The Elections Aftermath

Day 1,071, 10:33 Published in New Zealand USA by Fionia

Well, there's a whole lot to say about these elections. There's a list of people a mile long to thank (see Kiwi Kontrol for an article about that), but there's also a lot to discuss about the results themselves, and that's what this article is about.

Wow. Quite honestly, the results made me speechless. I went to bed at 3:30 AM, half an hour after reset last night. At that point, the result was 23 Serbians/15 Provisional Gov't/2 unknowns. I didn't have high hopes for the admins turning that result around. I got back to my computer 8 hours later, an😛

19 Serbians/19 Provisional Government/2 unknowns

We have right now a perfect balance. Neither side that was fighting it out yesterday has the majority. What does this mean? Either both sides will start trying to pull the unknowns to them, or there will be cooperation between the two sides, or there will be a complete gridlock.

How I felt after these elections

This was one of the most intense elections I've ever been a part of. Now let's take a look at things. 297 votes were cast for Serbian candidates, and 243 for Provisional Gov't. When the results were finalized, as I mentioned above, we were dead even.

Think of how useful those 540 people could be if we are all cooperating.

Now is the time for both sides to put aside our assumptions about each other. We have both shown each other that we are not just going to walk away because we're accused of being hostile. Both sides accused each other of wanting to wreck the country. You know what will wreck the country just as much as an outright PTO? A stalemate. Time to reach out and work with our supposed enemies, because we have all said that we have the same goal: a strong New Zealand.

One final note: those 243 votes I mentioned for the Provisional Gov't candidates? At least 233 of them were New Zealanders who were already here and intend to stay. 10 at most were sent by other governments, mainly the eUS and the eUK. New Zealanders, we were on our own out here, and we have proven that we can stand alone. Despite the close results and the challenge we faced, this country's future is looking bright, as long as we cooperate with each other.
