Sweet Drinker and the eIreland Of The Day After Tomorrow!

Day 2,023, 13:29 Published in Ireland Ireland by The Irish William Wallace

Firstly I'd like to introduce MikeBane as my Minister of Public Relations. Mike will be breaking up my eye-bleeder walls of text and generally making CP updates less soul destroying. Mike enjoys writing articles, editing pics etc, while I do not. If an asset is available, I'll avail of it 🙂 Ofc if expedience is critical on an update, a dreary Sweet article will forego this system.

Seanan will be running the MoD as per usual. Smart, reliable, loyal, perpetual, what more could you asked for?

Seanan and I have been speaking about improving our military supply.
Sweet-"Hey mate, could the MoD use more weapons?"
Seanan-"Yes..lots"
Sweet-"Ok, I'll make it happen. lemme know if there's anything else"
We have a working history, which we look forward to reinstating 🙂

Appleman will continue as Govenor. He's been doing great work with the assets at his disposal. We've discussed making more assets available for him to dispose, and we're both happy with the arrangement.

Coleman will continue to work in the Education Ministry, releasing educational articles, steering NC's in the right direction etc. It is likely he will be expanding his responsibilities this term, but that is not yet confirmed.

I've an old-style view of the MoC: that it is independent of the government (indeed I've been severely chastised for trying to make it otherwise in the past!) That was the original tradition of this social project, and I believe that should continue.

Brian Boru will head the MoFA. This may surprize people as Brian and I have obvious differences of opinion. However Brian is very experienced and knowledgeable internationally.
In Foreign Affairs the old adage applies more than anywhere else: "It's not what you know, it's who you know." Brian knows the players who swing national stances. Which is very often not the people you see on the national administration page.

Raven Anarcho will manage the Ambassador Program. Raven is hard working and thoughtful. He's made the ambassador program interesting for the communty, which is an accomplishment in itself. Anarcho is one to watch 🙂

Columbia will be representing us at the 3rd international eRepublik meeting
She has been authorized to mis-translate our rivals statements into threats against the admins, and seduce/assassinate anyone at her discretion to forward our agenda 🙂

Other stuff:

*My aim is to rebuild the foundation our previous strength stood upon. Obviously finances are a focus and strength for me.

*A supply system reminiscent of what we ran a year ago will be reinstated. If you'd like to be part of the supply team contact Seanan, it's a big operation.

*National unity: I'm approx 0.5% of our population, the other 99.5% will have to commit to unity aswell as myself. There aren't many people here innocent of causing the rifts we have in the community, I've my share of responsibility in this situation like everyone else.
I'm cautiously hopeful that getting some of our mechanical problems back in order may encourage everyone to resolve/abandon the social problems we suffer.

*Baby Boom: I ran statistics on populations internationally awhile back. The good news is that based on RL populations eIreland has the highest player/population ratio of any English speaking nation in the world.
The bad news is that based on BB's of other anglophone nations, adjusted for RL population, a babyboom in Ireland would likely result in only 40 long-term players joining our community.
It seems apparent that eIreland actually had our BB at one point several years ago. It's just that based on our population a BB could happen here without our noticing.

The key to eIrish expansion lies in immigration, which can outstrip likely BB results monthly, and reliably, if we become a nation attractive for others to join. Not that I wouldn't welcome some Babyboomers! But my long-term strategy is focused on a much more reliable Seniors boom.

The whole "no regions thing": tbh having or lacking regions has no real effect on players like myself. Old, well established people are basically immune all that. However I understand that the situation does have an impact on others. And basically as a nation... it sucks having no regions.

The economic impact on our citizens can be negated quite easily. We can quickly rebuild old infrastructure allowing our population to have a better quality of eLife than our neighbor. That in itself will be somewhat demoralizing to a nation intending to suppress us.
This will also have an immediate, and if we're smart, permanent effect on our military output. Immune to our situation on the map. That too is a discouraging fact for rivals.

The whole "UK situation": I spent more than a year of my game life with the singular objective of fighting the UK before we finally came to a long-term peace. I spent a few hours talking to the current UK CP on IRC the other night, and Ayame Croc is pretty cool actually. I can tell you right now we're not dealing now with the wankers we had to back in the day.
The UK of old attempted to pto us, was hellbent on occupying us, attempted to exterminate us permanently (it was believed possible to permanently remove a nation at one point). The UK of today is merely pissed at us, and tbf, eIreland gave them cause.
It's unlikely that Ireland&UK are ever going to be on the same side, our friends just don't get along, but they can be sound, and we can live along side each other cordially if we are reasonable.

Most of the UK knows who/what I am, and they rest will soon enough. I don't really want to spend another year of my life fighting them, they won't want to either at the end of the day.

However it is entirely possible that the UK administration will wish to continue hostilities for the foreseeable future.
Britain has almost 4x our population,
Britain has 12 MPP's... we have 1,
Briatin is a member of the strongest alliance in the game... we are not a member of any alliance.
None of these are facts which would encourage Britain not to occupy us 😛
Add to that, from what I've heard, we've been pretty obstinate when dealing with them.

Should the UK resolve to concentrate on occupying us there are two options available to us:
A) Becoming really annoying by focusing on heavy RW implimentation.

Pros:
It's really goddamn fun! (seriously wasn't the Cork RW awesome)
It ties UK's resources up (needing to enlist allies to suppress a nation our size doesn't look great for a TWO nation)
Moar TP medals

Cons:
While we can RW regions back onto the map, we can't oppose an MPP battle against 13 TWO nations, UK can afford to allow Irish regons to reappear and then remove them at their convenience via MPP battles (most likely just in time to prevent Irish Congress)
This is an extremely insular and selfish policy. It may seem bad for us here, but many of our friends have it much worse out there atm. We can't devote ourselves to helping friends if we are obsessed with our own regions.

😎 Ignore them

Pros:
Internationally we will be Awesome
We can participate in geo-politically significant battles effecting the outcome global conflicts
We will become unpredictable. UK will never know when to expect us suddenly swinging our resources against them.
If the situation with our friends abroad improves, we stand a better chance of regaining our regions permanently

Cons:
It's not as fun ignoring your own regions
less TP medals
UK will also be free to aid their allies more than if we apply pressure directly to them.

If this is what it comes down to for us, we'll have to decide as a community which direction to go. My preference is option B. However as I stated above, the immediate lack of regions may more of an imperative for you than it is for myself.

Alliances: No alliance was ever perfect. Given that, we must have realistic expectation on the ones that exist currently. I don't feel compelled to rush into joining an alliance. But there are some nations out there that have been super-awesome to us in the past. And things aren't great for a lot of them atm. I do feel compelled to rush out and be super-awesome for them!
That is the essence of my foreign policy at this juncture in time: Go Out And Be Awesome To Our Friends (GOABATOF... acronym open to negotiation).

Long-term: I'd like to return to the practice in large scale government investments in our citizens as we had when I was MoF. Along with the powerful supply/distribution system of that time which made us fierce.
However it's important that people understand that while I managed to achieve some things which previously seemed impossible, they only SEEMED impossible. It actually took months of careful patient work to make those things happen.
While I can immediately begin to rebuild some of those assets we used to have, I am not a unicorn! A mythical beast is not going to move into government and magically make everything better overnight.

I can get the ball rolling, with the diligence of many people we can eventually become a nation of reckoning again.

Also, I've been told there will be The Word. If I receive confirmation as to what Word that is I will keep you apprised.

That's about all for now. I look forward to seeing this god-awful monster in Bane-O-Vision!
