[British Empire Party] The Spoils of War...

Day 2,156, 14:48 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Adastros

People of the eUK,

Okay, so the war with Ireland hasn't exactly begun in a blaze of glory for the UK. That, to be fair, was to be expected. At the very least, we knew that we'd have a week or so of grinding down Ireland's ridiculously large defence shield.

As well as that problem, it seems that eIreland have played the start of the war very well, quickly managing to RW back two regions before the MPP'd battles even began, and credit must be given where it's due- to the Irish leadership.

Honour in Battle

Wait, what? I just praised the leadership of an enemy country? Yes, I did. Just because we are at war, doesn't need we have to be nasty to the our fellow players across the water. Because remember, its a game.

There's no point in holding grudges or worrying about what X or Y country will think of us invading them in this game or the consequences, because fundamentally most things in this game are done because it's fun, or for the banter.

We can simply have a war, and see where it takes us. If Ireland wins this war, and liberates all their regions, then good for them. If we win this war and wipe Ireland, then good for us. The losing country (whoever it is)shouldn't get butthurt over this war, they should just be like "We'll get you next time, you rascals!" and then carry on.

I would even go as far as hoping that in the future, the eUK and eIreland could even work together as friends, to do something awesome together. Stranger things have happened, I mean who expected us to be close allies with Argentina barely 3 months after they AS'd us?

War, what is it good for?

Essentially, it livens this game up. Sitting around fighting for our Allies is all well and good for a while, but becomes rather dull after a while. Most citizens have no clue of the relevance of the battle in the eWorld, and simply drift through the war module.

Having the UK fight wars where 99% of UK citizens understand the significance of a battle makes them far more engaged in the battle they are fighting. For example, I would say I'm a fairly average player when it comes to awareness about foreign events, and when I'm fighting in a MPP battle that happens to be the MoD top priority battle, I don't really pay attention to how the battle is going, with the exception of Australia battles, I have no idea why.

Anyway, when the UK is directly involved in a battle, I suddenly find myself checking the battle every ten minutes to see if the bar has moved at all, and whether we are going to win or lose. It keeps the UK populace engaged and aware of the war they are fighting and most importantly provides a reason for new players to keep coming back.

When I first joined the game in January of 2010, the only reason I kept playing the game for the month that I did was because of the fact that London was under seige by Poland and Spain (how times have changed), and it was really bloody interesting.

Summary

Okay yeah, this war has not started brilliantly. But is that really the end of the world? Let's just see what happens...

One thing is for sure though... the eUK just got a LOT more interesting, which was the whole idea in the first place.
