and continue to do so!) in order to be the change we wanted to see. And* what a change we have seen.

There are more active Congressmen, more proposals (see above) more discussion, and fewer people taking your vote for granted**. Seeing a serious CP election was very satisfying and seeing the amount of people voting for AMD and who continue to show support for the Spamican mission was great. A big thanks to those who backed TRS, and a standard-size thanks to everyone who voted. I hope you too also enjoy having a choice on election day. TRS continues to face a lot of resistance from some presidents of other established parties but more congresspeople are taking a keener interest in politics and there are many more people voicing support than not (including on election days!). Of course the best support is to become a TRS member - so please consider joining!

Big News!

Lastly I am pleased to announce the launch of a new game!, with a generous prize - thanks to some support from the social fund passed by Congress in one of it's first debates of the month.

Years ago I was asked to be King of the eUK. Regardless of that institution no longer (formally) existing I marked it by establishing a few charity schemes to encourage newer players to get involved. Whatever gave you that crazy idea?

You only have to look at the percentage of citizens that vote to see it's a tiny minority in love with the sound of their own voices while labouring under the delusion that epolitics has some sort of purpose.

For years every party was a beige rubber stamping brigade. People don't need to vote when that's all on offer. Too long like that and you have to wonder what anyone would be logging in for. Changing that is the first step to giving more people more reasons to vote, and a Congress that actually acts like a Congress is a solid second step.

No one expects it to change quickly. Years of choosing between gruel or gruel is gonna put people off dinnertime all together. But with shiny spam on offer maybe a few will come back to the table.
