[EN | DE] Overview of Alliance Strength
Mr. Enya
German version below - Deutsche Version weiter unten
Hi Folks,
200 days ago, I published an overview about the strength of our ingame alliances, and today, I hope to get your interest for my update:
The measurement methods are of course different: In the first version I compared the cumulated XP total of each country - this method is no longer possible today. For todays version, I had to rely on a different set of numbers, which was derived from the activity (i.e. voters in the presidential elections, as of May 2012) and the average level of eCitizens, as of a few days ago. I will be the first to admit that this calculation won't hold up to statistical scrutinity and doesn't represent the exact military strength. However, I think it's the closest approximation possible, and the outcome is believable.
The numbers were calculated by Bush Da Bunny in this great article. The method really has its benefits in comparison to the World Census data that I am gathering myself: The eCountry population is of course not a good indicator for military strength, because babybooming countries are overvalued. For example, Spain is today #1 in population - while Poland doesn't even appear in the first 5 positions. According to this data, Poland is #1 in military potential, while Spain isn't even in the top ten.
Well, here is my new graphic in more detail:
I grouped the countries according to ingame alliances, not according to official statements: In the upper section, all countries that are only affiliated with ONE countries, are grouped together. In the row below the ONE balls, I lined up all countries which have either no ingame alliances or which are allied with both ONE and TEDEN - most notably eRussia and eIran. The lower section then displays all countries that are only affiliated with members of TERRA and EDEN.
And here is a direct comparison of the two alliance systems - ONE seems to have an advantage here:
As always, thanks for reading,

Mr. Enya

I disagree that Russia and Iran should be categorized in the "neutral" group. The overwhelming majority of Russian and Iranian MPPs are with TEDEN countries except for one or two. If you say Russia belongs in the neutral category on the basis that it has a ONE MPP, then you should place Bulgaria there as well to be consistent. Bulgaria does have a MPP with Russia and ties with TEDEN countries like Ireland.
Vote 😁
@Phoenix: I doublechecked; There is (at this moment) no MPP between Ireland and Bulgaria. Russia is the only TEDEN country with a ONE MPP, and Iran is the only ONE country with three (!!!) TEDEN MPPs. Doing it different makes it all VERY complicated, which it isn't from my point of view.
@Ban Danna: This is no polandball comic. This is a diagram. For visual comparability, each country needs to have the same shape. I _could_ make it with every ball looking the same, and everyone would HATE it.
@Enyavar: My point is that it's just more practical to place Russia with TEDEN despite the Bulgarian MPP. Also, Iran's MPP list has entirely changed; Iran renounced its ONE membership and has signed MPPs with many TEDEN countires. Regardless of categories, I appreciate the time you spent on this analysis.
Voted.
Great article!
