Welcome to Interviews with a Troll!

Formerly known as the Swiss Cheese, this media will now focus on interviewing our most prominent and most well known leaders, as well as our least known but eager players. Third up to be interviewed, the famous Paul Proteus!

Hey Paul Proteus! When and why did you start playing this game?
I started playing this game back January 2010, after being introduced to the game by Penguin4512. At first I thought the game looked pretty bad, then I discovered a hidden layer if you will of the game and I started playing. Turned out there was a third deeper layer that pretty much resembled the first out layer.

What would you say is your favorite module in this game? (media, politics, economy, etc.)
Since joining I've found that I pretty much ignored the military and economic (RIP) aspects of the game (though less so recently), the Media and Political modules have always appealed to me the most. Running for office and trying to do bigger and better things was the main driving force behind my activity for my first year playing, and I doubt anyone reads my paper who enjoys it half as much as I do. Still the best "module" really isn't part of the game, but the IRC chatrooms and Forums which make up the Metagame are far and wide the best part.

What is your connection to this Swiss people?
As most of you know I'm not Swiss in real life, and why I was even born in eSwitzerland is another mystery you can blame on Penguin. Still, the time I spent working with the Swiss community in my time there and the love I was shown when I first started playing will never be forgotten. No matter how long I've been away I'll always be eSwiss at heart :3

What would you say your greatest accomplishment as president was?
Oh, as President? That was a long time ago and most of the work I did was towards infrastructure or has long been forgotten to the sands of time. Still, I'll always be proud of the Swiss Military that Custer and I were able to kickstart during my second term, and the constitution (which is only getting discussed and passed now) was essentially written by me during that term. The most frustrating part of being eSwiss CP is that after all your hard work, no matter how successful, it's all futile if your successors screw up, which they tend to do. The fact that any of the infrastructure I put into place still has any effect on Switzerland is something I am very proud of.

Who was your favorite Swiss president and why?
This is a complicated question, and to be fair I haven't been active during every Swiss CP so this by no means is an accurate judge of our best CPs. That being said, Eleriel's final term will always be my favorite. It was such an optimistic time, we had just taken the Presidency back from the Shaolins and we had one of the most loaded and active Cabinets of all time that was practically a "Who's Who" of Swiss Legends. The next month Clifford won and all our work was all for naught, and we would see much more difficult times before things improved, but that spirit of optimism and success makes it my favorite term to remember. Being said we have had some excellent CP's recently and so far Lotus is off to a great start. I look forward to being forced to revise the answer in the future

In your opinion, what is the most important thing for new Swiss citizens to know?
The most important things for new eSwiss Citizens to know? That they too are an essential part of our community and that all of us want them to join us and succeed. Still, something I wouldn't have minded knowing as a beginner, the status quo is how it is for a reason, take some time to work with your head down and get to understand how things work so when you do come forward with new ideas they are more educated and likely to succeed.

In a nutshell, how do you get involved with the government?
In my experience the key to getting into Government work in this game is persistance. Always be doing something, even if you didn't get the job you wanted, keep your name on everyone's tongue, publish articles and be active on IRC. And most importantly: ask for them, your chances of receiving a government job in this game are infinitely higher if you express interest in them. Now if you're trying to do this while trapped in a nutshell, you're on your own.

What is the origin of your name?
Paul Proteus is a character in Kurt Vonneguts' Player Piano. It's a great book by a great author, read it sometime.

What is your association with the infamous TrogdortheTroll100?
Trogdor, What is this question? :3

Is there any final thing you would like to say to the readers and the Swiss people?

Stay Sexy~

And that concludes my interview with Paul Proteus. There you have it folks. An extremely detailed and long interview. Although not a swiss citizen, Paul is still very connected here. As Rican said, “he did a lot to organize our country and even though he has moves to eUS, he remains involved in Swiss politics and I know he is Swiss in his heart.” He is quite a funny guy, and if you ever go on #eSwitzerland on IRC, Paul Proteus will be there. Because he never leaves. Ever.
P.S.: If you liked the interview, vote and sub!

Yours truly,
~Trogdor
