[Kelstein's Baby Steps] Case Study: Roachford

Day 2,374, 12:02 Published in Republic of Moldova Romania by Kelstein

Today I reach an important milestone for me in this game, this is going to be my 50th article written in my newspaper. I never dreamed that I would write anywhere publicly (I know this is not really public but still!!) and also I know I don’t have a natural talent to write but I’m trying!

So recently I started a series of Case Studies where I present how different players in the game developed (with positive and mistakes) hoping that it will help the youngsters of today to develop for the e-world of tomorrow; today I’m coming in front of you, my audience, with the first Kelstein’s Baby Steps: Case Studies in english and I have the honour to present Roachford he works for NHS eUK and he is a relative new player so let’s see what he has to say.

Pentru cititorii romani pe care ii deranjeaza ca scriu in limba engleza …scuze, dar se va mai intampla si pe viitor

For how long have you been playing erepublik?

- About 6 months now

Is this your first account?

-No, this is my second account. I had a previous account that I created a few years ago, but stopped playing with it soon after I created it. Fast forward to about 7-8 months ago, I remembered this game and thought it’d be nice to start playing again. It bothered me that my first account was a few years old but had achieved nothing (it didn’t even have enough strength to get a single Super Soldier medal), so instead of continuing from where I left off, I submitted a ticket to the Game Support asking them to delete my account. It took them about 2 months to do so, but when it was done, I created this account and have been playing with it ever since.

Have you ever invested real money in erepublik?

Nope!

What do you consider helped you the most when you started?

When I started playing, a few players contacted me and gave me some tips and a link to a beginners guide. That helped me get an idea of what my first steps should be in the game. Later, I joined an active MU where I was able to ask questions and get informative answers.

Tell me please how did you chose to develop, step-by-step:

fighting strategy at the beginning

When I began playing, I fought a lot in order to unlock the strength rewards you get for Prestige Points in weekly challenges. I believed those strength points will help me progress faster in the combat field, although most people usually encourage young players to avoid much fighting in order to stay in lower Divisions and help their country with tanking.

how do you earn your money/gold

When I started, my main source of income was a job I found on the job market. I used to spend almost all of the salary on food, so I got gold mostly by earning Super Soldier medals. As I progressed, I would save up enough gold to buy WRM factories. Eventually I got enough factories for them to become my main source of income instead of employment. Now I earn enough money to be able to buy gold from the Monetary Market every now and then, although Super Soldier medals remain a steady source of gold. Additionally, I earned a relatively nice amount of gold by fighting resistance wars and earning Freedom Fighter medals, but it’s getting harder to earn them each time you earn one, so their importance is diminishing.

what company do you have at the moment and why did you choose to develop this way

Currently I have 2 Food Factories, one is Q3 and the other is Q1. I also have 2 Grain Farms, which I think I received for completing the beginner missions (either that or they were there from the very start). In addition, I also have 10 Aluminum Mines.
I chose to get the Aluminum Mines as they were the best source of income when comparing their cost in gold, and I chose to upgrade the food Factory and buy another one because, quite frankly, I was bored of just making WRMs.

In what order did you built your training grounds? and in what stage are they at the moment? and why did you choose this order?

Regarding training grounds, I focused on the free training grounds first, upgrading them to Q4 in a few upgrade purchases. Once that was done, I built a few more factories before I started to collect enough gold to upgrade the second training grounds to level Q4 in one purchase. It’s worth to mention that I waited for the training ground discount to be offered before purchasing all the upgrades. I chose to focus on free training grounds first as it did not charge me anything for training, making it the most profitable training ground. The Climbing Center charges the least amount of gold when compared to Shooting Range and Special Forces Center, so I chose to focus on it second. Currently I have no plans to upgrade Shooting Range and Special Forces Center anytime soon as their cost for training outweighs the income from Super Soldier medals, even with training contracts. Instead I plan to focus on expanding my factories until I can afford the cost of training the remaining two training grounds would require without being too much of a hassle for my wallet.

are you making gold from player that you have brought in game?

Nope, I haven’t invited any players so far.

how much did help to be member of the MU that you started in?

I started in a military unit called Liberty UK. However, at the time it was rather inactive, so I didn’t stay there for too long. Once I left, I joined the Free British Irregulars. I’d say being a member there was rather helpful, as fellow Irregulars helped me by answering my questions about the game and offering advice when I asked for it (not to mention the company making the game more interesting).

What advice do you have for new players?

I’d advise to join an active, well established MU: it’s easy to ask questions on the MU feed and the MU’s experienced members are probably the best source to get answers to your questions if you don’t have the time (or are just too lazy) to surf through eRepublic forums and player guides.

Are you involved in politics? if yes - why if no..why?

I am a member of UK Reform Party, but I wouldn’t say I actively participate in politics: I just lack interest and time for that at the moment.

Anything else that you think I missed and you want to mention in this article?

Not right now, but I’ll probably think of something after the interview is over. 😛

If you have questions for Roachford please leave them in comments below,

Also I would like to thank Roachford for accepting my invitation, and also to Niemand for recommending him for this special edition.

If you have any suggestions of players that you want to see part of the case studies please let me know! I can do them in english or romanian.
