Dioism in eRepublik today

Today I would like to talk about the eReligion Dioism, and its effect on the world in which we live. First of all, I’d like to say I don’t expect everyone (or most people) reading to be Dioists. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting to understand what others are talking about when they say they are followers of Dio Brando. Sometimes I write articles about specific countries, and the same principle applies- you don’t have to be from that country to find news about it interesting. So if you’re not a Dioist, please bear with me!

Dioism is a world religion which is based around Dio Brando, who was one of the first citizens to join the new world, and is one of the oldest still alive today. Like many early players in beta, Dio came from an internet based community- in this case the videogames boards of the imageboard site 4chan. He arrived at the same time as hundreds of other /v/irgins, who promptly took over the empty country Pakistan. Unlike many other communities, the /v/ community were gamers, and used to working as a team. For whatever reason, /v/akistan ended up evolving into a giant socialist theocracy. This set it apart from other communities like Sweden, Spain and the USA which at the time had large, forum-based memberships.

“You have forsaken me. You have forsaken the sand. You have forgotten your roots and you have done unto to our people, because of this you will be the only people that will suffer this curse. For as long as you will live, you will wear large hats and eat paella. You will lisp and suffer from unemployment. I have spoken!” - Dio speaks to the Spaniards.

Dioism evolved out of two things. Firstly, worship of Dio Brando as the God-Emperor, guide and father of Pakistan. Secondly, the principles Pakistan used when running its huge (by the standards of the times) country. How these two driving forces intertwined and formed Dioism is something for eHistorians to wrangle over- but the fact remains that the concepts of brotherhood, socialism, national unity, international co-operation and so on that Dioism spawned are what draws so many young players to follow Dio today.

“Peace is not the absence of conflict; it's the absence of inner conflict.”

So what do Dioists believe? Well like most religions they have a genesis story. Dioists believe that before the world was created all was sand, moving without purpose. Eventually, some of the sand became aware of itself, and from that Dio was born. Dio discovered he could manipulate and use the sand around him. Taking the finest sand, he made the Pakistani peoples. Then with more sand, he made Pakistan and then all the rest of the world. Dioists believe that some of the sand was corrupt, and from that corrupt sand the Spaniards and other capitalists were born.

The eternal enemy of Dioists are the Swedes. Born out of the rivalry between the /v/akistanis and the Flashback Sweden members, this enmity became part of Dioist doctrine. Swedes were described as children of snow- the enemy of Pakistanis and the opposite of sand. A popular adjective for them is pig-disgusting, which has become a long running joke in eRepublik. The enmity with Sweden and their allies was one of the major factors in causing the international divide which still persists today, in the form of the eternal war between EDEN and Phoenix. Although Pakistan is not a member of either, many of its former members rose high in other Phoenix countries. Dioists however are divided, and many Dioists now live in the USA and in EDEN countries.

”He who plants thorns must never expect to gather roses”- Dioist proverb

One of the most important tenets of Dioism concerns war. Dioists are not a warlike people, but they don’t oppose it when it is necessary. They understand that war is sometimes necessary for defence, or to extend the peace of Dio to neighbours. Dioists are commanded by Dio never to fight amongst themselves. This is the principle of peace. So no Dioist country should fight another, and no Dioist should fight another on the battlefield. Three things bind every Pakistani soldier, every son of Dio- Faith, Courage and Honour. Dioists must always follow Dio, whatever the cost. This is Faith. They must face their enemies with no fear and with joy in their hearts. This is courage. They must fight with righteousness and have good on their side. This is Honour. The Dioist soldier is a fearsome sight on the battlefield. Unfettered by normal concerns, he marches with bravery and honour. The light of Dio shines through his eyes and his wrath is terrible. This is Dioist teaching on war.

”ZA WARUDO”-Dio Brando

"Pakistan, let us fight for the reunification. Let us fight for ZA WARUDO, let us fight for peace, let us fight for freedom of speech, let us fight for everyone. Pride, Power and Pakistan my friends... Pakistan..."-Dio Brando

Pride

All Dioists should have pride. Pride is the journey towards moral perfection first embarked upon by Falcon, the first Pakistani. Pride is all about being self-critical and improving upon your mistakes. About righting any wrongs you may have done to others. Dioists believe that Pride is the best way to overcome any pig disgusting traits in your character. However it must be tempered with wisdom, lest your pride become too great and become arrogance or greed.

Power
Power is the ability to influence others. Power is valued by Dioists because it represents their abilities as individuals to shape the environment around them. Whether it is building a vast socialist economy or fighting Swedes, Dioists believe that Power is an important part of their lives. Whereas Pride and Peace are inward looking, seeking self-improvement, Power is extrovert, seeking to improve the world Dioists live in.

Pakistan
Pakistan was, and is, the mother country of Dioists. Its sands were blessed by Dio, and are still the purest sands in all the new world. Dioists everywhere support Pakistan throughout their lives. Whether this involves making a pilgrimage to the Punjab region, donating wages to support Pakistan or simply shouting PRIDE POWER PAKISTAN at every opportunity, all contributions to the Dioist cause are welcome. Pakistan is a holy land, and it is the duty of all Dioists to ensure its freedom.

”Muda Da”-Dio Brando

Conclusion

I have tried to sum up the key beliefs of Dioism in this article. If you want more information, please check out the Dioism page of the wiki, which contains a lot of information about the faith. You can also contact AgentChieftain who is the Supreme Priest of Dioism. For any Dioists on IRC, you can contact Dioists in #ePakistan, where someone will point you towards their private rooms.

Dioism has shaped the world like no other force. Many Presidents and congress people are Dioists, and each month their number increases. Dioism brings to the world a sense of meaning and community. In a very real sense Dio did make the new world- he forged the communities, friendships and hatreds which make the game so interesting. His economic methods are still admired and debated by economists today, as perhaps the only example of pure communism eRepublik has ever seen. The unity of the Stardust Crusaders (/v/) has never been rivalled in any other country.

Whether you love them or hate them, Dioists have changed the New World.

Best wishes,
