[EN] Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: Habemus Chairman

Day 1,507, 16:34 Published in Germany Germany by Mr. Enya

Dear international readers,

this edition is completely in English, since the German readers can simply click on the links below and read the whole topic in german. 😃

But all readers that have only recently come to eGermany, read this article and be warned, for we have the most absurd bureaucracy you might not even be able to dream up in a nightmare. Especially our newly arrived Danes should shiver with horror what mess they got themselves into. 😉

43 eGerman citizen were elected into Congress this month, on 26th of December 2011. Besides the ingame Congress matters that are rather dull, eGermanies Congress extends to the eGerman Forum board, which is even more dull. It's the platform where eGermanies people is discussing the brilliant ingame moves of the Congress. As a matter of fact, we have imposed some rules of procedure which we abbreviate GO (german: Geschäftsordnung).
One of the congressmen is supposed to be chairman in the eGerman Forum, and he is to be the keeper of the rules. Since this office isn't introduced ingame, the chairmans power is only in the eGerman Forum, where he moderates the topics. Gross violations of the GO result in exclusion of congress members from the Congress Forum - this happened for example to Seelenwinter and NixSide a few days ago.

Ok, boring stuff. This month however, there was quite some excitement...

It started with the nomination for congress chairman - usually, not many people are interested in the office, sometimes there was only one candidate. This month however, tmv_23 nominated 39 of the 43 congressmen, and the rest was nominated before or thereafter, too. After nomination, people interested in the office are to accept their nomination, and 9 people ran for chairman, as of December 27th: Seelenwinter, mattwoll, Stryk99, Enya, ilphen, Freiheitskaempfer, Slayer10, tmv23 and PecattiSyn.

The congress elected Enya (that's myself) as chairman with a majority of 9 votes in the first run. My predecessor Ilphen ended on second place and 6 votes, Freiheitskaempfer and Slayer10 both got 4 votes, on December 27th/28th. But: The election was dubbed invalid because Slayer10 had be excluded from the voting process - After this violation of the GO he was warned by chairman Ilphen, then he pulled this stunt and was banned. After reviewing the GO, Ilphen had to admit that Slayer should have had the right of voting, and the voting process had to be done again (even when one vote wouldn't change anything).

The congress elected me as chairman with a majority of 10 votes in the second run. Ilphen got 6 votes again, on the third and fourth place we had Stryk99 and PecattiSyn with 3 votes each. The election took place on December 29th. This time, Ilphen neglected to enable the revoting option, which is required for the voting - if people change their mind about one of the nominees, they should be enabled to give the vote to someone else. For this reason, the second run was invalid, too.

The congress elected me as chairman with a majority of 15 votes in the third run. Ilphen got 11 votes, on the third and fourth place we had Stryl99 and PecattiSyn with 1 vote each. The election took place on December 30th/31st. In this election, Seelenwinter was still congress member, even though he should have been excluded then. Also, a member of government was still in the congress group although he had not been reelected. This matter needed to be resolved, and the election needed to be done again. But just that moment, Ilphen resigned from his office as congressman. As some people would argue that the office of chairman can only be held by a congress member, people argued that Ilphen also resigned from his office as chairman. According to GO, this would mean, that the election polls could no longer be started by ANY congress member, but ONLY by the person who took the second or the third place in the last chairman election, due to the exact wording of the GO. These other persons were Friedrich Wilhelm II and Kalif Batan, both no longer a congress member. Freiheitskaempfer took the stance that, since the GO "forbid" this case, we should not elect any chairman at all and abolish the GO completely. This absurd proposition was seconded by some others (Jagdinstinkt, BadMax, tmv23, Stryk99, ...) In the same time, other congressmen claimed the voice of reason and argued that Ilphen could very well be chairman and not congress member, and that we could finally elect a chairman: These men were PecattiSyn, Farlion, me, Tiuri, bernhardms, GoaMaster, ...)

Anyhow, the congress elected me as chairman with a majority of 11 votes in the fourth run. Seelenwinter and Ilphen dropped as candidates, and second-runner was Stryk99 with 3 votes, Freiheitskaempfer was third with 2 votes. Obviously, many people saw the constant voting as unnecessary. This election took place on January 1st. However, PecattiSyn, who started the election, forgot again to enable revoting, which rendered the election as invalid. At this point however, I got confirmation of several people who are just tired of voting and the endless discussions about validity of elections.

Still, the congress elected me as chairman with a majority of 8 votes in the fifth run. Stryk99 was second-runner with 2 votes this time. This (so far) last poll was started by Farlion and took place almost simultanously with the fourth run on January 1st. Still, the GO could be interpreted that both both forth and fifth election weren't legal, depending on whether you would accept Ilphen still as chairman or not. The last blow against this election was the issue of Seelenwinter, who was still not banned from the Congress group and thus was able to vote in the poll.

The next step was then a change in the GO: The Congress took its time (one or two days) to fix the problems in the GO that were interfering with our wishes to get a bloody chairman. After discussion on how to change the GO, we spent another two days on voting the changes: They were 20 in favor, 1 against, and 1 abstention - and then, finally, we could start to think about electing the chairman again.

So. Finally, the congress elected me as chairman with a majority of 11 votes in the sixth run. Freiheitskaempfer was second-runner with 3 votes, Stryk and PecattiSyn both had 2 votes. This last poll ended today on January 6th. This time, no obtrusion happened, and our kindergarden has finally elected its chieftain. Isn't life wonderful?

Yes, it is! 🙂

What's left to say? Why, I accept my election and will do the unrewarding, boring stuff that I am allowed to do as eGerman Congress Chairman!

(If I didn't accept the election now, people might get angry with me... 😉)
